I've looked and looked can't find any of them anywhere. If it matters, my video card is a ATI 3D RAGE PRO AGP.

It'd be the normal ATI drivers, if your card supports OpenGL.

I don't think that ATi does Open GL. I remember when doom 3 came out using Open GL how only Nvidia cards only worked. Keep searching though their might be one.

It may be the case that your card does not support OpenGL at all. I remember I had a Creative RIVA TNT that had no OpenGL support.

Some other computer in the house has a Radeon 9250, it supports OpenGL

...When did the 3D Rage Pro come out? I think it's INSANELY old... Meaning there's a chance it won't work with hardware accelerated OpenGL.
(If I'm not mistaken, that card was one of the ones directly preceding the very first Radeon.) |

I guess I have to use DirectX for rendering then. When I use DirectX though, I can only use it in full screen 16-color mode (where for some reason, no-one has fully rendered skin and look like first stage resin dolls, and 2D transparency doesn't work) or I'll get this error and the thing will quit.
Thing is, I've installed the latest avilable, packaged in an exe file named "directx_apr2006_redist", or atlease I think I have, when I run DXSETUP.exe, I see it doing something to my DirectX folder but afterwards nothing seem to be different. |

I think the problem is that you're using an INCREDIBLY OLD GRAPHICS CARD THAT CAN'T DO ANY MORE THAN THAT. Updating DirectX won't fix that problem; the only thing that (if it would) could would be updating the drivers, but you've probably done that.
Final solution: Give up. Buy a graphics card that's not 10+ years old. |

Well I've just located a 32MB card for seven dollars at a local store I found online. It's OEM! From what I'm told, that's a good thing.
... And I'm not sure if I have a 4 or 8 meg card at the moment. |

Start->Run and type "dxdiag". This runs DirectX system information program. One of the tabs is "Video". With it, it should tell you how much video ram you have.
Also, what is the kind of card you have. Just because you have more video memory doesn't mean that you can use OpenGL |

Okay I do have four megs. And my new card will be a Nvidia TNT. Which will aid my new alternating rectingle powers.

Okay, now you're just going from "incredibly old" to "really old." Don't expect that card to work, either.
How much are you willing to spend on a new video card? You can get a GeForce FX for under $100 now. Certainly not the fastest thing around, but still several generations newer than the dusty old crap you're buying, and still supported by the vast majority of games available. "OEM" means "Original Equipment Manufacturer." This term is applied to parts that are bought in bulk direct from the manufacturer (usually by computer builders), and thus come with no fancy packaging or extra accessories. OEM stuff is usually far cheaper than retail stuff, but it's not always made by reputable manufacturers (there are a lot of crappy video cards out there with name-brand chipsets). |

I hav a computer in the house with an nVidia TNT, which is ok for some purposes. It is really old though.
What are you trying to run anyway? |

TNT2 supports OpenGL (played stuff like Doom3 and UT2004 on it!), not sure about the first TNT.

The first TNT has some OpenGL support but I wouldn't rely on it being bug free. I believe it was nVidia's first attempt at supporting OpenGL...
According to wikipedia, ten just bought a card in the same generation as the one he is replacing. |

There's a difference between generation and capacity.

You're thinking of capability, not capacity, and they tend to be related. It's not like you're going to find a graphics card from the same time which suddenly leaps forward into being comparable to modern, for instance. A bit of an improvement may happen, yes, but you aren't going to get anything TOO spectacular.
(Well... it may be spectacular compared to what was there previously, particularly if hardware acceleration suddenly works for it, but it's not going to be too spectacular overall.) You never did answer... what are you trying to run? |
