What if the handheld was designed for homebrew, ala GP2X?

Yeah, i really don't like people claiming the PSP is better than the DS when they only use their PSP for wathcing downloaded movies, playing downloaded music, and emulating other consoles. If you prefer the PSP's game selection to the DS', good for you, but if you're not using it as a handheld gaming system, don't compare it to one. Please. That's like saying a fridge is better than an oven. And you don't hear people going "LolZ u hav a oven, ovens sux. y dont u get an fridge insted??????", do you?

What emulator do you use? I know of two, one that barely does anything and one that only supports flash carts.

My PSP? heh, SNES and NES and Genesis emulation for car trips. Playing Gunstar Heroes in the car is real fun

See? See? You're using your PSP for everything but what Sony was hoping you'd use it for. Homebrew, emulation, ripped movies... Oh, and LocoRoco. Forgot about that one.

Given how LocoRoco's been marketed in the States, maybe Sony doesn't want you to use your PSP to play it either.

It's also amusing to see Sony continue to release firmware versions to try limit people's opportunities to use their PSP for other things, yet workarounds exist.

I don't know what it is about the PSP, I just ... don't care for it. I even bought the $300 "1 Gig Dou Stick" package. Quite a regret of mine ...

Even after buying Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, I still find myself hardly playing that. I should just look around eBay for a PSX copy and get that. Lenneth was pretty much the only reason why I've kept my PSP this long. And now I've realized I'd rather play an RPG like that on a real TV.

I also have the Gradius collection, which is amazing, but both the d-pad and joystick don't feel right at all for those games.

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops is the only other PSP game that looks somewhat promising. But since I don't touch my PSP, I should probably just sell it.

I now use my PSP as a holder for various objects (namely, my glasses).

Every Extra Extend (or whatever that game is) looks really fun, though, so...

If it requires upgrading to 2.XX (which it almost undoubtably will), I'll pass. :/

Oh and Tekken: Dark Ressurection is absolutely awesome too, the best Handheld fighter ever created.

Just thought I'd add that in

What the matter with 2.xx? The GTA:LCS workaround works up to 2.6.

Good riddance to UMD movies! They mostly only have the theatrical versions of films, they can't hold as much as a dvd, so they often exclude the special features, plus they only play on psp!!! If they at least sold umd players, or official psp 2 tv devices, or other devices that used umd, they might take off. If they sold blank umd's & umd burners, the market might just explode! ...Maybe not. I mostly use mine for portable emulation, GAT: LCS with cool cheatsync codes, also some of the games are cool too (PQ, Lumines, & a few others). Just waiting for the GPS device so I can use it for Geocashing, maybe they'll use it for some oddball homebrew games (GPS pong! ???)

Is it true that sony made the psp emulate the clasic systems(snes, nes, sega genesis) on porpuse,or is it just a hack someone made to emulate them? And about the no more videos for psp,my neighbor is crying

Uh, you have to hack the firmware, download an emulator, and run it. The only thing an unmodified PSP has to do with emulating old systems is it's powerful enough to be capable of it.

I recently downgraded my PSP from 2.6 to 1.5 using the new downgrader that uses the GTA exploits and accesses kernal mode.

And I use my psp pretty much all the time now. I rip movies from dvds, and play them using the PMP media player - and of course, I play loads of SNES and GBC games on it too.

I'll just say this.

I STILL find it highly amusing that the PSP's most touted feature continues to be "It plays its' competition's games really really well."

And I'm sure that Sony really feels guilty about people picking up that console for one specific purpose.

It's easy as hell to pirate PSP games as well. Sony didn't think that one through at all.
