The whole Sonic/Miles thing is just a trend. I may ditch that options screen in favor of a custom one in the future, but if not I may consider changing the BG mappings to allow for something more interesting. =P

Sorry, but I'm not exactly sure about how far you (Tweaker) are with this whole hack, i.e. how long until the first (demo) release.

If he didn't give a date the first time, I don't think it would happen the second.

But what I bet we're gonna be waiting is a long time, because the new features and music is only half of the work. Level layout is a completely different process that can and should take weeks/months to finish. If Stephen and Tweaker plan on releasing a demo to show off their new features, then I bet you wouldn't wait to long, but it's more likely that they'll release a demo theat is actually playable. So tie your shoes and start that pacing.

Don't bother me about demos... I don't like to be pressured into a deadline.

My work on this periodically goes on and off... Thinking about the current feature list, and what needs to be done still, I may be able to release a limited demo soon. Suffice to say, it won't be as complete as the full release. But I guess it's something.

What I COULD do is have one of my beta testers record a video showing off the current gameplay features... A little bit of each level, I suppose. Though there's not much change in the levels as of yet, it's interesting to see the cool new tricks you can do.

I'm not pressurising you into a dead line, like "IF YOU DON'T RELEASE THE ROM BY...", I'm just wondering exactly how far you are.
Perhaps you should only read that part about my post, and ignore the 'when the demo is released' part.
I do believe, if I've read the posts correctly, that you are probably almost half-way, yet it's going to take more time. I've got no problem with when it's released, infact, the longer I have to wait, the better, as you have more time to get this hack perfect. Unlike, when Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker, they apparently released it too early, simply because of the 'fans' wanted it to be, and they missed about 1 (or was it 2) whole dungeons out.

By the 'when do think it will come out?' question, like I said, I didn't mean 'When IS this game coming out', expecting you to say 'It's definitely coming out tomorrow, for example', I just meant 'Do you have a rough idea how long', probably expecting some answer like 'about 5 months', or 'definitely before December', but not something like 'the 100th anniversary of World War 1 will have gone before this is even close', i.e. about August 2014.

Just letting you know, Roms posted on the board get you a warning.
IPS patching works better, but I don't know if it's the same for Genesis dumps

Shit, I forgot about the whole no-ROM thing. Why the hell is that in effect anyway? Not like SEGA cares about ROMs you post -- fuck I've sent them ROMs MYSELF before and they didn't give two shits.

Better safe than sorry. That, and IPS patches are much smaller.

Well, I guess I'll take care of that when I get home, then. Until then, snag the full ROM, I guess. =P

Plus I forgot to post the moves. Here we go...

Moves, and controls to use them:

Homing Attack - B/C near an enemy/monitor after a jump
Light Dash - A near a set of rings (Sonic only)
Double Jump - B/C in air when no enemies/monitors are around (Shadow only - WIP)
Light Speed Attack - Hold A and do a homing attack near multiple enemies/monitors. 5 ring cost for each additional target after the first.
Spindash - ...you'd better know this one.

Actually, the "IPS is much smaller" doesn't really apply so much here, considering the fact that advanced Sonic hackers such as Tweaker generally work from disassembly level, so an IPS will potentially be almost as big as the ROM itself, especially with substantial changes that cause code to shift around. And in that case, the IPS will still contain some of Sega's copyrighted code, so it would be just as illegal as the ROM.

Sega doesn't seem to give a shit unless you're trying to profit, which noone in the Sonic hacking scene has done yet, at least not with a hack. Nintendo might raise bloody hell but Sega seems much more laid back. Hell, Naka got his current copy of the publically-available Sonic 2 prototype from the scene, and he didn't go off and start suing sites that distribute it.

If this weren't finals/projects week... and I didn't have to work this afternoon... and I didn't have four projects to finish tonight... and I had a thumb drive on me... I'd download it right now.

My only gripe is light-dash does not make sonic invinceable when it's in use.

Other than that it's _¬ Nice

I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not like there are enemies along every string of rings. The only complaint I had with it was I hit a string in midair, hit a hill, and somehow flew backwards and off the bottom of the screen. =P

Just out of curiosity Tweak, are you still including Mighty in this hack? I don't recall ever hearing of his special ability, and it's not listed as a WIP. Either way, great job with Megamix so far. As soon as I pop back over to the SSRG, I'll leave a more in-game review there.

Yeah, Mighty's still in there. I just didn't get around to sticking in his ability yet.

I want to make a few suggestions.

One good idea that came into my mind as i read this thread was that, what if you used other sega franchises from the 16 Bit era as themes for different zones?
Also, I'm not too crazy about the Michael Jackson music when fighting robotnick, the rest of the time it dose not hurt, it just sounds bad with that song playing when fighting botnick.

Oh, and if you want i can aid you in graphics.
