Okay, so I bought a pratically new (never used) iOmega Parallel ZIP100 drive from this lady who's having a garage sale while I'm on vacation. I get home, and my computer decided then, of all times, to have it's secondary IDE channel (dual fifo) [WTF is fifo?] malfunction... brilliant, now I lost both CD-ROM drives.

Not a problem, the installation program in on a floppy disk for Win95... however, now the floppy drive won't work. Sh*t. (Amazingly, the hard drives and network didn't fail...) Well, copy the files onto the drive through my network. Install the drive. Yay. Itr works perfectly. Now, here's the fucked-up part:

I start 1-step backup... and configure and satart it. Now, "My Computer" is still open in the background. asI watch it... *POP*! All of a sudden, my two CD-ROM drives pop up (F:\ and G:\ now). So... I try to access one. I get the standard Error: No CD-ROM message... so I pop in a disk and access it. it all works now.

Does anyone know why my secondary ID channel did that? (NOTE: I cut out cursing, multiple restarts, and that sort of thing) It just... hot-fixed itself.

Bad cable or loose connection, maybe? That is pretty odd...

Nope, not at all: It happened again (sort of).

I boot up my computer and wow, whaddaya know, I don't have the CD-ROM drives anymore. "Fuck it" I say, and reboot via the shut down menu.

I log in, open up My Computer. There are the CD-ROM drives, ready to go.

Figure that one out

You may have the incorrect jumper settings on your IDE devices. If you are running more than one device through a cable, you must set both a master and a slave. You could also make sure that the cables are plug in correctly and that your computer has enough of a power supply.

I checked and double-checked.

Also, the PSU is mroe than god enough, and lastly; I've found a )poor_ workaround. Turnsou thtat If I disable my secondary IDE channel and restart, then enable it, I can get access to my CD Burner.

the CRD-8240B doesn't work in windwos at all any more... and removing it crashed the computer becuase ESDI_506.pdr (a driver for the secondary IDE channel) locked up whil Windows was trying to initialize it... perhaps a corrupt driver?
