Yeah, so I was just wondering what the EXT. port on the bottom of the original SNES does? I remember hearing about a cd device that never was released, any other uses?

Yeah, the original Playstation was a SNES add-on, but Nintendo scrapped the idea, because they didn't want SONY to get in on thecvideogame market. That's the original use for the EXT port, AFAIK.
I don't think anything at all actually uses the port now... although it is active and usable, according to qwerty's SNES hardware doc. |

I thought that was for the Super Famicom only.

Well most systems have EXT. ports. The Genesis had one that ended up being used for the Sega CD.
Even the original NES had one. It just required you to cut through two plastic henges to get to it. Though it ultimately did nothing I think. |

Come to think of it, the DS is the first system I know of that doesn't have any such port. (The GBA slot doesn't count. )

Originally posted by HyperMackerel talking of this, something strange happened on my DS, my GBA cart wasn't inserted propely and the DS claimed it was a 'DS extension card' or something like that... |

ooooh.
That's an interesting possibility - add more room to a DS game by inclkuding an expansion card! |

They already do that, such as the rumble pak included with Metroid Pinball. |
