Official NBA thread strictly because of this thang.

In 42 minutes, Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant racked up:
* 28 field goals (on 46 attempts)
* 7-13 on threes
* 18-20 on free-throws
* Six rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block

More importantly, 81 points. That's second all-time in the Association, behind just Wilt Chamberlin's 100 back in 1962. Kobe scored 55 in the second half. Toronto had just 41. Mike James led the Raptors with, uh... 26.

Also, Seattle beat Phoenix 152-149 in double overtime. Say it with me now, kids: daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn.

Yay!

Finally an NBA thread, because you know, it is needed in January and such.

I think you said it best. "daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn."

Looks like today was a day for the 'defense' to take a break and let the offense run buck wild.

Though I think Kobe could've done this sooner. In the earlier game, where he sat out the fourth quarter and such.

Either that or people were just shooting well instead of driving to the net.

Kobe has 81 wow... after he scored 30+, wouldn't you think they'd start doubling or triple teaming him? it's like, the lakers just sat back and gave Kobe the ball since well, the other team was helpless to stop him

156-149 in double overtime anyone know the combined scoring record for a game?

It was 152 - 149 not 156

Doesn't say the all-time record, but gives some facts though

Kobe plays the Warriors tonight--given how the warriors have played the past two games, I think Kobe will probably run up his performance again

If Kobe does it again...I will eat my shoe.

Oh and the Sacramento Kings got Artest. And lost in their first game with him.

Anybody think this is a good trade or simply 'another explaosiong waiting to happen'?

If it involves Ron Artest, the question really is, do you need to ask?

Speaking of trades, the Celtics dumped Mark Blount on the T-Wolves, along with Jiri Welsch and Ricky Davis, for Michael Olowokandi and Wally Szczerbiak. There's other players involved but I can't be bothered to look them up.

Also, Chris Andersen will not be around to defend his dunk contest appearance fee.

Are they serious? Birdman? He looked more like a KFC chicken wing.

One of the worst performances ever see on a NBA court. Ever.

I felt sorry for him. I mean, I am only five foot five, yet I know damn well sure I probably could've done better in the dunk contest.

I wonder what is sorrier, that or the following statement:

Known as "Birdman" for his high-flying dunks, Andersen [5.0 ppg] was a fan favorite among Hornets fans in Oklahoma City, where the team is playing most of its home games this season.

As for artest, would he belong anywhere in the league?

Kings are 1-2 with artest so far... however, artest is looking playoff bound so, for now, his attitude seems to be good

Toronto unloaded Jalen Rose to the New York Knicks today for Antonio Davis (if he even reports), a first round pick (granted, it's Denver's) and cash. Strictly a salary dump since Rose's salary pretty much crippled Toronto.

Althought to be fair, ever since their 1-15 start the Raps have gone 16-15. So maybe some changes are just what they need. :\

Speaking of Toronto trades, former 1999 first-round pick (#5, actually) Jonathan Bender will retire due to chronic knee ailments. In retrospect, he was a pretty intriguing guy (how many seven-footers do you see playing guard?) who just couldn't stay healthy enough to develop.

For Atlanta, hell is ESPN.com's voting for Rookie of the Year. 20 writers agree: Chris Paul, who wanted to go to Atlanta (and very well COULD HAVE). Us New Orleans/Oklahoma City/Sheboygan, Wisconsin fans thank you, Hawks management, for your ineptitude.

So... uh... anything happen in the NBA?

I'm rooting for Miami. Even though I wanted Dallas to win over the Suns and I basically got my wish in this Finals matchup, I'm hoping Shaq can get another ring and retire.

He doesn't have much left, maybe 2 years or so of decent production.

Plus I want him to prove a point to Kobe and the Lakers franchise.

Even so, I am an inkling that Dallas will win. Thd depth on their side seems greater, the bench as well. Then again, I have not seen Miami pushed to its limits. Not even against Detroit. That series seemed pretty sad.

I think this is going to be a six game or seven game series. Hoping Miami wins.

Phoenix to win in 2007.

I really don't care who wins now... um... I'll go with Dallas since Shaq doesn't need another win.

I'm going with Miami b/c I want Shaq to win without Kobe. *hates Kobe*

Also, I don't want a team from Texas to win because of that stupid phrase "Don't mess with Texas."
