Well thinking the PS3 will replace the PC is insane, I agree... I don't think Microsoft has too much of a point either, look at how Nintendo's remakes and the recent compiliations of old games (Sonic Mega Collection, Midway Arcade Classics, etc.) have sold...

The really ironic thing is the fact that the 360 has some backwards compatibility. Not to mention the classic games available through xbox live.

1. When does a video game system replace a PC? o_0

2. Bull. Shit. People at my school see me with a NES shirt and they wish they could still play it.

And I'll stick with the fact that Wii shows games that appeal to me. The only thing that may appeal to me on the Xbox 360 would be Halo 3 and I know its going to be overhyped like Halo 2. PS3? I see... ummm... nothing, really.

Are you sure about that. My point was that IF Sony decides to sell their games at 60-70 then most likely Nintendo would too. No difference. BUT if Nintendo sells their games at 60-70 and Sony decides to keep them at 40-50. Then the PS3 is actually cheaper.

Lets say you buy 20 games over the lifespan of your console.

PS3 20 games * $50 = 1000 + $600 for console = 1600 total cost games and console

Wii 20 games * $70 = 1400 + $250 for console = 1650 total cost games and console

Let's say you buy fifteen games.

PS3 15 * $50 = 750 + 600 for console = 1350

Wii 15 * $70 = 1050 + 250 = 1300

It's not too hard to make up formulae that support one side over the other.

Besides which, there's something else you've failed to account for. It's a lot easier to afford the initial cost of a Wii - some of us have bills, you know - and afford the PURELY SPECULATIVE (that's right, do any of you actually have a reason to believe it WILL be more, or are you just pulling guesses out of your asses?) $20 extra per game instead of having to save for a couple weeks/months (depending on hours, pay rate, and bills) for a PS3.

Edit: Haha, accidentally contradicted myself. Whoops.

Probably in the $60 range. Can't see the games being more than that but $60 seems to be the new price point for next-gen games.

Nintendo... probably $50 max. MAYBE $40-45 for some first-party stuff.

PS3 uses Blu-ray so you know the discs are going to be expensive. Dunno what Wii uses but probably DVDs, which are cheap.

$70 a game is outrageous. They should be aiming lower than competitors to lure more customers into buying Wii. More games for less money = more fun + more money.

Have you been at Wii's official site? It WILL use DVDs.

And those are incredibly easy to rip to your computer. I wonder if Nintendos games will have some kind of protection.

Are you serious? Regular DVD's? Yikes. Of course Nintendo will have some sort of protection...but these days crackers are destroying all kinds of DVD encryption. I just burned a copy of that new...never mind.

Nintendo has always used proprietary media..wonder why they would take such a risk now, since they are ALL about anti-piracy.

Danielle: Like I said, the games WON'T be sold at $70. There's no reason to do that at all.

It's DVD format so if we're going by what other next-gen consoles are doing, $50 seems like a probable price/game.

Gamecube actually uses mini-DVDs. It just uses a little-known feature to encode an encryption key on the disc, that few drives can read and only a very large expensive machine can write.

You do realize the PS2 and Xbox and the 360 all use regular DVDs too right?

I think the point is how much piracy goes on with those consoles. Even though there is some with the Gamecube, because pirating games on it relies more on external hardware, it's FAR less widespread.

My sourses have told me that the wii will retail for 249.99 and will be released around the first week of november of this year, now the wii isnt nearly as powerfull as the xbBot360 or ps3 but nintendo has never been about the graphix its been about the games, the playability, the FUN they have won my vote

$70 may seem outrageous, but truth of the matter is some SNES and N64 games hit that price back in the day. Being a cartridge was probably a large reason as to why, but yeah.

I'm not really in to the whole console war thing. Why? I'll end up getting them all eventually, because each system is going to have their ups and downs and exclusives, just like the Xbox, GC, and PS2. I already have my 360 and anticipate games like Prey, Gears of War, Halo 3 ... etc.

Price wise though, yes I will probably find myself buying a Wii first because of how cheap it'll be. I just hope Nintendo doesn't get crazy with add-on's to the controller or whatever, kind of like what they did with the GC + GBA link idea.

That, and I do think Nintendo could be making quite a comeback with the Wii here. I really believe they will, after the slight damage the N64 and GC may have done (although I don't really think that, but they've always been considered to be the lesser systems these days, if that makes sense? Can't really think of a way to explain what I'm trying to say here. )

Reading the previous posts in this thread though, getting Japan exclusives would be absolutely amazing. From Rondo of Blood, to maybe even Seiken Densetsu, that would be great for us gamers outside of Japan. So yeah, the whole classic gaming catelogue idea really has me excited for the Wii. That and Brawl.

Your "sources"? The price range is $199-249 and won't be finalized until before launch, so maybe in a month or two.

The Wii doesn't have to go overboard with controllers but I like the Virtual Console controller. I'd probably pick that up for sure.

Reasonable price tag along with a new way to experience games. Impossible to top that for someone like me who's not looking forward to the same franchizes with the same gameplay and only superficial upgrades. (Really, considering what's been shown for the PS3 so far. It's nothing more visualy amazing then the latest PC titles like HL2 or Elder Scrolls Oblivion if you own a well equiped PC.)
