There was already a 5+ hour wait for Nintendo's booth this year. There's no way possible to let the public in and be able to get to see anything on the floor.

And once again, Joystiq proves their incompetence.

In short: E3 not cancelled.

And once again this board proves its incompetence. Joystiq was only repeating what Next-Gen said. If you read the article, you'd know that.

Yeah, the link *was* the first thing in that Joystiq article...

I think it's a given something bad's happening to E3 tomorrow so let's see what it is exactly. I understand the media concerns but I also think that a lot of the appeal of E3 is going to be taken away if you limit the media to only a handful of people.

I do know that; I was simply stating that Joystiq has, yet again, posted another article without bothering to check for "real" sources.

This isn't the first time.

They should downside the trade shows. Haven't game companies learned by now games with zero advertisement sell poorly? A TV commercial or magazine ad reaches far wider audiences than some goofy event only the press can see. Heck, most of the time I don't learn until months afterward that titles from people like SNK had came out.

Yeah, but the information about it on wikipedia was added by me right AFTER I posted the link in my previous post, so wikipedia wouldn't have been useful here.

They might as well have said "cancelled" because next year's E3 is probably going to suck with the new restrictions. I'm sure they could have downsized it a bit, but this is too much.

It's just another trade show now, and not exactly a must for the media I fear.

Honestly, I think my respect just dropped for these people. Not only have they not tried to grab the public's attention to mend the situation, they just up and left. Just like that. No cool new inventive ways to catch people's attention, no real awe inspiring games, nothing.

Microsoft I'm sad to hear has decided to pull out, as well as EA. I wouldn't have minded looking at some new graphics for Red Alert 3 or some kickass X360 games on IGN or something. But Sony and Nintendo don't surprise me.

Here's a tip to keep a trade show a trade show: Spend some money to catch the interest of your target consumer. Not working? Try something new. Stop wasting your talent on games like Super Monkey Ball (No offense to fans, I meant to say it's pretty damn inventive) and dazzle us.

Better yet, put out AFTER said dazzling

I'm not salesman, but does that not make sense? Lose some to gain some?

I think this is better for the gaming community as a whole. Think about it. Every year, there would be a huge lump of gaming information for one week, then the rest of the year would be completely uneventful aside from the TGS. Now everything will be spread out.

According to GameSpot, it seems the main companies pushing for this were Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and THQ. I'm guessing the former two wanted to have their own big events probably closer to their home bases; Nintendo strikes me as a company who probably didn't care which way E3 went and maybe they'll bring back Spaceworld now. Dunno.

Wow, how the f5ck did I miss this thread...?
I coulda sworn I checked the entire front page...Didn't figure it'd be past that, what-not with the accounement happening yesterday-ish and confirmation today...

Oh, well.

I really liked the Loop that Attack of the Show did today on that topic.

I just find it funny that multiple people in this thread were like "DUR HUR HUR ST00PID JOYSTIQ LOOK E3 NOT CANCELED....." and then the story essentially checks out.

My take on news stories is that if several sources are running with the story, then it's either true or close to the truth. If it's only one source, then... wait and see if it's a trusted source, take with a grain of salt if not.

And it's named "E3 Expo" Which is really, really stupid.

Electronic Entertainment Expo Expo, what a great name.

My friend got to go last year, too. The last year that it was going to be the awesome-fest that it was. I'm going to miss it.

It's supposed to appeal to the people, bring gamers together, and be for the people. Now, it's just back to letting the media touch games that we won't get our hands on for months/years.
