Dude. I am digging the new font. That's super slick. Also, I appreciate your usage of italics. It's awesome.

Okay, I didn't read the rest of the topic like I normally do because I'm supposed to be doing my homework right now. Let's see. Uh, the title screen is, for lack of a better word, ugly. "Mario's Return" looks scrunched, tiny, and bland like it was made in MSPaint or something. I dunno what you can do about that, but the "curtain" is saveable. Is it supposed to be a curtain? Because it looks like it was made in Mario Paint. But hey, the point is gameplay.

So, uh, those eyes are looking like they could be shaded. I have no clue if you can do that, but most palettes need a grey. Also, some stuff needs some more pointless stuff. I 'unno. I just like coins. Mmm.

None of these paragraphs have anything to do with each other. The truth is, I wrote a big one and snapped it off and random points.

I played the demo, and I can only express how I feel through song.

Craw, Mr. Craw
This is reality on the phone
There are steps you must take
if you want your hack to be known

You need a learning curve if you want your game to be fun
But after a fortress, excrusiating level one
You tell the player that Y means run
There is much work to be done

Craw, Mr. Craw
Reality gives you a page
Your overworld events glitch
I died in your bonus stage

I'd put your hack down, find a different one to load
I could make your hack wait in a line
Glitchy mushroom weights in the first star road
But otherwise, great level design

Secrets in the cloudy coin area
Cleverly placed lotuses about to snare ya
One heck of a game, one heck of a show
Even better than the Demo World intro

Craw, Mr. Craw
Fix these problems for Mario
Before I decide to turn this
Into a music video

Craw, Mr. Craw
This is reality on the line
Remove those 5up koopas
So we can enjoy your design

Craw, Mr. Craw
This is reality on the line
Fix your wall running triangles
So we can enjoy your design

Spoken: Hey, man, can you tell me how to beat Star Road 1? No? That's cool...

Anybody who is playing the game full screen, or sometimes even the default ZSNES size. It is a lot more obvious when use there than it is at the size of that image.

Alright. Alright. Thanks for the feedback, guys...

I've fixed several issues, which will now be named in no particular order:
  • Deaths in bonus game, probably; can't be certain since they did seem to happen at random. At the very least, they happen much less frequently now, as I know I've eliminated at least two of the causes; I never knew what caused the third but the setup I'm using now should stop it as well.
  • Use of glitchy mushroom weights in Star World 1.
  • Multiple koopas in Secret 1 - Intro leading to ridiculously easy lives.
  • Holes in the scenery in Harmony Island 1.
  • Yoshi's Fortress being disproportionately difficult to the following levels in world 1.
  • The ability to jump through the crashing cieling in Mysterious Castle 1.
  • The message boxes in Teacup Isle 3 causing the fish in the background to freeze

So basically, the only glitch left to fix is the blue koopa's turning animation. Yes, I know some of the aforementioned weren't glitchy at all, just stupid, but whatever. I'll probably also redo the title screen "Mario's Return" text, but... Not right now... Uploading a new version with these things fixed seems pointless so I won't do that but obviously they'll be fixed by next time 'round.

The number one thing I love about this hack:

The difficulty. Sure, it can be tough at points, but it certainly is NOT impossible as some hacks tend to be. And sure, I may get a ton of game overs, but the situations leading to such are not impossible to overcome. Good job on that, I look forward to putting the demo on my Xbox and playing in on the big screen.

...
(can't hold it in.... must...say it!)

THIS HACK IS UBER AWSOME!!

...
...
*looks at int in the rpg status go down by 10*

Anyway, seriously, the 'intro' looks kickass. but a kickass intro gives no right for a crummy tittle screen

Also, During the play of your marvelous hack, I found a cool glitch/ability.

While on yoshi, I ate one of your 'ravens' (goomba's) AND a spring at the same time while walking into the spring. The result? I flew up twice the height as a spring bounce w/out the screen moving. After landing, i spat out the spring and it was a pancake . I'd really like to post a screeny of this, but I never had a chance to take one. (noooooooooooooooo X_X)

Anyway, I beat the hack, all the 'secrets' and yatta yatta yatta.

