So... I was sick all night (Murphy's Law?) and had to work at my job earlier than I was supposed to.

Anyway, I don't know how I could conclude that I could have released it by today...Maybe I was blinded by the pressure to meet the deadline. The truth is that I simply cannot release the editor in its current state.

In other words: Not Today (again)

So I guess your question is "When?"

I said I won't announce any other precise release dates until it's ready to be released. Don't worry, it won't be canceled or pushed by a month. It is really close to be finished, much more than the original version was. I mainly have to fix bugs, add some very little features, add descriptions and the mechanism to save and load them. I also have to design a way to bundle the Text editor and ROM editor without duplicating the run-time engine. Documentation have to be written, and the web page has (yet) to be created.

Let's say about a week should be the maximum, but I don't guarantee it (I'm pretty sure it will be under a week, but I don't want you guys to get all hyped again)

It was going to be a rushed release, now it won't be. I'll try to debug it as much as I can so you won't act as guinea pigs.

I'll try to make a web page for the editor tonight or tomorrow (or whatever day, don't count on it until you see it). I may also release a little movie soon of the editor in action, so you have something more tangible than screenshots to chew on.

To summarize, there will be a delay of about a week, but it shouldn't be more than two. Ideally it should be out by next saturday, but don't base your life on this, it could be later too.

In the mean time you could either, discuss what you want to do with the editor, or how about going outside, take a walk in a park and relax?

Screw that. Just put them in an INI file that people can edit.

Why an INI file? It'll be saved in an external .txt file. Yes you'll be able to edit the file manually. What did you expect? That I wanted to use some crazy proprietary format?

The point is to have this easy to share file that people can send me so I can update the main release.

Inside the file, on even lines, you'll find the description text, and on odd lines, values that uniquely identify the descriptions.

We don't care how long we have to wait, as long as it is quality!

Keep Woking on it, don't stress out and have a rest when you need it

Anyway, when you upload it, is it going to be in a zip file (or similar), or an exe file straight for download? The reason I ask this is that I don't have internet at home right now, and my work's internet wont let me download exe files, but will let me download compressed so...

Well, I plan on editing the outside to include loads of enemies and idiotic things like trees blocking paths off... If thats possible

Text, INI, same deal. I'm just saying there's no need to have an editor in your program if we can just edit the file manually, unless it has some really complicated format.

There's not many objects outside the castle, and you can't add objects you know!!

You should be able to. The video showed a lot of yoshies and goombas and the number of trees was the same, I don't think there's a reason you can't add or delete objects...

Why you don't just check this thread frequently no matter if the editor doesn't come out in 3 weeks? that way when you see the editor you'll say OMG is the editor!! XD

The first thing I'm going to do with the editor is make a 3-d maze box (kinda like the one in SMRPG in the sunken ship) and make my friend get lost in it )

Then I'm going to create places where you must glitch through walls to get a star.

THEN I'M GOING TO OPEN ALL OF THE BLACK ROOMS OF DEATH IN THE GAME!!!!!!!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
...AND THEN CREATE MORE!!! (evil laugh again, but longer)

Do you guys think that you will be able to add Brower to any place, say outside the castle and change the text he says? Or make new pathways in the castle leading to new levels?

VL already told us many times that you will not be able to add objects in the first release!!

That would make the editor completely useless, I would prefer to wait even a whole month more rather that not being able to add and delete objects and enemies. ì_í
Levels would be exactly the same only with moving a few enemies around, if we could add enemies then it would be another thing. More enemies=more fun!

Do you guys think that you will be able to add Brower to any place

No, I think he might load the wrong textures or appear glitched or simply crash

change the text he says?

There's an editor that changes the text: http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=4310

Or make new pathways in the castle leading to new levels?

If you mean put a picture in a random place that leads for example to the castle garden then yes, if you mean to make for example a corridor then no.

You can change objects into other objects, so if you want more enemys then change all coins into enemys!! I think you can move ground parts (like plattforms and stones etc.) so you could make complete new levels with the Bowser levels!!

i think the fact the editor is going to be a beta suggests reasoning behind the whole lack of functions..none of which will be an issue. think of it this way... u get to edit existing objects making the levels completely different (think new islands in bob-omb battlefield) and any issues we come across while trying out this awesome editor will no doubt be collected and fixed by vl-tone in the next version. Mario 64 is a massive game in comparrison to the stuff we're all used to editing so this'll give us a chance to get used to object manipilation and how all the editor functions work. then when it gets updated the new hacks released will become far superior... hopefully :|

looking forward to it VL-Tone keep it up but don't worry about the delay

and what if I want to make a bridge of red ! blocks? that's impossible without the add button...
But yeah, It's just a beta, I'll wait until this feature is in the editor (but please, make it soon, I can't do anything withouth an adding and deleting things! T-T)

EDiT: Mario129, welcome but you are in the wrong thread http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=5193&page=3
