Yeah, like the title says, I'm starting on a mod for simgolf that includes graphics and text. My only problem is, I can't think of any good themes besides a space station. Does anyone have any ideas?

Can you change the physics? Golf in space (not in a space station) or underwater could be fun.

I'll go looking for any physics data. So far, I've found Graphics (Tile and golfer), data on the titles and descriptions of the tiles available for each tileset, and ambient lighting, as well as sound.

...Mushroom Kingdom?

That would be hilarious, now that I think about it. The animals could be Goombas or Chain Chomps.

Once you get this done I will want to try it out, of course. A different approach to this would be funny.

Eh.. I can't edit the animals. They use Bink Video files for all of the animations in Simgolf. If anyone knows how to edit said files though, that would be a good plus.

And Hyperhacker: No go on the physics data. all the courses use the same data, and there's no file or it, so I assume that the data is hardcoded into Simgolf's EXE. I like the mushroom kingdom theme, though. That will be my first pick. I'm going to strart small, maybe one tileset remade, lighting and all. After all, to my knowledge this is the first Simgolf mod, so it's not like I have a huge great standard to uphold or anything.

EDIT: googled for simgolf mods. All I found were two mods- one to quiet the belch sound at the snack bar, and one to give the pro golfers real names.

Maybe you could make a course based on Hyrule Field from OoT. Or something weird like golf on a giant baseball field.

PROGRESS!

I downloaded Translhextion, and managed to change the in-game name of "Deep rough" to "Mushrooms".\, by finding the string in the EXE file. The smily-face descriptor broke, and the text disappeared, but I know how to fix the text and I'm about to go looking for the smily face.

EDIT: Wierd... By fixing the mushroom's description, I fixed the smily... Strange, there was no extra byte r anything in the text file for the parkland descriptions...

Also, I found the animal names Changed "Crane" to "Goomba" (Yes, I know there was a one-character difference. Game still loaded fine.)

...I'll expect to see a lot of progress in this. This will get me to play it again... and for a good reason.

I am also wondering if you are going to include some stories and celebrities when you do this mod. While those alone aren't mods, it would be great if you had a character named Mario start a story about how he started beating Bowser. XD

Not a bad idea... I pulled a VB(6? or .NET?) program off the internet that lets me make custom stories, so that's good too.

Fiddled with the character/animals/etc. animations. 240 frames for when the technician is killing divots... ouch.

Perhaps I won't change those for this particular mod... Anyways, started editing the textures used in the 3-D terrain. Started changing the graphics for the deep rough to that of Mushrooms. In MSPaint, so th quality's not the best, but eh.

I'll look up the way to add new random golfers, and make Mario one of them (a pro as well), but that'll all take a bit of time and digging. Eh, it'll get done.

Also, I found a lot of unused graphics. This will make things much faster, since only SOME of all the graphics are used, not all of them.

A Mario-themed SimGolf mod, eh?

This is very interesting, as I've played the hell outta that game.

However, are you sure that Mushrooms would be the greatest replacement for "Deep Rough?" I was thinking more like, keep the grass and everything, change the animals, the characters, the buildings, and do things like make the trees into mushrooms, not grass.

But, it's your mod. Best of luck on it.

Well, the mushroom would have the same effecttn the ball as deep rough. Also, I've be changing little-to-none of the video files for this first mod. Sorry, but I don't want to get hung up manually editing 1000's of frames. Tommy Techinician's action pose (killing weeds) alone took up 240 frames.
