I prefer Revolution and the majority of gamers do as well, but Wii isn't all that bad. It's odd, of course, but not... you know, horrid and catastrophic.

Revolution. Wii just doesn't sound like an appropriate name for a console. Innovation is probably going to be the death of Nintendo. Sure, it's bold and it might appeal to the younger audience. But they're really starting to push their luck. They're starting to lose their long-time fans. Remember, while saying something is for everyone and marketing it as such often results in it looking so childish to most teenagers that they won't even consider buying it. Even if the system is good, that one big thing will be a major turn-off.

Yeah, you're right, because their money is so much better than the money of spoiled brats and immature morons.

I really don't think this is going to have that much of an effect on sales, for better or worse. The amount lost by childish people will probably be no more than that gained by people who appreciate the "quirkiness" of the name.

That said, "Wii" is an awful name.

That was confusingly written. But yeah, I really don't think there's use marketing to everyone. They know they're being quirky. I mean, heck, we all know the design is quirky; why shouldn't the name match?

It's not like Nintendo exactly needs a lot of money to come from this.

It doesn't sound "cool", so no one's going to want to talk about it in school (especially with the people who look for any reason to knock the shit out of someone; I've got plenty of experience with them), and as the <17 crowd seems to generally be Nintendo's target demographic... you see where I'm going with this.

This guy gets it. I'd much rather start a gaming Revolution than ask my friend if he wants to play with my Wii. You can rant all you want about how penis jokes are immature, but face it, 90% of Nintendo's target demographic is immature. These are the people who brought you Nintendo LamePube, GayBoy Advance, Nintendo BS, GayStation 2 and SuXbox. Like they're going to take Wii seriously? People are idiots, they're going to make idiotic jokes.

I still don't see what the problem is. Yes, there are stupid people out there, and stupid people make stupid jokes. But hell, I can see way more people buying it for the sake of making stupid jokes than not buying it because other people make stupid jokes. I'm not gonna say this is the best title ever, but dammit, you guys are blowing it way out of proportion. It's certainly a better name than Revolution. No one likes communists.

That's not what you think of when you hear revolution, though. That was over 200 years ago... Revolutions have traditionally lead to bad things. At least in recent times.

In agreement with Alastor's earlier posts, I don't see anyone who was interested before not buying a Wii simply because of the new name. If you're a gamer, and you were going to buy a Revolution, you're still going to buy a Wii. And who knows, maybe some non-gamer people will be intrigued by the name and check it out, though I doubt that, too.

the new name might actually be what pushes me over the edge to not buy one. first the stupid controller, waving a fucking wand around is not what I wanna do when I play video games. then the lousy specs, it's probably not even gonna be half as powerful as the ps3/360. and now the piss name. there is seriously no way i'm going to a store and saying "i'll have one wii please".

i think what the name change might do is push away the causal gamer. the hardcore gamers don't care what the name of the console is, they'll but it anyways. the non-gamers don't choose by the name of the console, they choose what other people tell them to choose. that leaves the casual gamer, who cares about the name.

Did Nintendo think at least one second how the name "Wii" was awful? Did they think at least one second that most people would prefer Revolution? Look at this poll: Revolution 24, Wii 8.

I know a lot of people that think the NDS is just a super GBA. I don't. I just can't believe they changed an excellent name for an awful one.

I am going to have to go with Wii on this one. It is something new, something different. I think that it is also a safe name for nintendo...

Meaning this: If they were to call a system something like Revolution... It better be that... a revolution. A revolution in gaming, in presentation, what ever. However, what if it is not? What if it's just mediocre? What if it does nothing to really further the gaming experience, as revolution would suggest? In that case, revolution would seem to be the worse name. Or sales for that matter. I can hear the people on X-Play already making the pun, "Sales for the Revolution hardly revolutionary, but mediocre at best." And then we gawk at Morgan Webb.

My point is, Revolution is great, it is a strong word and deep with meaning. However, I do not feel that anyone should ever name something Revolution untill it is just that. Besides, Wii sounds crazy... and I like crazy.

Personally no. There wouldn't be a chance in hell that I'd swap the touch-screen for more polygons on-screen. I've become bored with most game genres nowadays - I don't even own a PS2, Gamecube or X-box, mainly because there are very few games interesting enough to warrant buying one - but the DS is the only console/handheld that I'm actually interested in. Mainly that's because of the more unique games that are coming out for the DS. Label me a fanboy if you want, but if the PSP actually had any interesting games out for it, I'd buy one.

Do you think Wii stands for something? (Yes, I read SaT's post)

Or are we pronouncing it wrong... Like, maybe its pronounced "WHY" instead of "WHEE"

At any rate, "I still don't see what the problem is. Yes, there are stupid people out there, and stupid people make stupid jokes. But hell, I can see way more people buying it for the sake of making stupid jokes than not buying it because other people make stupid jokes."

This pretty much sums up exactly what I was going to type...

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Eh, i'm kind of undecided really. I get positive thoughts when I hear the word revolution, then i'm quite leftist. xD

I still buy it if they called it poop*.

*(And that makes me a fanboy... weee)
