I all happend so fast that I dont remember most of it. But By then I had only about 23 freinds in a school of over 800 students. On the last day of school The people who used to be my freinds treated me like crap.So by now I am thinking about what I am going to be treated like in high school this august. Maby I will have more freinds then i did when I was popular or be one of the people whou gets treated like crap. Any advice about the next school year?

Best advice I can think of -- don't take anybody too seriously, and remember that chances are other people are having their own troubles too. Expect some weirdness.

If you feel you're being treated like crap, confront people about it. But don't take that crap seriously -- chances are it's likely over something stupid and petty and not worth worrying about.

My advice is not to worry about it. Being sociable is about having fun, not about cliques or how many people you know. People tend to take that shit too seriously in high school.

If your friends turn around and treat you like shit for no good reason, that is their fault, not yours. If your friends constantly do that... Then it's time to find new friends.

23 friends is not a bad number of friends if they're real friends and not just accquaintances.

Yeah, honestly... I have only a handful of people at school that are good friends. Plenty of acquaintances, but not people I'd consider friends.

You should remember that it's not quantity, it's quality. If you have just a few really good friends, you'll be fine. Don't take the kids that are being rude too seriously, it isn't worthwhile to try and forge some sort of friendship with them. High school can be a lot of fun if you're able to block out the drama that surrounds you and focus on the friends you do have.

When I first went from Grade 8 to 9, I was in the same shoes as you. However, if you're in a city like mine, then you will know that it won't just be kids from your school that continue on with you...there will be kids from many other schools in your region that go to your high school also. If you think the kids in your old school are...well, idiots to put it bluntly, then try to talk to the people from the other schools. I did this, and I made a handful of good friends.

Don't worry about Grade 8 and 9 and stuff....worry about your education. Of course it's good to have friends (obviously) but if you only end up having a few, and the rest hate you, don't worry. By the time you finish high school, all the people who hate you, you will never see again.

23 friends is way more than i ever had at any single moment in time.

My advice would be to not take any shit. Simply dont put up with it. Dont allow people to treat you poorly, stand up for yourself. Anyone who is treating you like shit is not your friend anyway, so why try to kiss up to them and be nice? Put them in their place just once and you'll at least get respect if not friendship, and probably wont be treated that way again. But really, you got 23 friends! Thats more than anyone really needs anyway.

My advice is don't worry about "friends" on a larger scale. Its helps to be on "good terms" with people and have lots of acquantences though but its more important to build up some close friends too. The raw number of friends you have in general shouldnt really matter. Remember: quality not quantity

As everyone else said, if by 23 friends you mean actual friends(people you hang out with outside of school by choice), you're in good shape regardless.

As for high school though, my only advice is as follows:

Don't rush to judge and don't assume anything. I've eliminated some of my current best friends on sight because they didn't seem to be the sort of people I'd like or because I'd heard something about them that didn't speak well. Example, I've been tagged for appearances as everything from a skater to a goth and one of my best friends tends to get shoved under the preppy and trendy tag. Try and imagine that walking into Starbucks for a frappacino and then going to kareoke later on.

Don't pay any mind to what anyone says about you. High school is a land of exaggerations and bullcrap. People will assume the worst possible thing on the smallest possible clue 90% of the time. I've had people assume I'm easy just because I kissed my boyfriend to say hello and goodbye, and they were only little pecks. Don't take any crap, but don't let the he says/she says get to you.

Put your education first. Unless you're not doing your work to go meet the rep of a college, it's not worth it. That party/concert/movie isn't worth it. Odds are it's going to be a bunch of high school drama anyway. Go for it only if you can make time for it after classes. It's twice as hard to balance school and other stuff in high school.

Go to as many clubs or sports or whatever as you can. There's a 2 week period where everyone is coming and going from everything to try and figure out what they like and where they want to stay. Find people that like what you do and branch out your interests some. I recommend community service type clubs. Not only do you get a hugh assorment of people to get to know and an awesome thing to slap on a college resume, but it's a great way to blow off some stress and steam (Try being ticked when you're giving toys to homeless kids and orphans or when you're collecting money for people with blood cancers, heck, try being upset when you're making cards for the elderly in a nursing home) Awesome way to remind yourself that it can ALWAYS get better and that you're not in the worst position.

