And what would that weapon be? It has to be a practical weapon. Something like a pencil wouldn't be an option. The intruder is unarmed, is male, and has an average build. He isn't aware that you are awake, so you can potentially have the element of surprise.

I could have a baseball bat in my hands within 1.4 seconds. If I wanted or felt the need to, I could take about 5 seconds to get a pistol.

About 4 seconds to retrieve a 3 foot long metal dowel covered in duct-tape..

Or, a really nice hunting knife, but that may take 15 seconds.

0 seconds. Unless I go make a damp cloth. Stupid god-damned rules here. It's possible for the intruder to ACTUALY get away with nothing, and you get fined or something. I'm not clear on it myself.

I don't have anything here that could be used for a weapon at all. The only thing close to a weapon is my swiss army knife that I keep in my closet.

In short, I hope no one tries to break into my room.

Assuming I'm fully awake, I can have a large Mag-Lite* in my hands in about 3 seconds tops, depending on where I am in my room. (I keep it under my bed, so...)

That, and you can flash the light in his eyes and momentatrily blind him, too, and then ram it into his gut (or other painful place), or just scare him off... heh

I could get my gun that I've hidden in my bedroom (doesn't take long, maybe 3 seconds), and whack the intruder with it (getting ammo would take too long, I think, 7 seconds). And if this doesn't work, I could probably get some knives (4 seconds) and use them...

I have knives sticking in my wall above my bed, so it'd take me <1 second to have a weapon ready. screwdrivers as well.

yes I stab my wall and leave whatever I stabbed it with there . ITS DECORATING.

I don't think I would ever trust myself to carry a gun, I'm entirely to reckless and have the tendency to lose my temper over the smallest things.

Also, you say something like a pencil doesn't count, but any sharp object when you have the element of suprise is more than you need to put a man down, for one I know for a fact there would be no unarmed intruders in this neighborhood =p

He could potentially hear you approaching or see you in the shadows, though. Ans keep in mind that the intruder could use his body as a weapon.

0 Seconds, because I would use a weapon. I would use my fists on their face. Even if they have a weapon, I was trained by a Marine. Im ready.

If I was at my friends house we could get guns (like 8 different kinds) and use those. Even so I think I would use my fists...

It would take one second to get the knife that is next to my bed or the bat that is under my bed.

If those fail, it would take me 1.2 seconds to run the fuck out of my room and try to save my life.

try

Baseball bat, in less then three seconds, and I know how to use it to deliver as much power as possible. (learning to power hit does that for ya). I could also use my spikes which would deliver lots of nasty cuts to his body.

6 seconds and I can have an Xbox ready.

Alright, seriously though, I've got a few plastic rods scattered around my room (no clue where I got them, had them for a while). One about 2.5 feet near my bed and two 1.5 feet elsewhere. So assuming it didn't get knocked under anything, I could have the long one in only a few seconds.

Nothing sharp, but it'd do.

I can have a wall scroll rolled up in 5 seconds but it wouldn't doo an yserious damage. THere are knives in my kitchen but there would be a good chance he would see me If I went to got them. And the baseball bats are in the garage. Makes me glad I live in a place where intruders are rare if not non-existent.

Let's see....

Within arms reach of me at the moment, I can do several things:

I can have about six or seven cords from various electronic devices ready with which to strangle him or tie him up when I've brought him down if I have to bring him down. The first thing in particular I see is my Nintendo DS charger, which I could, if I have the element of surprise, get him around the neck with. As it's my house, I have a knack for being able to walk around in it without sound and missing all of the important creaky floorboards.

I have two glasses in front of me, I could shatter and break them and use the glass as a sharp implement.

I have a cellular phone directly in front of me, which I could use to call the police.

Working off of the element of surprise rule, I have a trombone hanging above my head that I could either use to play a very loud note to scare/disrupt him, or just slam him over the head with about 20 pounds of solid brass.

It would take me 15ish seconds to get to the kitchen and find something from our extensive amount of knives, and I'll assume he's entering via the back door, since entering via the front door will, no matter what, make a very loud noise guaranteed to wake everyone in the house up (we have an oversized door there: it's a struggle and a half to get it open).

I can throw pretty much anything in my room.

There's a hammer in my box of video games that I could get in about five seconds. The same applies to a screwdriver.

If I so desired, I could use that screwdriver to unscrew one of my ceiling fan's blades and use that as a blunt object that's more built for swinging than a trombone case.

I own a pair of handcuffs that have a safety catch to them, but it's hard to find at first glance and in the dark, so that would at least assist in apprehending him until I can use my various cords to finish tying him up.

If I can get downstairs and past him at all (or if he's doing the stupid thing and entering through the front door), there's a load of tools and equipment in the utility room of my house, many of which can be deadly if used improperly.

If he's there to steal stuff, chances are he's going for something valuable: I could use my iPod as bait.

There's a solid glass paperweight on my desk that I can use as a very effective bludgeoning tool/punch weight. It can also be thrown for a good headshot.

If it's dark, I have a modified nerf N-Strike Maverick that I can use to hold him up if I get the drop on him.

That's about all I can think of right off the bat...

From where I sit now, I could have a guitar in my hands in 1 second, silverware from my kitchen in 3 seconds and a hockey stick in my hands in about 5 seconds. I also have an old printer next to me that's worth a throw. There're tons of throwable objects near me actually.

I'd go for the guitar probably unless I could get that large knife in my kitchen.

I could use my dad's baseball bat hanging on the wall in about 3-4 seconds. Or I could use my slightly smaller baseball bat which is on display next to my computer in about .5 seconds.

Better yet, I'd throw a sheet over me and dress up as a ghost to scare him away

If sound doesn't count, I could run to the kitchen in about 4 seconds, and would take about another second to whip out the butcher knife. I have a tennis racket in my room, so I can use that as a pre-emptive strike to stun him, then I go for the knives. Since he'd be knocked out, I can run. Getting the racket would take less than half a second. I have some cords sticking around, the closest being a networking cord. I can also use that as a replacement for the racket. We have a knife taped to a stick for... Well, for in case of an emergency. That's in the hallway, so probably around 3 seconds. So... Yeah. Quite a few "weapons" at my disposal. Oh! Almost forgot! There's an x-acto knife 1 foot in front of me. That'll take like .01 seconds. So that might be helpful.

If all else fails, my bedroom window is weak enough to be broken with marbles. I have a huge dictionary which I use as a pad for papercraftting video game icons, so I could use that to destroy the window, go around to the garage, and take the bb-gun from it, and try to shoot his eyes. I have crappy aim, so I'll either morbidly miss, or shoot some other body parts. Heh. That'd be great.

"Excuse me officer, I have an intruder in my home who has been shot in the crotch."

[EDIT] How could I forget? I could also use our George Foreman grill, if I'm in the mood for some fun.
