After submitting a few of my works here, I just have to ask everyone a few questions... I ask because frankly, I have had doubts that this is the right audience for my art. At this point, I'd rather get a "Your art sucks" than no reply at all... It disappoints me because I feel that many people here are intelligent and mature enough to appreciate what I drag out. I may just need to limit myself to DeviantArt from now on. I'll wait and see...

So...

+ What do you consider art?
+ What do you look/care for?
--design
--creativity
--technique
--detail
--effort
--neatness
*etc*

+ How do you usually interpret art?
+ What is art?
--A bunch of code.
--A bunch of rips collaged together.
--Something unique.
--Something visually appealing.
*etc*

How does html and different colored borders fit into the art category?

What kind of art appeals to you?

What elements do you appreciate most?
--Linework
--Patterns
--Forms
*etc*

How important do you think a critique is? In other words, what value do you place it upon when you're the one giving a critique?

For other artists and "artists"...

Do you really seek improvement in your own skills?

--If not, why are you still making "art"?

What purpose do you pursue in your creations?

How much effort do you put into your work and what duration of time working on your project is considered hard work?

Big questions in large quantities, I know... but I'd like to find out from everyone who has submitted something here. I work for compatability in art and any replies to my questions would help me out alot.

+ What do you consider art?
Anything made, with skill, by your own two hands.

+ What do you look/care for?
Creativity, anatomical accuracy when it comes to figures (I can be loose when it comes to anime and fanatsy stuff), effort.

+ How do you usually interpret art?
Something visually appealing and leaves the viewer open to interpretation. Sometimes as a gateway to one's feelings and emotions.

What kind of art appeals to you?
Traditional art. Sketches, charcol, paint, and even written documents.

What elements do you appreciate most?
Lineart, color, clarity and definition.

How important do you think a critique is? In other words, what value do you place it upon when you're the one giving a critique?
I try to be the one to point out flaws and whatnot so that the artist has something to work with. I tend to not tell the artist how to change it, since their own style leaves the thing needing to be changed open to its own interpretation.

Do you really seek improvement in your own skills?
Constantly.

+ What do you consider art?
-- anything that can be viewed upon or listened to and appeal to someone; art can be anything from toothpicks stacked up to form a model bridge, to an interactive demo coded in brainfuck.

+ What do you look/care for?
there are a few key things I look for, or rather, try to look for.
--technique
--style
--overall design
--the "feel" [one I can usually not sense these days]

+ How do you usually interpret art?
-- n/a

+ What is art?
--I believe I answered this in the first question.

+ How does html and different colored borders fit into the art category?
-- it can generate a "theme," and show a user knows how to use a language to manipulate the look and feel of something. there is a technique to that, just as there is a technique to drawing the anatomy of a person, or making a tree with pixelart.

+ What kind of art appeals to you?
-- demoscene pixelart, some paintings, B&W sketches, mostly scenery, some abstract.

+ What elements do you appreciate most?
-- I mostly appreciate the "feel" and "design" of a piece, because those are two elements I suck at convey'ing.

+ How important do you think a critique is? In other words, what value do you place it upon when you're the one giving a critique?
-- I believe critique is a very important thing. For years I was getting none, and my skill level stayed the same [I sucked ass], I went into a community who did nothing but critique artwork, and I came out a much better artist for it.

+ Do you really seek improvement in your own skills?
-- Of course, there is no roof to how good something can be, if you think you know everything, there's still at least one more thing to learn, one new technique to try, some new "feeling" to convey.

+ What purpose do you pursue in your creations?
-- ATM, I am seeking to build a portfolio of work; Other times my purpose is please the client, before the deadline if possible. when I'm working on 'hobby art' the only purpose I have is to make it "look good," which gives me alot of freedom.

+ How much effort do you put into your work and what duration of time working on your project is considered hard work?
-- I usually work on something until I can't see any possible way to improve upon it, and when I show others, they approve of it. For what duration of time is considered hardwork depends mostly on what type of art it is, how big it is, and what it's needed for, ie. I was able to make a website layout in 15 minutes of hard work, because they are to be viewed casually, and not studied, they look good for their purpose, and that is all they are meant to look good for. I take into consideration what size a work is meant to be viewed in before even making it, and depending on how much detail I need, I will put in even more hard work.

If you wish to grow, I would hardly consider dA the place to do it. Especially with their new layout, its so lame . Hope I was specific enough for you ;p

Anything that is created by the hands of a sentient beings can be considered art.

It's that simple.

Also, DA sucks for art. Alot.

+ What do you consider art?
A combination of creativity, effort, skill and effectivity of available resources for the sake of conveying an idea.

+ What do you look/care for?
The first thing I look at is that if it is appealing. Then its purpose along its creativity.

There are so many things I have seen in some museums around here that really shouldn't be called art. An example is at a museum that there was one giant sheet of paper (I estimate it was 50x50 cm), with a tiny building drawn on it, covering at most 5% of the whole sheet. One of my teachers asked me what did I see. I said "one huge waste of paper". The other guy said "it probably conveys how much people care to cover all and thinking the larger, the better; so it is meant to show how such small artwork can be as good as something larger"

Perhaps the artist who did it was a genius, but wasting so much paper (innefective employment of resources) really pissed me off. I'm almost certain there were hundreds of ways much better to convey such a message.

Then again, I was kicked from that art class because I was "so narrow minded".

+ How do you usually interpret art?
As the medium to express ideas not effectively portrayed by traditional forms of communication.

+ What is art?
The first question seems very alike.

+ How does html and different colored borders fit into the art category?
It fits within graphic design, somethign that has been associated with visual arts since the beginning of time.

Nearly everything is called art nowadays, anyway.

+ What kind of art appeals to you?
Visual arts the most (anything drawing/painting/pixelart, film making and even some comic books/webcomics), and then music.

+ What elements do you appreciate most?
The message/idea, and overall feel.

+ How important do you think a critique is? In other words, what value do you place it upon when you're the one giving a critique?
A critique is the semi-objective perception people have about your expressed idea/feeling/whatever. It is relevant in the fact that can help you improve as an artist, and point out those silly mistakes you missed.

+ Do you really seek improvement in your own skills?
Of course, I will die and probably say: "Is that all? Man, your skill is not enough to enter the artsyfaggot heaven".

+ What purpose do you pursue in your creations?
The same hing I defined as art in the first question. But I suck at it.

+ How much effort do you put into your work and what duration of time working on your project is considered hard work?
I work on my stuff to the rate i think it is done. However, being done for me doesn't mean it is a complete work meant to go public. It's just taht I don't see the point of still working on it.

i admire the individuals who can work on their creatiosn for even years, i wish I had their patience.
