This is a Mario 1 hack I made a couple years ago before right before I started workin with Omega on DP.

It's simple, old, cheap and quite glitchy. But what the hell.

Feel free to bash it all you want.

the font was ripped and modified from Alien 3 for the SNES.
All the other graphics were by me. Some graphics were ripped from Metroid Genocide as well as the fireball (spinys)

When I say glitchy, I MEAN GLITCHY! There are levels where if you die you restart over a hole. And one where you can get your self stuck walking into nothingness after hitting the flag.

Oh... there is also a secret at the end of level 2-2

I like this so far. I do. Best ROM hack ever? I don't think so... good though? yeah.

I've been looking forward to this thing forever. SM is one of my favorites. But this in my opinion hardly lives up to the original.

What I like: Much bigger areas, well placed items and well put together maps. I was so giddy when I got lost for the first time . I like how to explotation is broken down a little. Making people earn the high jump boots is nice. The graphics match the original stlye and fit in very well. The boss rooms kick ass. Fighting the chozo statue in a foggy room was much better then the tiny square room of the original. The physics, while taking some getting used to, are done well. They aren't better then the original, nor are they worse.

What I don't like: Firing twenty times at a crawlie is just annoying. The enemies have just a wee bit too much strength. And their placement sometimes land cheap hits on Samus. I know everybody and their sister has praised you to no end on level design but seriously... this may be surprising but rooms filled with water, spikes and grabbie enemys aren't as original as they may seem to be. I wasn't as irritated with the hard ass jumps but the spikes are ridiculous. Spikes here, spikes there, SPIKES EVERYWHERE! It's a bit much honestly. Some say this is borderline impossible, I say this is borderline cheap.

Now I'm not gonna bash this much because I still enjoy playing it and have not finished it yet. But so far it seems to be just a little above average and I have hope that it will get better.

In terms of level design, agian, using the resources of the rom you can only use so many different textures. What makes the level design so smart and original is the way that the obstacales were set up, not it's visuals.

There are other ways to make something harder besides making enemies stronger. And I never made any comment on bad visuals. I actually like them. Don't get me wrong. I like this hack more then most others, it's just that having to know the glitches in and out and dodging thorns is kind of a drag.

Thank you. That makes reaching those areas a bright future for me

I have an interesting story.
I was play testing Agahims dungeon for Zelda DP. I set a hole and forgot to change it's pointer and when going down landed in the boss room of Dungeon two. Which at the time was the same room Arghus was in in the original. And Arghus was the boss. I killed him just for kicks and a medallion dropped instead of the pendant. Not just graphically either. and as a side note. I was using the mountain tower boss room so the pendant fell in the middle of the room.

-Fell into boss room of another dungeon
-Was using the Mountain tower boss room which made the pendant fall in the middle
-was fighting Arghus in his room from the original
-pendant was replaced with a medallion.

This was a while ago... maybe a year. I haven't replecated the glitch yet.

Like what Euclid said, The kill boss again tag is enabled only in Agahim 2 (or any entrance that uses it)
Other dungeons/houses/caves can not use that tag.

I used to feel the same about love. Like it wasn't for me. Then I got hit by car and perhaps my noggin was dented just right. For I realized the solution to high school relationships...

DON'T BOTHER WITH HIGHSCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS

I didn't bother hitting on women seriously until I was a senior. And trust me, it's easy once you get the formula down. What most 14 year pre-puberty males lack is patience.

Think of a relationship as water in the kettle. It takes time to bring it to a full boil. And like what some have said don't ever make it a drama. No offence to Head Hunter but your story sounds like something off the Halmark Channel.

Just play it cool...

I have been accepted to AI New England (or New England Institute of Art)
and I have been given a letter asking if I want to start school early in their Summer II program. I'd leave June 27. Benefits include.

-Head Start on classes
-lower tuition
-leave sooner

The problem I run into is whether or not I'm ready to leave home. This school does not offer summer breaks. So this would be my last summer ever. And to toss it away to leave early... it just makes me feel rushed. I don't know the next time I'll be able to call somebody up and chill or spend long afternoons wondering about life outside my world.

I really am in between a rock and a hard place with this one. so should I or should I not. (I'm not going to make my decision based on your opinions. Just want to know what others are thinking.)

Probably cause mine are so ugly and hard to look at. The bones stick out and the veins bulge in my feet *barf*

Metroid Genocide, after long delays, is finally close to being released.
I need some beta testers BADLY!!

If your interested here is a list of all known bugs.

-pallete problem with samus in Norfair
-pallete weirdness with samus in Brinstar after leaving the white area and moving back to the red area
-two blue doors that need removing (one in Kraids lair, one in Ridleys lair)
-a red door that needs removing in Norfair (caused by an item)
-some major lag in Tourian

If you find any others you can PM them to me.
Also be on the lookout for rooms that look like they should have items but don't.

The big thing I need tested here is the fun factor and difficulty.
If your interested leave one.

Shiryu. You may beta.
Bloodzero... if you can learn how to spell and possibly grow up another 3 or 4 years then maybe.

The missing item bug is caused by the password system not knowing where the items are. Without massive ASM knowledge I can't change it... however I keep it in mind.

All in all.. use savestates.

Keep up the good work peeps.

Grab a hex editor and search for the values in the ROM.
As far as I know thats the only way (and probably best way anyway) available.
Search for documents on the games specs online (google)

I do not wish for METGEN to require those sorts of tricks.
This game is built much around the style of the original metroid game in terms of design and setup. For example. You won't climb up to the top of a vertical shaft to be stopped by the floor of a horizontal room above it. And jumps won't be cheap. You can still use them. But any jump that seems out of reach was intended to require a certain item ie highjump boots, ice beam, etc.
