Alrighty.

Being the lover of RPGs that I am, I decided to pick this up when it first came out and didn't really pick it up to play it until 2 weeks ago.

And holy shit, how I regret not playing it sooner. It's such a good game! It has such an amazing story.

And well, there's no thread for it here. WHY NOT?!

Surely I'm not the only one out there who bought it?

Or maybe I am. And the reason for that would be Suikoden IV/4, which was a terrible game. If you're burned out of the series b/c of that game, have no fears, b/c suikoden v really is amazing!

That's all. XD

I haven't played a whole lot of Suikoden 5 but from what I've played I like it. It brings back the old feeling of Suikoden 1 and 2.

Another plus about 5 was that Georg was in the game. I loved using him in Suikoden 2 and I was glad to see him back.

I play RPG's mostly for the characters and dialouge so i have much love for Suikoden V. After Suikoden III and IV i was shocked at the quality of the writting and overall qualilty of the game. With the many hip, cheesy, and metrosexual infested poop RPG's out for the PS2 i was about to give up on anything besides Nintendo RPG's.

It's a shame that the game didn't get more attention. It wasn't supprising to me though that most people dont like to venture too far from the typical FF/DQ style RPG.

Suikoden V is by far one of the best console RPG's I've played in a very long time. The character development, storyline, playout of the game ... it all felt similar to both Suikoden I and II, so I really liked it a lot (Suikoden II remains as my favorite RPG when it comes to plot). I know Suikoden III is supposed to have possibly the strongest plot of the series, but its the gameplay that really bored me. I just couldn't stand the battle system, watching the camera switch positions every 5 seconds, and taking for what it seemed like 10 minutes to finish a single battle, so I just decided I'll eventually read the manga instead. But V's battle system, is just like I and II, so its pretty basic, and fun at the same time.

And it had some of the most emotional scenes I've seen in any game, ever.

Sadly, I have yet to beat it though. We moved, and I haven't been able to hook up any of my systems for awhile now (I could, but I'm being lazy and waiting to get a big shelf for for all of them). I did get pretty far into the game, I was around either 40 to 50 hours.

The returning characters were pretty cool and exciting, and seemed just like they were in Suikoden II.

Once I get my systems all hooked up again, I play on getting back into this game and finishing it.

Schweiz oder etwas

I'd be more agreeable about V if I played it, but since I have it I have very little to contribute to the thread, save for this one statement:

I fail to see how Suikoden III had poor writing.

Suikoden 3 was decent but it seemed that they where trying to take it down an FF route with the whole "Save the Planet" situation. Also, if you've played Suiko 2 you would probably agree that what they twisted Luc's character into something that just didn't fit.

Anyways, Suikoden 2 was my fav. RPG ever till Suikoden 5. Honestly, i'm not even looking forward to the ps3 but if Suikoden 6 is on the same level of quality as 5 i just might buy one.

Also, Maroon & his music rock

Sadly I don't think I've got Maroon yet. I have the composer though ... (can't remember his name), I liked his battle theme, but it didn't seem like many others did.

there is a manga for this series or some portion of it? any links or do you own copies of it?

i've been meaning to play this series for a while. I started to play 1 and got decently far but my PS1 game save got corrupted and I lost interest in restarting. I just picked up 5 the other day and will probably start playing it soon. so, from the reviews, it seems like I spent my money well.

First thing that comes up at Google.

My friends argue the scenes in the game can bring out more emotion, but I'm sure I'll get just as much out of the manga as I would with the game, in terms of story.

You can find the volumes relatively easy with manga, wherever that may be in your area.

5 is a prequel to the first 4 games of the series so it's a great place to start. Suikoden 1 & 2 had excellent characters and dialouge as well imo but they had some english translation problems from time to time. (especially in the first game)
