The Red Mage started at the sight of the sack of gil.

Sky: Holy hell, that's a lot of money. Where'd you GET all that, anyway?

This blockhead sure had a way with people, for better or worse. His straightforward manner was rather amusing. It had also been a while since Sky had had really good ale, so he hoped the bar had some good stuff on hand.

Just as he was relaxing in his chair, the group was approached by a rather determined-looking Black Mage, who addressed Sky directly. The Red Mage shot the fellow a confused glance.

Sky: That IS my name, but...how did you know it? Who are you, anyway?

The black mage laughed.

Adamant: Haha, I'm sorry. I know of you, but you obviously have no idea who I am. The name is Adamant, I'm what you may call an artificially engineered magician. I am here on behalf of Luhkan, whom I am sure you are familiar with. As you obviously know, since you're in this city, it is time for the orb keepers to unite their forces.

The mage sat down on one of the chairs near the table, and smiled.

Adamant: Now, I seek the bearer of the Water orb. Is he or she among you?

Wasting time on unnessecary explanations was obviously not something this one cared much for.

Seraphim: "I think that might be mine, but I can't really tell, it isn't glowing at all and it's just a lump to me."

Serphim held her orb out for the black mage to see, she was more intent on watching his hands than his actions.

Adamant fished a piece of paper with some drawings on it from his pocket, and compared one of the illustrations with the orb.

Adamant: That does indeed seem to be it. How lucky I am, that the orb I was searching for is held by such a beautiful young woman.

The mage put the piece of paper back in his pocket, and stood up.

Adamant: Dear miss, I ask you to accompany me to the Sea Shrine, where the key to saving the world from being flooded lies. A terrible disaster is threatening us this very moment, and you happen to be the destined hero who will save the world. Come with me, I beg of you.

The Red Mage quickly got up and placed himself between Adamant and Seraphim, and turned to the Black Mage.

Sky: Whoa, whoa, whoa there, buddy. We just met you, and you're trying to recruit her for your little mission? Seems like you know a bit more than you should. What's your angle, anyway?

Sky put a hand in his cloak, grasping a small dagger he kept for close quarters combat. This guy, he thought, might be a friend, but he might also be big trouble.

The black mage sat back down, smiling.

Adamant: Forgive my rashness. The three of you are gathered here because of the prophecy, right? Evil forces are wreaking havoc on this planet, and four warriors, each carrying an orb, are destined to combat these forces, and hopefully set things right, blah blah blah. Now, this beautiful girl happens to be none other than the Champion of Water, the one who will save the world from being swallowed by water. As you are most likely aware of, the world is currently being threatened by floods, tsunamis, maelstroms, you name it. Unless the Champion visits the Sea Shrine and revives the power of her orb, we will all perish. And that is why I'm here, tracking down the one Champion I knew the identity of, in hope that he would get in touch with the right person. The one who will save the world from disaster.

Once again, he rose to his feet.

Adamant: Again, I ask you to accompany me to the shrine. The fate of the world rests in your hands. Come.

Seraphim: "You shouldn't make it seem so serious, you have to remember, I'm a thief, not some pretty girl."

Seraphim glared at the black mage.

Seraphim: "The ones who have orbs should stick together, just in case something attacks us."

Seraphim laughed to herself.

Seraphim: "If it's as valuable as you say, prehaps I should just sell it!"

Blitzen stood at the door, rolling the orb on the end of the chain in his hands. It had a gritty texture to it... like sand almost... though appeared smooth as a pearl. Listening to most of the conversation between the black and red mage, he ducked back behind the wall.

"So they're got something to do with the elemental pillars holding this world together, or something... anything that lets us investigate the fabric between this world and another might give us a chance to pierce through and escape..."

That would involve making an actual trek to the Sea Shrine. It wouldn't be much but it would be a start. It couldn't be that far... could it?

"I just gotta provide evidence of what Adamant says, and it might make them reconsider making the journey." Blitzen glanced around him, looking for something. He picked up a bucket of water sitting on the floor of the hall, dousing himself with its contents. Tossing the bucket to the side, his hand glowed red, and he started waving it up and about himself. His clothes quickly dried, giving them a rain-beaten look. Taking a deep breath, he stepped back out, speaking to no one in particular.

"E-excuse me... I heard about you... possibly going to look into the r-recent weather... bad weather... bad water weather happening lately, well, I had a little fishing camp a few dozen miles from here that I lived in for years, until a heavy rain totally destroyed the place... and I would appreciate that you investigate like you say, and maybe take me along so I can give my tha...bles...um... can I just come? I need to see this for myself..."

Blitzen bit his lip, hoping that even the sages sitting in front of him would take his ridiculous story.

Sky groaned. This "Adamant" guy sure had bad timing and was far too forward about his intentions. The Red Mage looked to Seraphim briefly.

Sky: Sorry to make you feel like I thought you were just a helpless girl, but the fact is that even the strong, in fact especially the strong, can often be used for various things. As for selling it, the Black Mage knows what he's talking about on this one; you're the only one who can restore it.

One down, one to go, Sky thought.

Sky: And you, Adamant, I don't know how you got here, but the sea shrine's on the other side of the world, and look at us; we're barely equipped to walk around outside the town, let alone go over there. Things are getting worse, it's true, but it's a matter of decades, not minutes, by which that happens. It's not really any worse than it was 10 years ago.

