| I could see that sorta working with a few adjustments... Just make the top magnet larger and stringer, and have the small bar magnets arranges so that they are pulled up by the large magnet on one end, and shoved down on the other, and then have the fan be changed to a rotary disc that's not gogn to be fighting the wind. | |||

And not worth the money, either, unless you want to convince a bunch of kids that you've unlocked the mysteries of the universe (they don't have enough attention span to watch them wind down). |

| Along the same lines as what shreename said. This is complete amateurish bullshit that's been constructed with a 6th grade mentality about science.
Remember, there's a HUGE difference between running a very long time by itself (never actually forever) and having to do actual WORK. Remember, forget friction, the whole point is to actually POWER something. For that to happen, the thing would have to be constantly GAINING energy. Not only would it have to run forever which is impossible, if left with no physical load, it would have to actually get FASTER over time with no input work. There is absoloutly no way to ever ever ever build a perpetual motion machine. Period. The output energy of a machine will ALWAYS be less than input energy. (Do not confuse this with the economic concept of work/energy ratio.) |

If it did work, gas companies would ensure he didn't live long enough to publish it online.  I've seen a number of machines that supposedly pulled energy from unknown sources given only a small initial charge (stick a 9-volt battery in and it powers your house for a few months), that were all rejected as not working because the tests were intentionally done wrong. Whether this is true is anyone's guess, but you know that's what would happen to any such machine that does work.(edited by HyperHacker on 08-18-06 05:14 PM) |

| People don't seem to understand that perpetual motion machines aren't considered impossible because no ones came up with one yet. They're considered impossible because the contradict fundamental laws of physics. There's a huge difference between converting between kinetic and potential energy and actually creating new energy, which is what is nessicary to create perpetual motion machine.
People just keep wasting time and money on them anyway. Because they figure they'll change the world by creating an indepletable source of energy. Even though we clearly already have an indepletable source of energy. Atleast for the next 5 billion years. |

| I think it made about as much sense as could be requested for a thread such as this. Otherwise, I just have to say... the word is "boatswain", not "boson".
As for the whole "gas company destroying other energy source" idea... Wouldn't they be the first to jump on? Anything to make them seem generous would probably be considered a good business move, as well as the fact that the market would be almost untapped at that point. |

| Although perpetual motion isn't something I believe in or really think is even necessary, I do believe in new fuel types. There's lots of stuff that can be done theoretically but isn't worth it at the moment. I'd like to see Fusion Reactors become reality and maybe even Cold Fusion (although that's more of a dream). |
