I use YY-CHR and a ZSNES savestate with my intended Mario edit's fancy new pallete. It hasn't failed me yet, as I can easily copy and paste between YY-CHR and Paint Shop Pro.
That, and anyone who uses TLP is a godless communist.

Well obviously TLP is not that bad since I use it. And you can see that my sprites are quite top notch.

TLP ftw.

Because it's better than loading multiple files just to use a tile editor.

I use yy-chr, but sometimes I use Tile Molester too. It have 3bpp support. Ah, and Ronduque´s banned period has finished.

Perhaps this thread should be changed to "Favorite Tile Editor."

TLP, here.

Mainly because I don't feel like downloading anything else, and LM only exports TLP palette files.

Shame, you invalidated your entire post with one word.

Admittedly I don't use TM. Possibly because Java is a memory-eating heathen. I'll have to give it a shot sometime.

YY-CHR supports ZSNES savestates. No real difference, I find.

QFT

But we can make a new tile-editor thread in general rom hacking.

As for the original topic, it might actually be interesting to try and find a way to ASM hack a Yoshi-only game.

The way I would do it is to first edit all of Mario's tiles to make him invisible, and then work on finding a way to make it so that he's always riding Yoshi.
After that, a few other things would need to be tweaked. The hurt routine, for one. It would have to cause damage without making Yoshi run away.
Powerups could be modified to change Yoshi's color..

I might give it a stab sometime.

That would probably sound more convincing if I wasn't so lazy..

Oh, I see it...

Mushroom -> Weight, becomes yellow yoshi
Feather -> Wings, becomes blue yoshi
F. Flower -> Fireball attack, becomes red yoshi

When hit, Invisible Mario's physics are altered so he slides forward back onto yoshi.
Yoshi reverts to green if he has a power up, and dies if he's green. Since you lose Yoshi if you die while riding him, change the code so it doesn't do that (How? No clue...).

Oh, an alternative - when you swallow a red/blue/yellow shell, you get that power, and you lose the ability to use the tongue (Kind of like Kirby... with less stuff).

Oh... I got badly off-topic there... I use YY-CHR. It does whatever I need it to do, and it's the first one I was introduced to, soz. I use that.

On-topic (Changing Mario with someone else):

I've made a little ASM routine that you might find very interesting... I'll give you all the details when I release the first demo of my hack.

Off-topic (Fav. tile editors)

I used to work with Tile Layer Pro with is great, but now I'm using MrClick's TileEd 0.54... You can edit sprites directly on the tile arranger. (But you can only open one file at a time)

I really like where you're going with that train of thought. I definately think that sounds like the best way to go about doing it. (Definately the simplest.)

YY-CHR is definitely better than TLP, and I just open two separate windows and copy and paste between the two, though I've never tried tile molester, (never even heard of it actually).
