I beat Crocmire a couple days ago but can't figure out what to do. I tried going to Norfair via the glass tube, but I think I got stuck. From the looks of it, I need the Speed Booster to continue, but I believe I need the Grappling Beam, which I cannot find, to get it.

go through the glass tube into norfair, you are in the right area if you find yourself stuck at the bottom of a grapplpe pit

I've been busy alot lately so i haven't gotten much further then the last time i posted but i'm avoiding reading through too much of the thread so i don't see any spoilers.
I'm constantly supprised at the amount of work that must have gone into all the changes and the brilliant level design. In terms of difficulty i wouldn't change a thing. I search every nook and cranny when i play and it feels good being rewarded for it. I'm been having so much fun i can't help but chuckle as i get through every tensing situation. Yeah, finally managed to do it there and back after beating Cromartie (only took about 4hrs of attempts for both jumps) but finally have the power bombs. Thankfully not had to restart the game, gotta get that charge beam asp as that was more hell than the combined work in original Super Metroid. Drewseph, your hack work is brilliant but causing me too many sleepless nights (I must finish it!!!!). Please continue the metroid hacking work, as the Varia hell run is best thing ever seen/thought of in a metroid game. I look forward to rest of the game (goes back to playing....). |

Originally posted by alcozar You said it, I don't think I'v ever been this determined to finish a hard hack. Usually I get disinterested after the first hour of saving/loading my savestate. But your hack is so compelling. Currently I'm in that huge water area of Crateria with the fly kicking pirates. It looks like I traveled thru all that slow moving water in vain though, as I'v hit a wall and can't go any further. I shudder to think I'm gonna have to wade my way all the way back to dry land...but I will.. (edited by AlexAR on 05-17-06 11:23 AM) |

Yeah I'm in the same area as Alex cept I made it through to the lost caverns.
...God I hate those kind of puzzles. But don't get me wrong you've done what few "games" have made me do (not even hacks have done this) and made me go get a piece of paper to keep notes to try and figure out the way through that damn maze. So exelent work on that part. You know thinking about it most of us have now only fought...maybe a third of the games bosses. We've fought the Torzo Statue, Spore Spawn, Crocomire, and Karid. Thats one gaurdian and most of the mini bosses. We still have yet to fight Botwoon, Phantoon, Draygoon, The Golden Torzo Statue, and Ridley. Which stands to question...Just how big is this game? |

Megaman: its Huge
Alcozar: you're in the right area, there is no dead end after the pirates, since you have hi jump. |

Luckily for me, I managed to figure out the concept of the Lost Caverns in about 30 minutes, and got through it in 45. What was after got me stuck again, so I had to backtrack a little.
Here's a small hint for the caverns if you want it: Spoiler: The answer does not lie in the background. |

You can do what I did, make a save state on one platform, go to another intersection and make another sve state at the xact same spot, and keep loading both until you spot the differences

Yeah, I realize the stalactite change, but I still cant make out their 'code' I think I might as well download that speed run. I already 'cheated' by asking help here so.. yeah

Where to begin?
Great job on the Lost Caverns (Thank you "SO" much Chibi Gatomon for posting that bit of directions for the Caverns if it wasn't for that... I'd probably still be at those caverns... With my fist through the screen ). I never did notice a change in the room design in all reality I made it out the last part of the maze through dumb-luck (Now that I think of it that's exactly how I got out of a game with a maze similar to that exept I got really mad and started randomly hitting the arrow keys then suddenly I was out. Heh go figure _¬) Next up. I can't agree with the room design when fighting Phantoon I mean all you have to do is curl up in a ball and you can evade most of his attacks namely those little platforms that work as good shields. It just made the battle a little to easy in my opinion. Third. I...Love...Maridia! I was afrad that it was going to be another "search EVERYWHERE" thing like in Norfair but no this time it was a nice free explore waterworld type of level and I LOVE IT! It really catches the old spirit of Metroid making you get to explore freely around the whole world not knowing but still likeing whats new to find around every corner. (That and the fact that I found the map room after I looked around every corner ......I can't belive I missed it) Fourth. I had a feeling plating through the game that the fct that pressing jump again while in mid-air made you start to summersault and I was right. GREAT JOB fixing the screwed up shabby controlls for the Space Jump. It now totally feels like a new Metroid game. Last comment. This ones a bit of a gripe but... I just recently found the Screw Attack (which was pretty easy to get considering its the most powerful weapon in the game but campared to the crap I had to go through to get some of the other items I'm not really complaining). But exactly why did you make it so it only works when you hold the dash button? We're you trying to lesen it's god-mode capabilitys or ... Now that I think about it. Trying to make it act like it did in Metroid Prime 2 Echos? Ah well it'll take some getting used to but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Still a great hack even getting this close to the end just one question... Where the heck's the damned Spazer at? I've been going through Maridia and ready to go to Ridly's Hideout (nice way to hide the entrance to it btw) and I've only had the Ice and Wave beam. And I get the feeling I'm not getting Plasma Beam anytime soon...Anybody know where the friken Spazer is? |

Dang... this really gets fun after you get grapple, speed booster, and hi-jump...
Everything just kinda... opens up Found spazer without some help today, along with a bunch of tanks. (That one in Brinstar where you have to charge, wall jump, fall and diagonally shinespark though the ceiling was a PAIN... should have been worth something more IMO) Anyways, three questions... 1. Whats this "Lost Caverns" place everyone is talking about. 2. Is there anything of vital importance in Ridleys Hideout? (IE the Gravity suit or screw attack)I planned on heading in that direction now that I romped through Cratera... and met grey doors everywhere 3. Has anyone actually beaten this game legit? (Excluding the speed runners, and Drew) 8 hours and counting... this is just as good as a game you can pay for... except free. Thanks for eating my time Drew |

The purple blocks that needed to be bombed to get out of being stuck in North East Norfair... That was just plain diabolical. (i'm assuming i'll be getting the grapple device soon) The only reason i found the path was by power bombing every area in rage. (edited by Amano on 05-18-06 06:04 AM) |
