Discombobulate - verb
1) Disassemble, reverse-engineer. I can discombobulate the program to see how it does that.
2) ~ed: Confused. Waking up on the kitchen table left me very discombobulated.

Do it Acmlm! Wait...What if Acmlm hasn't even viewed the site ever? What if Xkeeper created the Acmlm account for good looks, and then when people claim they "saw" him, it was just Xkeep under his account! ONOES!

I considered the possibility, but I doubt it. Nice interrobang btw.

And a completely blank post, or one in a forum nobody else can access would be funniest.

Posted on 04-03-06 09:20 PM, in Wireless Network Problems Link
You have to consider angles when you set up a wireless network. Specifically, the line between the two antennas. If this line is passing through a wall at a 90° angle, it only has to go through a few inches, but at a 45° angle, it has twice as much wood to go through.

Incidentally, this is mentioned in the manual for the wireless router included with Sympatico's 5mbps plan. I have it, and one of the computers which connects to it wirelessly has the same specs you mentioned.

Posted on 04-03-06 09:54 PM, in Legal Ramifications of ROM Hacking Link
It's actually not hard to dump ROMs on a lot of more recent Nintendo systems, since there's more ways to get your own code running on them. With NES, SNES and Game Boy, the only way you could usually run your own code was to build your own cartridge, which leaves no way to insert a cartridge to copy.1 N64 has Gameshark that connects to the PC, Gamecube has the PSO exploit (or you can replace the bootROM), GBA has multiboot, and DS has the various boot-from-GBA-cart hacks (or replace the firmware); all of these let you run your own code while an official cart is still inserted. Ironically, the systems that Nintendo put the most effort into protecting are the ones that are easiest to dump ROMs from. (Actual piracy, however, can be quite a pain. I don't pirate (no, seriously) but just look how long it took for GC and DS.)

1Well, you could use a rewritable cart, run your program entirely from RAM, swap carts, copy a bit, swap back, and write. Have fun doing it, though, as the size of a ROM tends to greatly exceed the amount of RAM available. Also, NES, SNES and probably others will reset if the cart is removed due to the protection chips.

I seem to recall a lot of bug reports regarding those, while Fu's only had the problems of not allowing Yoshi and not making Mario invincible when coming out of the pipe.

Some Star Wars game for N64 or Gamecube, don't really remember. My brother was (as usual) using an All Weapons and Infinite Ammo cheat, fighting this spaceship. He used some uberweapon you're not supposed to have at that point in the game. The ship just disappeared into thin air! In the next scene only its boosters were there.

Also I went through walls several times in Space Station: Silicon Valley, died at random, etc. I've mentioned how buggy that game is before.

Heh, and sometimes in Mario Kart DS a red shell will zoom right past me, stop, turn around, and hit me. You could do similar in some battle courses on Mario Kart 64 - if an opponent's red shell got right below or above you on another floor, it'd stop dead and follow you on that floor. You could then drive it into a wall or another person.

I've also seen some damn strange glitches. Zelda 3's file select cursor went looney, half a Koopa got stuck to me in Mario is Missing, etc.

The games are fun, but I really haven't enjoyed any after G/S. Ru/Sa just aren't as amusing (still beat them though ); the amount of Pokémon is ridiculous, types and move sets seem poorly balanced, the AI is way cheap and the random number generator seems to be flawed (just keep running into the same Pokémon over and over, missing again and again, doing the same amount of damage every time etc). I'm playing through the original Red again, it's quite amusing really.

Also the AI cheats in Stadium. Not sure about Stadium 2.

Having it vertical isn't good for the discs, but I've never heard of it doing that. Try holding the door open. Maybe even gently pulling it out; just stop if it resists too much.

They let you return it? Lucky bastard. Wal-mart wouldn't let me return Pokémon Dash, which is a huge turd. AVOID.

Also, F-Zero GX was a major disappointment for me. It's good, sure, but X was so much more fun.
