Ok, seriously. What is the big deal with Emril and Polk and all those other television chefs. Why, for that matter, is there a food network in the first place? Seriously, 99.999% of food tastes exactally the same no matter how you cook it. I think this is somehow a giant worldwide scam that's been going on for several hundered years now. It seriously needs to stop.

The only one I like is the one with Alton Brown, but that's only because it's interesting. He actually tells you why the ingredients work the way they do and all that stuff.

I've no idea who those chefs are, but I quite like cooking shows. I like learning new stuff, and it happens to be one good way to do so

There are cooking shows and then THERE ARE COOKING SHOWS.

Seriously Iron Chef is so entertaining(the American version sucks ass though) even if it's just two chefs battling in the ever famous "kitchen stadium"...Aww who am I kidding, there's NO way to play it down, it's just that epic of a show. Those segments where Kaga talks about the chefs is also crucial: "If my memory serves me correctly"-- haha!

Yeah, I mean, Iron Chef is freaking awesome. There's no way the show can be anything but the clash of the titans of oven mitts and spatulas. I like Emeril, too. I like the way they make their food look, even if you have no taste and think it all tastes the same, at least the visualization that they provide shows that these are people who really put real work into their food.

As for me, I've been brought up to enjoy food. I went from barely having enough food to survive as a kid to having all the food I can possibly eat as an adult, and I STILL eat Macaroni and Cheese from the box. I enjoy it. All food definitely doesn't taste the same, man.

Indeed. Properly prepared food can be damn good, and doesn't all taste the same. You don't really think fried chicken tastes the same as cherries?

The Food Network is probably interesting only to people who enjoy cooking. People probably get more insight then they would from just reading a cookbook.

However, Iron Chef is the only show I can watch on that channel.

I think that pretty much says it. Food tastes way different if you just add one little thing or do some stuff different with it. A person who claims everything tastes the same is a person I see buying nutrition pills (all-you-need-in-one) whenever they become available.

I've been saying for years that we need some kind of generic nutrition unit and just start buying them in bulk. Food is fuel and eating is an inconvinence. That's why fast food is popular. Nobody should have to waste an entire freaking hour to refil their cars with gas, so why the time waste with food? Even if all sorts of food tasted great, fine. Sitting around for a entire hour to enjoy is is both sloth AND gluttony, espically when the time could be spent doing something productive.

...then I think your issues go a little farther than irritating celebrity chefs.

PS: Alton Brown and Anthony Bourdain FTW. The same for Iron Chef (although Food Network's version isn't insultingly bad, unlike SOME adaptations put on by UPN...) and, I guess, Jaime Oliver? Rachael Ray must be made humble, old country way. I vote that before we get to work on those nutrition pills, we make the usage of "E.V.O.O." to refer to extra virgin olive oil a capital offense.

What are you talking about? You know there are some foods that are delicious and nutritious, how is it glutonny to sit around and eat something delicious that isn't terrible for you? And even some foods that aren't 100% healthy, its still not a terrible thing to eat. Doing something productive? Some people make their living cooking food you know. And what about gourmets whose lives it is to taste delicious food? Surely you can't tell all of those people what they do is unproductive, or even counterproductive...

eeee, but on the subject of TV chefs, I <3 the original Iron Chef and ever since I came here, I've fallen for Alton Brown D; hello, his show is interesting and entertaining, I've learned way too much from him He's like my idol when it comes to this stuff..

He makes a good point. If you're just cooking and eating, doing nothing else, you're basically wasting time as you could just grab some pre-made snack that takes a minute to eat. Thing is, some people enjoy cooking and/or eating. It's not gluttony to enjoy a good meal unless you're eating way too much.
And what if you're a cook? Then it's not wasting time, it's doing your job. Personally, I like to cook things that don't require much attention, and do whatever needs to be done while I wait. Eating is more of a break than anything.

I'm guessing he'd have them find another line of work. Although it begs the question of just what's productive. Brillat-Savarin would probably want to punch ||bass in the face with the entire French Directorate for making such suggestions. You ask me, if you ditch the ritual of cooking, you lose your soul.