Overall, be yourself. I've learned that it's miserable to try to fit into an image and that you deny yourself of so much when you do. Don't be afraid to stand beside what you like and what you believe. Don't be shy, everyone looks/feels retarded - it's the human condition. Do what you want, but stay out of trouble and don't be foolish. As long as you don't come home dead, drunk, drugged or with crapped grades, it's all good. Friends will come to you and nothing else will matter.

Nah. High school is easy. You can sleep through it and make b's. Yes, you should still make it a point to do well in your classes and develop good study/homework habits, but make it a big point to have fun too. You're only a teenager once, you should enjoy it as much as you can. You'll never have that few responsibilities ever again.

I consider anything less than an A a failure and all my classes have been AP or AP prep since I started high school.

Most people consider that a snip extreme, but I've always held myself to that standard because I wanted to impress my father and because I've never had much skill in the social or athletic arenas. I'm an academics and arts person.

Plus, everyone that I've seen snooze through high school seems to regret it and with the rest of the world's academic efforts rising, it's going to be a pain to try to compete for a decent living.

Oh! Something else I forgot, start thinking about a major for college and applying for scholarships first thing! You don't have to pick a major and stick with it, but it helps to have classes that show in that major for college and the more money you can suck out of other people, the less you have to cough up for college. I seriously wish I'd picked mine earlier. I have a year left to be sure and get all the scholarships I can, but it feels like a rush already.

Wow. I would have almost the opposite advice.

Not that grades are meaningless either, but I've never really cared. I slept through most of my classes, slid into a 3.0, and got into the best in-state college around, which is all I could afford without mountains of scholarships.

My advice on grades would be to remember them, but don't overemphasize them. You will make mistakes, I guarantee that; What is important is not wether you make the mistake or not, but wether you learn from it and don't repeat it. Life isn't a set of zero sum games, nor is it a race to the best GPA or the highest salary. I know several relatively poor people *Think bottom middle class, teachers and stuff) who I can honestly say are living a better life than I am right now. They don't have much, but they are awesome people who surround themselves with other awesome people and do awesome things.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you want to keep your options open by having a good GPA, but make sure you enjoy your time too.

Ever see the movie Fight Club, or read the book? You are not your GPA. You are not the number of friends you have.

The movie has a very good point, I suppose. It's about learning and figuring out what you like.

I'm a nerd to almost the highest sense. I study six or seven foreign languages by choice, read anything I can get my hands on and I want to stay in school the rest of my life because I enjoy the learning so much. That's the bit about AP though, it's not for everyone.

Take the hardest classes you can without murdering your GPA and all your free time. That's the beauty of high school, I guess. It's the first time you get a chance to customize your education. Don't like gym? Fill out the credits you need for it and kiss it goodbye? Love math? Take all the classes for it you can.

I recommend AP classes to anyone who likes learning because, for me at least, it's been the first real challenge I've had in school. I dislike the people who take it because of the quality point though. Most colleges don't even accept it anymore. Still, I have to admit that slacker classes can be fun. I had a blast with Communications Technology, which is a class centered around video technique and production at my school.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing inherently wrong with having a 4.0. If that's what you love to do, or if it's that easy for you, then enjoy it. It's just not for everyone, and definately not for me.

AP classes were a waste of my time and effort.

You tend to miss out on well rounded social skills at private schools and in AP classes. Plus I didn't learn a damned thing in any of them. AP English was a joke.

Anyway, all I was saying is that grades are not the most important thing in high school. Worry about grades in college. High school is for learning social skills and how to interact. It's also about enjoying the last of your childhood.

Well, if your 23 friends treat you like crap, maybe you need new ones? Personally, I still hang out with two or three kids from my middle school. All of my other friends I met in Highschool. If you have multiple Middle Schools, you'll make new friends. Even if you didn't, I'm sure you'll meet new people, I mean, new classes bring new faces, bring new aquaintances, bring new friends.

Very true

Ive got about 6 of the greatest friends Ill probably ever have, and a 4.07 average (AP classes do wonders for your GPA )

You can easily pull off a social life and a full class schedule if you want. Besides, some of my new good friends I met in my higher level classes, and the last things we talk about are homework and grades.

Everything in school, and life is balance. Dont let your social life push your grades to the back-burner, but dont let your grades kill any chance at a social life you may have. And most importantly, relax a bit. You cant control every aspect of your life, and some things do work better if you let nature run it's course.
