I've been doing some digging around in this game lately, and a few days ago came across these two rooms that I thought were unused by RoomID hacking, in Chapter 6:

I'd never seen either of these before and knew of no way to get to either.. but have since found them both, in the last dungeon of Chapter 6.

For the first room.. start in this room. Instead of heading straight to the door, go up to the dead end.

Go to this spot and you will fall through the floor.

You end up in this room.. in the treasure chests are an Asterisk and a Medicine Jar. The stairs lead back to the room above.

The second hidden room is near the very end, in the dark tunnel right before the boss:

Go to about the middle of the tunnel and press left against the wall, and you will go through a hidden passage and see a treasure chest. Jump around and you will reveal a set of hearts, and the switch that opens the chest to find yet another Asterisk.

Both of these rooms I have missed all of these years, until today. Looking in some FAQs, I found that the second room was known by some.. but the first room I've seen nothing about in any FAQ I've read. There seemed to be absolutely no reason to go up to that dead end (since all other dead ends in the game are bad and usually lead to death or false exits).. Nintendo did a really mean trick by hiding that room there. The extra Medicine Jar really helps against the HooHoo Doll mini-boss that you fight right after that room.

I remember the first room but not the second. I'm fairly certain the only way to know the first room existed was through the Nintendo Power maps.

Wow... those are... rather insanely hidden. I suppose I can see the point to having them in the maps, but... still. I remember the game being irritating with hidden exits, and those seem a bit out of place... but...

Nice find, either way.

Yeah, but usually you knew where a hidden passage was because there'd be a shadow in the wall or something.

Hidden exits were really a pain in Chapter 3 when you were in the cemetary. Make one wrong turn and you were back on the world map.

And to think my brother and I both thought we'd found everything there was to be had in the game Not by hacking or any means of that sort, but rather by playing through the game way too many times, jumping on every block, hitting every wall with whatever weapon you currently had, and the like. We never tried walking over every single square though, which explains how we missed the rooms shown in the 5th, 6th, and 7th screenshots

Same thing goes for the last three. That's a pretty tricky place to have a branching path. Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, some time after you clear the world map part of the 6th chapter, you end up in an underwater area of sorts in Sub-C. After navigating through that area, you end up in a walking area that's a straight line, and for each of the three screens, gets darker. In the last screen, it's pitch black. Might there be something hidden in there? I know the only chapter in the game where items or a passage were hidden right at the beginning of the tunnel are either the 5th chapter's, or the second in the 6th. If I remember right, the first led to 6 hearts (or some other even number), and the second led you to the path you were required to take to make it through the tunnel.

As for the "HooHoo Doll Mini-boss" (we always called them Sandmen / Cylopses) _¬, they aren't so hard as to require a medicine bottle, provided you've got a good number of Asterisks, but I suppose it would help if you didn't.

Interesting stuff nonetheless. It's been a while since I touched this game, but I think I'm going to have to now, just to see these rooms I've missed all along

Edit: Forgot a close bracket
Edit 2: Way to screw up the pink smiley, preview page.

There is something like that in the first level of the game. If you don't explore, you can get 2 potions easily as you can't miss them. However, if you jump around after you get the 2nd potion, you will find hidden switches leading to rooms with more potions. However, after you get two potions via this hidden method you should stop despite having a third hidden switch. The third hidden switch leads to a room with just water.

There's nothing there, since that 'dungeon' is only three rooms long having any items there would be pointless.

The HooHoo Dolls aren't that difficult as long as you can stay away from them, as contact with them does 11 hearts worth of damage which is enough to kill you in one or two hits depending on your health.

neo's room is a perfect example of greed. I remember finding the first potion and going "yay", the second potion and going "YAY!" and then... splash.

Evil.
