Comes with the new HL episode, and it looks really, really nice.

I suck at FPS games, especially on PC. However, I wouldn't mind playing this.

Interesting enough, it's based off the 2005 game made by some Digipen College students, called Narbacular Drop.

Much as I am not a particular fan of its genre, this looks really sweet. I know a lot of people are getting excited about it who haven't been excited about a videogame in years, if not decades, Woo.

I've been playing quite a bit of Prey lately. If you guys haven't yet, and are liking what Portal is about I'd say its worth trying it. It has the portal stuff (you just don't have control over it like this), and then there's the walking on ceilings and upside down and funked up gravity that makes the game ... very unique.

As for this, what more can I expect from Valve? This looks insanely cool. Simply said.

Edit: There's also these cool parts in Prey where you get in a ball-like spaceship, and can control it in every axis ... the setting and feel it gives off totally reminds me of Descent. If anyone here has actually played those games.

At this point, I may have seen this, what, like about 15 times already? Yes, it's really that awesome. D:

Now, if Valve decides to release an editor to make levels for this game, that'd be the most awesome thing, ever.

I really wouldn't be surprised, that or we could end up with something like this in Garry's Mod, or a Garry's Mod specifically for this or something.

It just seems like to me, it would be obvious to have an editor for this. Just looks like the whole point is to have your own imagination with it.

I'm sure they'll provide an editor of some kind, most all high quality FPS titles have an editor these days and it wouldn't make sense for a game like this NOT to have one. (Theres just too much potential there, so many possibilities.)

Yeah looks fun, oh and kario its coming to ps3 and 360 along with a pack that comes with hl2, ep2, portal, and tf2. Should be good but ill stick to ma pc

It does look fun but according to valve its only ment to be a mini game so hopefuly someone mods the gun into normal hl2 and its episodes that would rock

Oh and is it just me or where there no enemys in that trailer other than the auto guns? I hope its not just a puzzle solving minigame with no combat

I hope it isn't simply a minigame.. That'd be a terrible disappointment.. The lack of combat isn't a big deal, its focus obviously appears to be about puzzles and mind benders, and that's half of what makes it so fun. Besides, we saw security drones in there, so I suspect there will be creative things to kill the player, whether or not he can fight back directly.

I think the game is going to be mostly puzzles, and let me assure you, at first the physics will seem crazy as hell coming out of those portals. You keep your original inertia, and then are put in another area where you're facing a different direction, and gravity is probably pulling on you from a different direction as well.

The Narbacular Drop game is free, you can download it and play it off the Wikipedia link that I posted. You play as a Princess (Named No-Knees) who cannot jump, and was captured, with the spirit of the mountain she is trapped in trying to help free her by allowing her to create portals.

Probably the most annoying feature in Narbacular Drop though, is the fact that there was metal panels just about everywhere, and you can't create a portal ontop of them. The only real enemies are rolling boulders, but you can put them through portals like shown in Portal.

Interesting game, I definately suggest trying it out as sort of a preview of what the gameplay can do, and I do believe that Prey costs money.

Looks very interesting. Thanks for the info Shadic.

This looks to be another example of why Valve is the most inspirational producer of FPS games around. (If only they would stop taking user mods, fucking them up, then charging the public to play them)

If your not a fan of the fps genre, it's probably because you've only sampled some of the countless generic FPS games constantly being released for the consoles.

Play FPS games on a PC. Buy HL 2.

Of...Course there will be an editor for Portal...
There already IS one...

Apparently, it is a Half-Life 2 mod, and as we all know (Or at least mappers like me know), Half-Life and Half-Life 2 use a program called Valve Hammer Editor to edit/create maps (.bsp's) and such.

They also will more then likely release the SDK (Software Development Kit), as they do for EVERY game they release, and also the FGD (Forge Game Data file) which allows it to show its custom entitys and such in VHE.

If anyone cares, I map myself, and I am great at it and such, but things like this take a lot of practice and learning, and even then patiance to make maps.
It took me 2 years to learn everything I needed to make maps, so if anyone is considering making maps for Portal, I suggest you start learning VHE for Half-Life 1, and then moving on to the special version for Half-Life 2.

---

This looks amazing. Good thing I got that PC that already runs HL2 at 300fps solid over at my other house

I will most likely download Episode 2(Accompined with Portal) though, or steal it from Wal-Mart

That's really cool :p. Would be even nicer if it was an actual weapon in HL2 and not just an extra mod though.

I've been itching to play it since the video came out, already beat Narbacular Drop. (I follow DigiPen too religiously sometimes.) Kinda dislike that it'll be with episode 2, since I have little to no interest in Half Life anymore. And yeah, like Xeo said, Prey will hold you over, it's ten shades of awesome.
