Haha, that's why I have layouts completely disabled

Installing a new network card does not usually increase the speed that you can connect to the Internet, since even a 10 Mbps card is faster than almost all home Internet connections. Higher speeds means you can transfer information faster, on the same network.

Yes, if someone didn't mention it already, if you have dial-up adding in an Ethernet card is not going to increase the speed. Now if you have a cable modem to compliment that ethernet card then you would almost instantly see a speed increase. It also helps to never ever install America Online, as they are the center of all evil in the universe.

Not usually, about the slowest cards and integrated chips around are 10Mbps, whereas cable internet is usually only from 128 Kbps to 8 Mbps (depending on your ISP of course). Even the fastest cable connections wouldn't have a significant increase in speed. Not to mention that those high Internet speeds are sometimes wasted because the servers you're getting information from have an upload rate to you much smaller than your alloted bandwidth.

Well I kind of meant if he was upgrading from an existing dial-up connection. I should be more specific next time.

I'll repeat what FreeDOS just said:

Buying a new ethernet card will not make the internet faster. Go to your Internet Service Provider and buy a faster connection if you want to make your internet faster.

Dial-up is a way to connect to the internet.

lololol and IE are browsers that connect to the internet through the internet conenction. The faster the connection, the faster lololol and IE can get a web page.

Therefore, if you have dial-up, IE and lololol will not be able to get data as fast.

Get a real internet connection. dial-up sucks.

the only time it is better is when your DSL connection is being hogged up by someone else in the family who constantly downloads large files I tried playing an online game with my friend and I had a ping of 600 on DSL, and 230 for dialup

Whoa... Back whenm I played starcraft, I had low pings... 200-300 were most common, with a few ~500ms pings as well for other people.
