Like the thread"Useful hints for SMW hackers", this is useful hints for SMW level designing. I make this thread in order to make every SMW hack more enjoyable.
And, get rid of some boring levels.(BUT NOT BUMPING OLD THREADS)
Like this:
Put many throwable blocks in front of a timed lift to make the level much harder.

And, don't forget to put a right number before you post. It will be better if you post a picture of it.

Thanks.

I dont know if this will be closed but...

Tips:
Try to make levels have secret(bonus) areas.
Coins exist you know. I hate it when I play hacks that you barely see coins.
This is one of the tricks I do when making levels, look for all the objects you think you will use and paste them at the top of the screen so you just copy them and paste them where you need them.
Use slopes often.
Make casttles have lots of secrets, dont make a casttle that you only move to the right.
Use Layer 2 often.
Test your levels before releasing a demo!!
Dont leave big empty areas in levels.

Thats about it.

It would be better if you edited your post as people post more tips, and number them then youself. But anyway, good idea for a thread, in my opinion. You should copy all of the tips from the similar thread that was in the archive. There were a few hundred, if I recall correctly.

Anyway, just three of my own tips:

1. Use a different graphic syle for different levels. Avoid using the same background twice in the whole game, at least not with a different palette.
2. Don't make too many normal levels. There should be many themed levels in one world, like normal, underground, water, if possible.
3. Make your levels fun to play, and include bonus areas in them.

Also, don't overuse fun.
Bowser's castle with 3-up moons and Flowers may ruin the scene.

What I got was don't use happy fun sunshine candy graphics in a place like Bowser's Castle that's not supposed to be happy and fun.

I like to use two instances of LM for this. Make a copy of the ROM just to stick objects in, arrange them however, then copy them to your level as needed.

I think a tips-and-tricks thread is a decent idea, but I also think that the big contributors for this type of thread have no damn idea what good advice actually is, thus rendering the thread useless. For example....

I'm in agreement with Kyouji on this one... this piece of misadvice is punch-in-face-worthy. Remember when d4s complimented Icegoom on his consistent style and everyone was in shock that he actually gave a compliment? That's how important it is not to follow your advice.

Crap. Was that a big deal? I don't know if I even replied to him at the time...

It had to have been important because not only did that chump Shyguy mention it, but then somebody else did in a poll later. Really would have been nice if they had paid attention to "use consistent styles" comments from Kyouji, who's been saying that for, like, years now.

- Don't touch palettes 0 and 1 past the first eight colors. It's not a big deal, but people tend to complain if status bar palettes are off.

- TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL THE SPRITES AVAILABLE! Dear god, I hate seeing how underused sprites like the P Balloon are. Just don't use sprites in tilesets where they appear glitched, though.

- Don't build levels out of only one object. You have numerous available to you. Use them.

- Don't overdo the coins, but don't leave them out entirely either.

To all of the people who use a HUGE layout:
Don't use them anymore because it's hard to read!

Oh, well, making level fun is necessary.

And, Bowser's Castle with flowers??? What do you mean? Flower is just a powerup.

Bonus areas? None of the hacks contains no bonus areas.

And, I mean how to place object/sprite to make fun levels, not advice for SMW hackers again.

Put a picture please.

Thanks.