One question,

How many tries did it take to get the intro RIGHT? ....You must be proud to be a god.

I also found "Missingno." near the cemetary house in Luccaro. Whether it be a glitch or part of the ghostly weirdness is uncertain to me, though. I'll post a screenshot at your request.

EDIT: Now that I loaded up an existing save game, the area where the missingno. was, is now a normal looking island.

Oh, and your 2 message blocks in Star World 2 near the Yoshi have no words in them. Again, I will post a screenie of that via the photbucket thing.

Nevermind, I'm a snotty brat. I'll post it anyway! (please don't spork me...)

I also found an exit error....

Your hack is too tedious to play. It's too standard and boring

Shyguy: The first problem was already mentioned and fixed. I've fixed the second problem, though.

pkmnykin: I can understand you trying to mock me when I criticize the hack of another, but next time make sure you have a firm understanding of the connotations and meanings of the words you use.

Hey, cut him some slack. He'd be totally correct if your hack were tedious or boring. Or standard. Too bad it's not.

Really, though, inexplicable string of letters with not enough vowels, I can understand your hatred for A the S. He's one of the easiest to hate people I know. Even I hate him. Hate him so much.

But you might want to try, uh, fixing your hack instead of waiting around here complaining about his. Unless you want to complain with some sense, like about real problems. His hack plays differently than most of the hacks I know; it's not really standard. And if you really did find it boring or tedious, I suggest you tell why.

Huh. Yeah, this post is amazingly unnecessary. I should, you know. Not press "Submit reply". But, oh, there goes my mouse. To the button. What a shame.

Oh.. no.. It seems as if you said about me.

In my community, many of us pursue something new and some of us hate those who contradict our new outcome. But we did not criticize, but blame you..

I'm sorry about that. Our English comprehension is low so that we can't distinguish between polite words and rudes. Even I don't know which words are impudent. All that I can do is finding dictionary..

sorry.. I know that reply is worth D&R.
(in Idiom dictionary, D&R means ducking and running.. It catches my fancy. )
Though my fault, please understand...
(Also, I didn't intend to atack)

And your hack is cool!

It's fine

Like I said, I have no problems with you whatsoever. You make more sense than many natural English-speakers I know, and you seem to be a pretty cool guy. It's just, your hack needs some refining.

Here are some more.

Did I just smack my head? Yes, yes I did. Unusual because the sides of the grave can be jumped under.

That's just wrong, even given the bizarre theme of the level.

Whoops, my bad. (you can walk through the corner of the ledge)

1 I found out on my own after releasing it.
2 I have no idea what you're talking about.
3 is just me screwing up on the consistency of that platform and it's also been fixed.

Also, I'm quite pleased. When I released preliminary screenshots, many people complained about the only major thing drawn from scratch, the graveyard tileset, whereas now no one has

Can't number 2 be any more obvious? Try looking under the triangular platform.

Oh, that? That's completely intentional. It has to be like that for the triangle to work, of course... And I figured I'd slip in something ridiculous instead of dressing up the graphics "Because I could."

Also, no one has mentioned the problem of not being able to pass Harmony Island 1 with Yoshi, which I've also fixed.

This is what I've got so far of world four.

I'm probably going to do a little more editing, and the levels are VERY not done, but eh. You get the idea, hopefully.

For a water world, I've managed to make it conspicuously lacking in the matter of water levels. Two and a half out of nine by my count (as the last one there is part island, part sunken ghost ship). This also makes it by far my longest world yet. Still, at the rate I'm going, you can expect demo 1 - through this world - to come out by the end of february.

I'm assuming the paths don't work lined up like that

As for all the path splitting... there doesn't appear to be any real incentive to follow the secret path rather then the normal path (assuming the upper path is the secret path), since the switch palace is on the regular path. Of course I could be backwards.

As well, I never liked worlds that had two alternate paths to the same destination. Seems mostly a waste of Overworld starter levels to me

Ha ha. If you think the paths don't work lined up like that, I direct you to the rest of my overworld

As well, they're both the right path. There's nothing particularly secret about any of the exits... Except the ones leading to the ghost ship island are slightly hidden, as are the ones going to the secret level and the switch palace.
