And still not further than 1/8 Finals. So, no parties here.

But the arrival of our Nati was a big party. Everyone was and still is pround here. And we gonna fuck you all in the EM! (Hopes up, don't think it'll happen).

Yeah, those. Was a big buzz here about a stadium in Zürich. All those objections.

I don't, but that just SOUNDS like a bondage flick.

PP: The world SO needs a word for the round before quarterfinals. "Eighthfinals" just doesn't sound right.

Actually, you could have called that round the "Second Round" or "Round of 16" or even "First Knockout Round".

I've NEVER heard the Euros be called the EM.

Well, they don't call it EM in English, of course, but in German it is (as far as I remember) Europameisterschaft (EM) and Weltmeisterschaft (WM) for World Cup.

We keep dividing the numbers in Norwegian. The first knockout round is "åttendelsfinale" which means 1/8-final, or one eight final. The round before that would be 1/16-final, or one sixteenth final, etc. etc. Only problem is, the English words for 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 sound lame.

Eighth-final sounds pretty bad, I'd have to agree.

I like the 1/8 system since it's easy to understand but still...

Yeah, 1/8-Finals and so on (Achtelfinals in German).

Sorry that I wrote EM, as it's common here and seldom read something about sports in english.

So I was looking at that other thread about the World Cup being rigged.... Well, all I can say is that's a really interesting line-up there.

The German lineup in that report is pretty weak and I'd be surprised not to see Maxi start for Argentina. Plus the attendance - 23,000 - is absolutely impossible.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was a match report for a dry run - they've had youth teams play some simulated matches to make sure security/the field/etc. is fine.

Meh. Ukraine is beat.

For a first time showing it was a good run.

We've got four years to train and learn from what we did - right and wrong.

Jeeze, that Argentina/Germany game was intense. I turned it on right when Argentina scored, and watched all the way til the penalty kicks. I definitely think that Argentina got screwed over, having to use a second string keeper to defend the shootout... that's pretty crappy luck. But you gotta hand it to the German keeper, he was amazing. How he read every single shot... was awesome.
Very very good game.

Now I'm suuuuuper excited for the England/Portugal game tomorrow. GO ENGLAND!

GO ENGLAND

Argentina made a big mistake by subbing out Riquelme. Unless he was hiding an injury, it was stupid because he's their go-to guy when it comes to playmaking. He can easily change the face of the game with a single kick. Can't argue about the goalie thing because their top goalie did get hurt (rib injury?), so...

Ziff: Well, you were still in it up until it was 3-0. Once that third goal was hit, so were Ukraine's hopes.

It was a shame Riquelme wasn't there for the penalty shootout, what with his ability to convert all the important penalties he shoots at Jens Lehmann.

It was fun to see, though, how Argentina's goalie was injured, but still able to keep trying to play. He was standing up, everything was close-to-ok. Then, 10 minutes later, when he realized he had to be subbed since the inury was worse than he thought, all of a sudden he has lost the ability to stand up, to walk, and he is in a world of pain. He needs a stretcher now! Pathetic attempt at time-wasting, it really annoyed me.

Quote Hernan Crespo: "We did not like that they were jumping up and down during the penalty kicks. There was a lot of tension."
Great going, Argentina! The perfect excuse to start a riot after the match. Really showing yourselves as good losers there. Shameful, really.

Ballack was flopping around like a fish at a few points. THE CAPTAIN! *holds head*

During the penalty shootout, Argentina had Crespo, Riquelme, Saviola and Messi all on the bench. Oy.

Oh please, it was a penalty shootout, expecting people to stand still is silly. There is no excuse for what the Argentinians did, and I hope FIFA cracks down on them harshly.

Oh. Dear Me, the world has ended. England have been knocked out.
*gives a broad smile* AT LAST!!!!

Ok so perhaps I'm harsh but seriously, I'm sick of "how great the team is" being rammed down our throats and we're not even English!, seriously, it's beyond a joke now - that bunch of overpaid sissies don't deserve the press coverage - now Rugby, THERE'S a decent game... Anyway....

That said I think they deserved to beat Portugal, only because Portugal's playacting and diving was getting on my nerves and the fact they held Portugal off for an hour with one man down.

Rooney turned out to be a spoilt brat, but the sending off was a little harsh..

Errickson should have taken more strikers.

Oh and Penalties and England never mix.

Hope Wales win Euro '08 (Yeah right )

England played fantastic considering they were down a man.

The Rooney thing... One angle makes it look like it was a total accident and another one looks fishy. I dunno. Shades of 1998.

And this has turned into Euro 2006 because Brazil... ARE OUT! o___O

Germany/Italy vs. Portugal/France in the final.
