So I want to play through Paper Mario 2 again, but I want to give myself some sort of challenge to follow the entire way through that will make the game harder and more enjoyable without limiting the fun factor.

For example, if you say, "Well, don't equip badges" that would make the game harder, but it totally limits my abilities in battle.

My friend had the idea of never equipping the Quick Change badge (which swaps partners instantly) and I had an idea of never going to an inn or using a heart block.

Just some ideas. Does anyone have any other ides like that which would would work well?

Use gameshark and other tricks to get many double pain badges equip them and see how hard the game gets.

edit:what you mean is to decrease hp to 5 and equip the badges that increase your power if you have around that hp.

Yea, I almost forgot the double damage badge!

I think I'll add that to my checklist.

But no, see, I don't want to limit my abilities/stats in that type of way (never upgrading FP). Then I can't do anything!
I want to be able to use any attacks/abilties, just limit certain aspects.
Like, Mario should be as buff as he would be, I'll just make some other elements restricted.

Thanks for the ideas.
I need to remember how to get Double Pain so I can get it really early.

No 1-Up Shrooms, perhaps? How about ONLY upgrading FP, so Mario will need every other badge and protection spell possible. Too bad Mario can't fight alone.... Hey... Wait... Just like the solo-Cecil challenge in Final Fantasy IV, try killing all of your party members, so Mario fights alone?

Didn't exactly see that last post. I just skimmed through the suggestions, pretty much.

Never do any stylish moves. It would make it harder to gain star points and with less star points = more challenge.

I never even learned about stylish moves until I beat the game the 2nd time

Only thing I could saw would be try to avoid as many enemies as possible and go straight to the bosses. I mean, you would still be forced to level up in most places, but it would certainly be interesting to see you stand up to the last boss at level 10-15

Also, once you beat the game, try to get to level 99. I personally haven't done it, only 45 ATM, but it would be neat to see how fast you can blow through the last 30 levels of the Po100T. (I would be 99 already, but constantly killing the same golden Bullet Bills in Palace of Shadow gets really boring after a few levels)

you can get killer star points for killing the Amayzee Dayzee in the Pit of 100 Trials. I believe it's only in the last 20 levels or so.

Here's another one: Don't use the Peek-A-Boo badge or any of the shield (spike shield, fire shield, etc) badges.

I find it kinda odd that some of the challenges I rather avoided doing simply out of not wanting to do pointless things. Like not equipping the peekaboo badge; I always figured that for useless thanks to Tattle.

Yea, same here.

Well, I recently started a new game, but it's real easy right now--I mean, I can't even do most of the stuff I'm now allowing myself to do yet! :p

Here are the conditions I'm going to abide by:

- No Inns
- No Heart Boxes
- No Quick Change
- No Power Plus/Defense Plus (Or Damage Dodge)
- No P-Up or D-Up
- No Shield Badges (Or Feeling Fine)
* Double Pain Badge Equipped (Can't get until after Chapter 1)
- No Happy Heart/Happy Flower (Unless it actually gets ridiculously hard)
* Simplifier Badge??? (I don't knw yet, it would make things easier, but harder)
- No Counter Attacks

And I'm still pondering a policy on Star Powers. After all, it's really easy to use them when you get sylishes and what-not all the time.
But I haven't used my Sweet Treat yet, even though I haven't been healing with inns/etc.
Also, since I'll be wearing Double Pain, etc., I may get to a point where I'll basically need them in order to survive.*shrug*

I'm sure it will get harder as I go under these conditions.

--

edit: Hey, I double checked, and the Simplifier Badge DOES affect Star Power, like I thought.
Hm...I guess maybe I should try it. After all, I don't have trouble with Action Commands. Hopefully, it doesn't make Defense any easier, because that's the only time I might screw up.

Also, I fought Hooktail, without the Cricket Badge...I almost died. :p
Then again, I wasn't fully stocked up on items, either.
I think I'm gonna ix-nay on the no...tar-say ower-pay...
Because geez, when baddies will be doing twice as much damage to me later on...?
I think Star Power is gonna be practically necessary.

Yeah...but see...you get to a point where the game would be impossible if you do all that. Maybe do a few of those things, but ... well, it would just be killer hard

I know, that's precisely the point.

I've played the game for about 120 hours at this point, so doing this gives me some motivation to enjoy it some more.

I am beginning to realize that all of those things all stacked on top of each other may make the game TOO difficult, but rather too difficult than too easy, if you ask me.

I'm going to keep abiding by these rules and see just how hard it gets. Mwaha. >

Minus the heart boxes and inns and the double pain badge, I did all that for no specific reason And those three are all coverable by. Spamming healing items with coins gotten from grinding against weaklings.
