Wow. All four nations had ideologically similar governments during the 1930s o.o

Winning or losing isn't a thing of "deserving it". It is doing it when it comes to the world stage.

Still. France. WTF?

They looked so terrible during the qualifiers!

Zidane finally started taking his steroids at the right time. XD

Whoever wins between Germany and Italy should be the favorite... unless France wipes the floor with Portugal.

I think I'm on les blaus now, they won me over with that performance against Brazil. Also their fans at the pub I was at, as well as being unnaturaly attractive, were in awesome voice with the singing and stuff.

Devestating for England though. I didn't realise there were even any Portuguese people in Sydney, but apparently there are, and it seemed like they were all out on George Street acting like wankers to my sad English friends after the game.

Unfortunately, I missed France vs Brazil. (I had to go see Click with a friend. It was the saddest movie ever.) Could anyone be a major help, and enlighten me as to the outcome of said game? Score n' all?

Thank. THANK YOU FOR ADDING OH SO MUCH

I ADORE YOUR INPUT.

Needless to say that was quite the surprise as stated before.

I'm wondering what is going to happen in the Italy v. Germany match. That is going to be awesome. France v. Portugal...eh. Neither of the teams has wowed me til' now. But it'll be a nail biter to see which one is going to be the winner in this test of who can suck less.

No, he said he still wants to stay on and I assume that's for Euro 2008 qualifying/the tournament itself.

It just means someone else will be captain from now on but it's made the news almost everywhere since Beckham is the face of England.

I'm thinking he didn't really step down, as much as he knew that McClaren would select a new captain once he became head coach. I'm predicting quite a few changes in the team. McClaren will pretty much have to adopt a more attacking style of play to show skeptics that he is something else than Eriksson. Certain players (*cough*Hargreaves*cough*) will see a lot less playing time, and I also predicted that McClaren would choose a new England captain, something he has been forced to do now.

Edit: So, with van Nistelrooij already hating Cristiano Ronaldo, and Rooney now stating that he's never playing with Ronaldo again, who's willing to bet that Man Utd will be one Portugese player short next year?

I'd think the opposite with Hargreaves given how fantastic he was against Portugal. If anything you try to see if he can work in the new system because he deserves another shot. And besides, guys like him and Lennon might be taking over from Beckham.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid I'm guessing. And probably for a good price too, if they don't do a player swap.

And to show NO day is boring in soccer... The Greek FA was suspended by FIFA today for government interference in the sport. You know, England, Canada's not doing anything on August 16, when you were supposed to face Greece...

Hargreaves was great against Portugal, yes, but he's not at all popular among English fans (since he's a Canadian playing in Germany, he ain't really English enough for them). Eriksson has played Hargreaves a lot, and I'm guessing McClaren will boot him out to try to distance himself from Eriksson.

I read the news a while ago, and, well, I think you can guess what the Norwegian media focused on. If Greece doesn't get around to changing their rules, all we have to do to qualify for the Euros is placce second in a group consisting of Turkey, Bosnia, Hungary, Moldova, and Malta. Something which shouldn't be too hard.

Well, logic states that you don't drop someone who won Man of the Match in his last game. McClaren will probably name him in the future squads but might not play him as much... I dunno. But he probably deserves one more chance to silence the critics.

The problem with the suspension is that nobody knows when it will be resolved. I mean, they're already going to have to give a walkover in the Intertoto Cup and if the top teams aren't in the Champions League... well, there'll be more chances to advance for the small teams I think. That'll be tricky. As for the Euros, I would just drop Greece and fasttrack Montenegro's FA application, then put them in Greece's spot. They'll get some good experience right off the bat.

The England/Portugal game was depressing. England outplayed them, without a doubt... their one man Ronaldo team got very old. His fake falling and framing made me want to stab him. I mean, COME ON. The only way he looks good is when he makes the other team look bad?
I can't believe Rooney got a red card for that... it looked completely accidental from the angle they kept showing. And Beckham... leaving the game 50 minutes in? What kind of captain does that? Argh.
I guess I'll be rooting Germany ftw, even though they aren't my team.

A captain who's going to be out for 4-6 weeks due to an injury. Trust me, he wouldn't have gone off if he felt he could still play.

I still don't know if he meant to or not. He should be suspended either way but I'd go with 1-2 games if it was unintentional and maybe 4-5 if it was.

How did Beckham get hurt? Nothing happened to him in the game... By the looks of it, it just seemed like fatigue, which I thought was pathetic... as the captain he of all people should just deal with it. But eh, if there's something I don't know, I could be a little more forgiving.
