Something he wants, maybe?
Your question is pretty vague; We have no clue what your father is like or what his interests are, and no price range to work with. Just try and get him something you think he will actually enjoy, and not just a useless trinket or something. Price probably won't matter to him as much as the value he holds to the object. EDIT: We can possibly help this guy out, and also possibly save a thread from imminent closure, by giving this thread a useful topic. So how about: "What did YOU get your father for Father's day?" My whole family is pitching in to get him a small traveling golf bag, but I haven't got an individual gift for him yet. (edited by witeasprinwow on 06-16-06 05:10 PM) |

Congratulations, wite just saved your thread.
I don't know what I'm going to get my dad yet, I dread this day all year long. *fixes thread title* |

Originally posted by DanielleYou're not alone. Let's see, what do typical American paternal figures like? Electronics. iPods, digital cameras, cell phones, PDAs, you name it. Sports. Anything football-related should suffice. Golf clubs are also a nice bet, since many American dads enjoy the sport. Hardware goods. For the handyman dad who loves fixing stuff. But remember, the best gift you can give is one you make yourself. After all, it's the thought that counts. (edited by Cirvante on 06-16-06 05:25 PM) |

I think that only works for moms. From experience, things that I make for my mom are FAR more appreciated than things I've made for my dad.

Well, see, that's because dads are generally more materialistic than moms. Mothers are inclined towards more emotional and inspirational gifts; fathers are less open-minded and would just take the gift without even reading the card.
I say, go for the iPod, if he hasn't one already. |

Oh God, I've to borrow some cash from my sis tomorrow to buy him something! I'll pay her back with my birthday money on Tuesday
As well as the usual CD or whatever, there's a mug in my room with 3 handles, and it says 'Dad can handle anything'. He's SO getting that _^_ |

I bought him the Clint Eastwood trilogy: Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Which I kind of want myself, but meh.

I don't think I should get him anything, but then again, I might call him to see if he's still alive or something...I guess its kind of a funny holiday to celebrate for my family ^^;; knowing me I'll give in and make him something, even though he'll hate it regardless. It makes me feel better, I guess, though.

I'm glad my dad is an old school Puerto Rican.
So, if I give him a sombrero and a nice machete he would love it. But I won't get him that. I'll stick to a cake and card since I am broke. Plus he loves cake. Looooooooves cake. |

I ended up making him a charm braclet and I'll write him a little card later...I'll probably mail it off to him soon. When I go home, anyway. (edited by Yoronosuku on 06-17-06 12:31 PM) |

I called him and mostly listened to him grumble grogily, making short replies and constantly questioning why I was talking to him in the first place..it was actualy kind of funny..well, not really. His gift is in the mail. He probably won't like it.

I ended up getting him shorts. Just a little something extra.

Well when your dad has a history of being abusive and hateful, you can only be so cheerful, hm? I thought it was nice I cared enough to talk to him. (edited by Yoronosuku on 06-18-06 09:50 PM) |
