I would assume just an engine test, see if the level gets rendered and what not with the ability to change camera and such. Probably not many editing functions at all, if any.

VL-Tone
So here's a (now reduced) feature list of ToadsTool 64 v1.0b
*Moving, Rotating objects found in all 30 levels. (the x24 objects, the one pointed by the 0x39 command, and the ones after the solidity data)
*Change the object type (change a goomba into a coin for example) using a list of those available in this level.
*Change the object behaviors using a list of those available.
*Change which music track play in a given level. (You cannot edit the music)
*Edit the warp connection commands.(0x26)
*Various camera options like "follow the selection".
*Top Bottom Left Right Front Back camera controls.
*Wireframe mode
*Selection boxes around objects will have the width, height and depth of the polygon object (with a minimum size)
There will be some editing.

You can go back in Vl-Tones post to see whats going to be in the soon after release of the next new version of the editor.

How about we just stop asking questions and wait until the editor gets released.

Ok... I'll try to keep it simple:

First, as of now, the pre-release will be the 21st, not the 18th...

Second, what would be your reaction if there was a small delay of a few days (maximum 4)?

I promise I will keep you updated every single day starting today until the actual release.

Update:

It's hard to admit, but these are still missing in the rewrite as of today:

-3d selection boxes
-Specialized 3d controls to move objects and camera (keyboard and interface widgets)
-Descriptions for items, most of them are now shown as "Unknown".
-Save feature for item description list. (You can save them in memory, but not as a file yet)
-Speed.

Most of this is not hard to implement. The 3d control stuff is much more simple than you would think, it's about moving x,y and z coordinates. The decoding part and interface structure building was much more complicated. Descriptions will take some time to add, but it's the fun part...

This first release will be a collaborative effort in a way because you'll be able to add missing descriptions and take the description list and send it back to me so I can merge it with the main list. Some objects are obvious to describe, but invisible objects with a behavior require more investigation.

Speed will have to be improved especially for the first time you run the program.

In any case, I'm sure many of you will still appreciate what you can do with Toadstool 64 v1.0b when it's released... soon.

i've been waiting for so long for this, and although I want it so much, I would rather it be released in quality and with everything done properly, instead of having it rushed and ending up impossible to use. I would wait another year if I had to!

Keep working on it VL, and don't rush it! Take your time and do it well, not rushed and crap.

Good luck with the last stretch to the editor's first official release!

yeah, I cannot wait until the release, but I would wait another year if I had to! I just want it to be worth downloading, not something that seems like a four year old mucked around with a programming program. Not too hard to grasp is it?!

I have a last-minute question. With the beta version, can we do what VL-Tone did and replace models with others? By that I mean like what he did and change the Yoshies into butterflies type of thing? Like make a game where you play as a Koopa, or a Goomba, or even Bowser?

Honestly I can't see myself using it much until it can edit polygons anyway. Maybe for a simple spoof hack.

You're right there, Hyper. It won't be any hack before you got the polygon-editing. I'm just gonna fool around with it on my own.

Hello you people do not know me but i have been paying attention to this thread for a long time. If you recall Alan Rare and his fake editor story and problems with who was the creator. Or the Luigi And Mod Video on youtube, I was paying attention to all that. All I have to say is Congratrualous VL-Tone for the final days of the editor and don't let nothing stop you!

Same. And also, theres no need to worry if the editor is delayed a few days anyway...afterall, BGNG's F-Zero X track editor is being released on the 21st. So we're getting 2 N64 editors on pretty much the same day/week.

Now that is pretty awesome, and we should think ourselves lucky.

Well, If I undesrstand what you are asking correctly, you are asking if you can play as different things. I would say that there is a problem playing as bowser. If you use some of the Gameshark codes that were listed in this thread, you would realise that when you change Mario's size, he still acts like default mario. You can see this due to the shadow being so small, and that you have to be really close to enemies. This might apply to changing Mario into Bowser. Bowser is much bigger than Mario. On another point, Bowser doesn't use the same moves as Mario, such as Mario can duck and then do a backflip. Have you ever seen Bowser do this? No. So the game would crash as It cannot hiandle Bowser trying to do mario's move. Well, this is an exageration. It just wouldn't be good and may glitch. So in this you would have to code it yourself to disable moves or edit pointers to make it so that Bowser (instead of Mario) breathes fire instead of punching.

This would also apply to Koopas or anything. Mario is the central character, and so is the host of many moves that no other objects/enemies in the game can do.

THis is my understanding of it. In a nutshell. You can make Mario be Bowser, but it would require much coding to do it properly.

PS: Alex Rare is a stupid n00b who should jump off a bridge for trying to nick VL_Tone's (Master of the Universe) editor. Lol - This isn't flaming of course, this is just against a n00b

I myself am waiting for the editor to come out. Oh, I can only imagine how awesome those hacks will be.

A small suggestion:
When you provide a link to other people's posts, keep in mind that different users have different 'Number of posts/threads per page' settings.
You linked to a 'Page 29', whereas with my settings, there's only 9 pages.
You should link it using the actual link (where it says 'Link/Reply').

On-topic: I too cannot wait, but also can wait, for this editor! I'd prefer a good editor which has taken time to build, rather than a 'don't-bother-to-actually-make-a-good-editor-then-release-it-early' editor (like 'LoZ: The Wind Waker' (didn't they miss out a whole dungeon or a few dungeons or something?).
