I was watching a show here called Rove Live last week, and throughout the show, Rove was trying out a bunch of (weird) things that people said they ate with their porridge.
Most people generally put something like honey on their porridge, or salt if you prefer it to be a savoury dish. However, throughout the course of the evening, Rove ate porridge with tomato sauce on it... and with Vegemite on it... Personally I have honey on mine, it's really good. I'd never dream of having Vegemite on it, that's for sure. What do you have with your porridge? |

Hmmm...I haven't had porriage for a few years. If I recall, I would put sugar on top on it, then brown sugar on top of that, then more sugar on top of that. I'm a sugar freak

I like hot cereal, but I don't know if any of it counts as porridge. When I make oatmeal, I let it cool down for a few minutes and put some whey protein powder and Splenda in it (and possibly cinnamon and nutmeg). (Whey protein in blazing hot oatmeal = clumps. Ew.) Lately I've been fond of this Kashi multigrain cereal that comes in packets and is already flavored with either vanilla or cinnamon and honey. I suppose that it's porridge-y, and it's great all by itself.

I usually only eat pre-made oatmeal/porridge, and even then I eat it rarely. :\
Cinnamon and brown sugar. If I eat oatmeal, it's for breakfast so I need that extra little kick. |

I'm in both NSNick and Alastor's positions. Although, on oatmeal, I typically have the maple and brown sugar kind. Does this relate even slightly?

Never had porridge, but I'm guessing it's similar to oatmeal?
In that case, I don't really like oatmeal. There was a vanilla flavored one that I really liked, but I don't see it anymore. When I had that, I didn't put anything on top. |

For you guys who keep mentioning Oatmeal:
In North America, oatmeal means any crushed oats, rolled oats, or cut oats used in recipes such as oatmeal cookies. The porridge made from this is also called oatmeal or oatmeal cereal. "Porridge" is just made by boiling oats, rice, semolina, wheat, or barley (etc) in milk or water. Gruel is a really thin version of porridge. The most common porridge is made with oats. |

It's about as close as you'll get in the stores here.
Although to be fair, there's too many variants of the stuff. Either you pick up plain and add your own stuff or you take your chances with one of two dozen flavors. |

The porridge I usually eat when I have porridge is made of rice and milk, with a little salt added to it. All this is being cooked together on the stove.
When it's done, I add a lump of butter in the middle of it, and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over it. Sometimes we'll also eat salted meat on the side. |

I'm going to go out a limb and liken porridge to oatmeal and say I like bananas, walnuts, and honey in my oatmeal. Also, the recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies on the quaker oats container is totally awesome.
