Well, seeing that the Hall of Fame Game (Eagles vs. Raiders) is on Sunday, I guess there's no better time to start the official 2006 NFL Thread. So, without further ado...

Random prediction: Skins vs Colts superbowl.

Definately two NFC east teams in the playoffs.

I'm interested in how the Chargers will do, too.

I wouldn't be surprised if three NFC East teams made it, seeing that it's most definitely the tightest division in the NFL.

Exactly, its too tight, so one good team is bound to have a mediocre record because they play a difficult schedule, while a team with a pansy schedule in the NFC south sneaks in to the other wild card.

I think it's 'Skins and 'Boys in the East.

Eagles are still recovering and might be on the downhill slope. They'd be a contender in any other division, but not the NFC East.

And the Giants are just a half-step behind the other two. They have some GOOD players, sure, and Eli could be a great QB in years to come, but I don't think they're quite there yet. Plus how their linebacker depth got completely devastated last year wasn't too inspiring.

EDIT: East, not South. Doh.

I'm leaning toward the Cowboys and Giants

And Donte Whitner signed with my Bills (About Time )

That leaves Matt Leinart and someone else...

Jason Allen is the other kid who hasn't signed yet. I'd go with Cowboys/Redskins to go 10-7 or so, Giants 8-8 and Eagles... well, maybe about 5-11.

Since Sandrocklq did his... My predictions are first, and then my notes are after them.

AFC:

East: Miami Dolphins
Wildcard - New England Patriots

North: Pittsburg Steelers
Wildcard: Cincinatti Bengals

South: Indianapolis Colts

West: Denver Broncos

NFC:

East: Washington Redskins
Wildcard: Dallas Cowboys

North: Chicago Bears

South: Carolina Panthers
Wildcard: Atlanta Falcons

West: Seattle Seahawks

Superbowl:

Washington Redskins over Indianapolis Colts

---

First, the AFC wild cards are incredibly hard to pick. Assuming one wildcard is in the AFC East (Which I think there will be), there are five legitimate contenders for the other wildcard: Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, and the three teams in the AFC North that don't win the division are all realistic choices.

In the NFC... Again, in the NFC East, we have a division where all 4 teams have realistic shots at the playoffs. (The Eagles are head and shoulders below the other 3, but only because the other 3 teams are so damn good.) Also, the other wildcard could easily be the Arizona Cardinals instead of the Atlanta Falcions. All depends on how well their offensive line plays.

I want to say Bills or Packers for the win. But I know that my dream is always squashed early.

Packers have an outside shot, I think. If they can avoid having as many injuries and last year, and if their RBs can perform as well as they did last year, they can have an explosive running game to take some pressure off Farve.

Bills... Don't think so.

I must ask what the Colts did that made them better enough to reach the Super Bowl... they lost Edgerrin James, and I don't care what kind of skills he has, Addai is no Edge. And its not just you who picked them, critics on TV seem to like taking the Colts too. With the AFC as tough as it could be, I don't see this happening really.

Alright, picks.

AFC East: Dolphins Conference Champs
Patriots Wild Card

AFC North: Steelers

AFC West: Broncos Conference Champs
Chargers Wild Card

AFC South: Indianapolis

AFC Championship: Colts vs. Patriots

AFC Champs: Patriots

NFC East: Cowboys Conference Champs
Redskins Wild Card

NFC North: Bears

NFC West: Seahawks

NFC South: Panthers Conference Champs
Falcons Wild Card

NFC Championship: Cowboys vs. Panthers

NFC Champs: Panthers

Super Bowl: Patriots vs. Panthers, Panthers win the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl MVP: Steve Smith.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Reggie Bush

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Antonio Cromartie

MVP: LaDanian Tomlinson.

Actually, it's really a disagreement with this that makes me pick them. I think the AFC has got a bit easier since last year, and the NFC a bit harder.

Signing Vinateri helps a lot, too.

Plus the defense has been steadily improving, and I don't know why it would suddenly stop.

I applaud you for supporting a team on the way down... but they don't seem to be getting better. They lost Eric Moulds, they still have no quarterback, and only good thing I've seen is Takeo Spikes coming back. McGahee's a gamer, though, I'll give you that much.

The Bills quarterback situation will be their main downfall this season. The Colts are due for a down year, although it would be no surprise to see them in the playoffs.

Eh, you must not fully grasp the playoff system in the NFL. Division winners get in, no matter what their record, so one of your three wild cards can't exist.

Ok, time for NFL Playoffs for Dummies:

There are 32 teams in the NFL. They are split into 2 "Conferences" of 16 teams each. Each conference has four "Divisions" of 4 teams each.

Each conference gets 6 playoff spots. 2 "Bye" spots (These teams don't have to play in the first round), 2 normal spots, and 2 "Wildcard" spots. That makes 12 teams overall.

The winners of each division get an automatic spot in the playoffs. The two higher-ranked teams get the Bye spots, while the other two get the normal spots.

Then the two best teams in each conference that didn't win their divison get the Wildcard spots.

As such, if your name is Mister Lover and you list 13 teams, and have the Falcons winning their division but not making the playoffs somehow... Please revise your list to fit the format.

So what your saying is that a 0-15-1 team if that theam is the winner of their division. That seems unfair to the all 15 other teams that have a better record than them in the conference.

Yes i did know that the system was like that.

And my update:

NFC East: Eagles Conference Champs

NFC North: Bears are in
Packers are in

NFC West: Seahawks with birth
Rams in

NFC South:
Buccaneers are in

As you can see i got rid of the cowboys and put the Buccaneers in the falcons place