Just as he thought he had dealt with problems and could enjoy a nice mug of ale, a strange man stepped out from behind the wall and began ranting. Sky wasn't sure whether or not to believe him, but either way, it didn't seem like there was anything they could do.

Sky: We know there's a problem, and we know the source. An investigation like that would merely delay us from our goal, and be more costly to you anyway. I think we'll just stick with our original plan...once I figure out what that plan is, anyway...

The black mage, unconcerned about the newcomer, stood up, looking considerably less smug than he had been up to this point

Adamant: No! You're all wrong! Onracian scientist have calculated that it is only a matter of weeks until the entire state sinks into the sea. The city of Floatia sank 3 days ago, and... I'm sorry, but this is far more urgent than you think. Just come with me to Onrac, lady, I beg you. The entire Oncarian army is ready to take you to the Sea Shrine, so you can light the orb. Just... come with me. I have a ship waiting, just south of the city.

Seraphim: "I'm not rushing to my suicide for anyone. As far as I care, the damn place can sink."

Seraphim turned away from the black mage and was now looking right at Sky.

Seraphim: "At least you understand."

Seraphim's name was completely against her attitude. She was no angel, she was probably closer to a demon. She wanted life and everything it had, not to die at a young age.

The orb around Arus' neck began to radiate some heat. The other orbs were nearby. THe redish sphere glowed ever so slightly, but not enough for Arus to notice it through his Chainmail shirt under his armor. Arus was getting irritated at the Black Mage who so casually decided to butt into the affairs.

"Look, buddy. She said she doesn't wanna go. Whaddaya gonna do, make her?"

He then winked at Sky, motioning him to follow his bluff.

"My pal here's the grandson of the great sorcerer Galamand, and trained personally under Kaltho Ironsteel, the famed swordsman. As a Red Mage, he's one of the best! So if I were you, I'd best be on my way." he threatened, standing up.

Sky glared at Adamant.

Sky: I'd say she's made it pretty clear she's not coming with you. I rather doubt what you say about the army, as Coneria's own force wouldn't stand by while that happened, and we'd likely hear, well, SOMETHING if there was another force around.

And it was then that a frantic looking man ran into the bar.

NPC#343: It's terrible! Princess Sarah has been kidnapped!

Sky grabbed the Black Mage by the top of his robes and pulled him closer, scowling.

Sky: What kind of trouble are you and your friends after?!

Adamant's smugness was all gone by done, replaced by annoyance and hints of anger.

Adamant: W-wait a second. I have nothing to do with this. I'm telling you, we were only sent here to pick up the Champion of Water and take her back to Onrac! What could we possibly gain by kidnapping the princess of Coneria? Only 6 men, me included, were sent here anyway, the rest of the army is waiting in Onrac for our return.

Seraphim: "Well, it doesn't really matter now, if we save the princess we can get into the castle!"

Seraphim's thoughts: "And steal enough royal treasure to be set for life! I can't wait!"

Seraphim finished off her drink and seemed to be renewed with a sense of charity and seflessness. Naturally, all an act.

Sky: Honestly, I'd rather go with this guy than go save the princess. I'm all for heroics, but I don't see how going and saving her would help us in our quest.

Just then, another townsperson came into the bar. Good timing, really.

Random NPC#572: The king said he'd give anything...within reason...to anyone who saved the princess!

Sky: Well, in that case, I suppose we COULD go help her...

The more that Arus dwelled on the subject the more intense his thoughts became, and the fact that Seraphim had agreed to go only bolstered his ideas.

"Yknow, now that I think about it... I've been itchin' for an adventure for a long time! And nothing's more heroic than saving a damsel in distress! Know what? Count me in!"

*And I can walk out of there with more booty than I can handle! In more ways than one, I'll bet...* he thought as he chuckled to himself.

He set the bag of Gil on the table at took out 20 pieces.

"C'mon, Magewarrior. Let's go. Kantha! The pay's on the table!" he shouted to the barkeep, who nodded at him.

The black mage coughed.

Adamant: Ahem. As I told you, my mission is to transport the Champion of Water to Onrac. However, as it seems she's more interested in this little escapade for the moment, I'll be willing to let her go with you guys for the moment. I'd just like to tell her that her destined mission is of greatest interest to the government of Onrac, and they'd obviously want to reward her for her trouble. I'm certain we'll be able to work something out.

He looked at the group.

Adamant: Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go.

Seraphim heard the word reward and her ears seemed to stand a little.

Seraphim: "Before we charge in, maybe we should find someone that knows where they're going... Rushing out was never my forte."

Although, if worse came to worse, she had a rather dense guy to fall back on and take a few attacks. Seraphim didn't realize she was actually glancing at Arus while thinking that.

Sky: True, a guide is useful. That's not all, either. I don't know about the rest of you, but my equipment is pretty worn out from the journey here. We'll need to stop by the store to get something else. Besides...

The magewarrior kept his voice down, since this wasn't exactly the most tactful thing to say around a bunch of villagers who may love their royalty.

Sky: I really don't think there's any rush to go saving the princess. We don't want to dawdle too much, of course, but if he was going to kill her he'd have done it already, so she should be in one piece even if we don't get there right away.
