| I, being a big Final Fantasy fan, am very disappointed at how the new games are coming out. The new characters and character design is good, but they are, in my opinion, butchering the battle system. Yeah, I'll still buy the new ones, but I doubt that they will be anywhere as good as the older titles. | |||

| Basically, Final Fantasy is just a name Square uses to sell thier latest games now. For whatever games have the biggest budget they get Nobuo Uematsu to do a score for. Then they throw in some FF flavor and slap the Final Fantasy name on the package. | |||

| Sounds like a classic case of the conservative syndrome. The gameplay mechanics in the franchise were hopelessly retarded (In the more literal sense) up until 10, when they started thinking "Hey, maybe we should start pushing the concept forward a bit instead or rehashing the same old shit cleverly disguised under a different fantasy world".

| Now that you mention it, Kasdarack, that is what they seem to be doing. For instance, Final Fantasy: Dirge of cerberus, is pretty much the furthest from what I would epect from Square. | |||

| Personally, I think its been going down hill since it went 3D. Cloud is a pansy who stole someone elses life. VIII was a big circle. It would be like playing Mario, and finding out the only was to save Princess Peach is to back in time and give Peach to Bowser, so you can save her again. Nothing beats the old NES ones. | |||

| VII, it started down the path of bad. VII was a good game, don't get me wrong, but there was no fantasy in it. Then look at VIII: hell, they didn't even use the Final Fantasy prelude until the credits where they just threw it in (or was it game over). IX took a step in the right direction by going back: it was like III, IV, and VI all rolled into one big orgy. Sadly, due to the fact that the PlayStation titles sapwned new fans, IX did relativly poorly. Thus, X was a strange mix between the two.
I've noticed Square's trend: they were making many games, whatever they thought would work: everything couldn't hold up. Then on their last legs, they tried their hands at RPGs. Voila, instant success! 10 years later, they've gotten horrible with them. But look! Kingdom Hearts is doing better! I know! Let's change Final Fantasy to play just like them, and all further RPGs!!! And I've absolute hate for the new artist. If you haven't noticed, every single Final Fantasy character past VII (IX exempt thank goodness) looks exactly the same, even malexfemale characters. Remove their hair and look: same fucking people |

| Even though I've read bad opinions about the battle system, Final Fantasy XII got a perfect score of 40/40 by Famitsu. That leads us to one of two possible conclusions:
- The game is really, REALLY good; - Famitsu were bought off.  |
