There's a slight difference between completely covering something up (implying denying it when possible, etc.) and just failing to mention it. It's a guarantee that there are things Jesus did which aren't mentioned in the Bible; supposedly one of the apocryphal books actually had a case where he was suspected as having pushed one of his friends (when he was very young) off a building, for instance. Some things are considered more worthwhile than others, so some (irrelevent to the message) things may get left out.

Supposedly knocked him off. Also supposedly brought him back to life. Naturally, the one who fell said that he didn't do it.
Oftentimes, the myth is more important than the man behind it. Don't forget the most important thing: Jesus was human, as well as divine. Mistakes happen. If you do something that winds up hurting someone, did you intentionally try to do it? It's possible to make mistakes, and people who will persecute for the simplest ones are a reason a lot of the less solidly-grounded things are written in. |

But, if you've been reading this thread, the Gnostic scripts that this whole whack a doo is based on DOES say that Christ was married.

If sex isn't a sin, explain why it is referred to as the "origional sin"?

Jomb,
It is? I thought Adam and Eve eating the apple from the Tree of Forbidden Fruit and disobeying God was the original sin. |

Originally posted by JombIt's not. "Original sin" references Eve's consumption of the forbidden fruit, and Adam's association with the act; simply, the first humans' refusal to obey their creator stands as a crime whose consequences are inherited by all their progeny. Sex was never considered a sin - God told Adam and Eve, quite directly, to be sexually prolific. |

they were also told to be fruitful and multiply even before the forbidden fruit was eaten.... so it was even before they had sinned that sex was encouraged...
my question is this.... why are no children mentioned until after the expulsion from the Garden? did they not know how to have children.... or were they not able to? |

They couldnt in the garden of eden. They didnt even have sex until after they left and God told them to be fruitful and multilply. Childbirth is womans punishment for the first sin.

Sure, I'd like an exact quote. Because that defies any sort of theology I'm familiar with.

Genesis 3:16, the one about women being made subservient and forced to endure childbirth as punishment during the Fall. Men, meanwhile, get to work for their food. It's been a central scriptural justification of mysogyny and gender inequality for the better part of 2000 years.

I'm not sure if sex(in general( is really a sin but Leviticus 15:1-15 said it make you 'unclean':
Discharges Causing Uncleanness 1 The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When any man has a bodily discharge, the discharge is unclean. 3 Whether it continues flowing from his body or is blocked, it will make him unclean. This is how his discharge will bring about uncleanness: 4 " 'Any bed the man with a discharge lies on will be unclean, and anything he sits on will be unclean. 5 Anyone who touches his bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 6 Whoever sits on anything that the man with a discharge sat on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 7 " 'Whoever touches the man who has a discharge must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 8 " 'If the man with the discharge spits on someone who is clean, that person must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 9 " 'Everything the man sits on when riding will be unclean, 10 and whoever touches any of the things that were under him will be unclean till evening; whoever picks up those things must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 11 " 'Anyone the man with a discharge touches without rinsing his hands with water must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 12 " 'A clay pot that the man touches must be broken, and any wooden article is to be rinsed with water. 13 " 'When a man is cleansed from his discharge, he is to count off seven days for his ceremonial cleansing; he must wash his clothes and bathe himself with fresh water, and he will be clean. 14 On the eighth day he must take two doves or two young pigeons and come before the LORD to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and give them to the priest. 15 The priest is to sacrifice them, the one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement before the LORD for the man because of his discharge. kinda odd, really |

In any case, citing the Old Testament as evidence to support any modern Christian claim is a bit of a stretch. In many ways it stands as a sort of law book more than a book of worship, setting guidelines that are so far removed from the modern world that they are essentially obsolete. That's not to say that it has no value - as the first half of the holy text, it is certainly significant - but for a less misleading perception of modern Christianity, the New Testament is what you'll need to use almost exclusively. |
