Alright, I'm new here and am willing to bet these are stupid questions. Please don't hurt me ;D 1. I've tried recording a new title screen, but after inserting the data from the save state, I either get no change at all, or a very weird instance where it uses the movements I put in, but in the original SMW environment, which causes Mario to run into that turtle - that activates Special Zone music and brings up a Game Over screen, then sends me in to play that demo section with no music. SUMMARY: How do I go about recording and inserting a new title screen animation? 2. I've done minimal OW changes as of now, but encountered a problem in the Valley of Bowser. I removed the Valley Fortress (since it's no longer a fortress stage) and replaced it with the "dug-up earth" cave entry spot. Thing is, I can't get the path above and below to match up right. Right now I have a path leading up to the Back Door stage from this modified level, and only half a path leading up to the modified level from the one under it (formerly VoB 1)...the second half is empty ground. EIther removing the path that's there or adding it in where it isn't would be fine...can anyone suggest a solution? If screenshots would help for anything, I can get them, but I'd need a little time as I'd have to move them between different computers. Thanks in advance! |

I'm betting that the C7 level change is what's behind the first problem, though I can't say for sure until I can get on the other computer later. As for the OW question, it's the light-colored path that's missing. I'll try what you said and see if it works. If not, I'll be back with a screenshot. |

The problem I had with the intro is no more, thankfully, but I still couldn't get the other thing fixed. I didn't edit the events, either. Since you asked: www11.brinkster.com/blackthorne2050/patherror.jpg It's probably just me being an idiot, so please try and be thorough if you answer. Thanks again... |

Alright, if I can't get it figured out by tonight, I'll take you up on that. Thanks either way for the offer!

I'm down to the last few levels in my game, and started work on a vertical level that's basically supposed to be like climbing up a mountain, so I have the cloudy sky background in place. The problem is that there is a section of background that's totally garbled and crap once I'm up high enough in the level. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I can upload a screenshot if this isn't making sense...

I've got most of the levels in my hack finished, and encountered a problem in Bowser's Castle. I''ve kept the old "room 1-4 + room 5-8" layout, but changed the rooms themselves. Room 6 is a dark vertical cave room, where most of it is comprised of running up various walls with the help of the purple triangle blocks. The problem is that when I test it out, I run toward the triangle and when Mario reaches the top, he doesn't continue up the wall. Instead, he stands up inside the wall and dies. Is there a specific way I have to place the triangles and the ground around them to get them working correctly, or do they require some sort of specific level type or something?

I've got it fixed now. Yes, they work in vertical levels, but the problem seemed to be also that I left it as a vertical layer 2 level (it used to be a shifting stone block room, but I no longer had a moving second layer). Between that and fixing the ground, it works perfectly now.

1. When testing my hack, I found out that when battling Bowser, Mario would bounce off the left edge of the screen, and instantly die if he touched the right side. Can anyone tell me what's causing this, or how to fix it? 2. How do I add the "no-Yoshi" intro to a level? |

I played around with the Bowser stage (on a second copy, of course) and it's working fine now. As for the Yoshi question, that's no good. I'd have done that already, except the box is already unchecked. Do I need to set a specific level type or make an overworld change or something? |

I was thinking that, but wasn't able to test at the time. Thanks for the information, I should be fine now.

My first attempt at a hack is near completion, and I want to get some opinions on some single-level palette changes I've made. Like them? Hate them? Suggestions? I bet you couldn't tell it was a fire stage, eh? I think the BG might be a little bright, but I didn't have a problem with it when testing the stage. A mountain stage, the colors are a bit odd but I like them. A ghost cave. The thing I'm not sure about is the redone lava. I don't know what I was thinking at the time, but I don't hate it outright. Open to suggestions, of course. Grasslands. Not much else to see here. An icy palace. Couldn't decide what color to use for the eyes of the Fuzzies, who are supposed to be electric sparks here. I just kinda picked one at random and kept it for a while. Sky castle. I just recently changed it to a dark-BG level as I thought the FG and BG were a little too close in color. Brief section of desert leading into a similarly-colored sandcastle-type palace stage. Complain, praise, criticize, make suggestions, whatever. I'm hoping for a few people's opinions on this... |

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed, most of it is just the result of playing around with colors (though one I ended up saving as a non-custom palette, thankfully I only used it one or two other times). The ice palette was the one I actually liked least and planned to change anyway, I just wasn't sure which way to go with it. Hopefully it'll end up better. And I took a shot of the sandcastle interior after that post, here it is: |

Well, it's better than I expected, so I can't complain. Anyway, I spent some time with the suggestions given and have been able to deal with most of it. I ended up removing the "lava" from the ghost cave, as it wasn't really important anyway. Pits are every bit as fatal ;D The changes I'm aiming toward but havent done yet include toning down the sand color in the last picture (now that I see them together, it's too yellow compared to the exterior sand) and slight changes to the ice/cloud stages. The ice palette is now almost identical to the one in the cloud picture, for which I have a change in mind that I stumbled upon. Once I'm finished I'll have shots of the significantly-changed ones... |

Next time around I plan on adding custom blocks, ExGFX, OW changes, and all that. With this one I just went with a level edit... How do these compare? The fire level with a darker BG. The haunted cavem in a slightly less purpley palette. Ice castle redone, I stole the palette from the original sky castle as a starting point. The electric stage with a better look at the BG, plus a different style of Fuzzy since I'm still avoiding ExGFX for this hack... Sky castle, now with a purple tint. Later area of the sky castle I forgot to show earlier. The sandcastle, now with a slightly less urinesque palette. (edited by AtmaDragonXT on 08-31-04 03:02 PM) |

Sort of an update before I can make the finishing touches on my hack. I'm not using any ExGFX or anything similar in this first attempt, it's strictly a level edit with what the game itself contains. What do you think? An ice palace. Would the colors be better off lighter? Sandcastle...not sure about the BG. Two shots of different areas of a sky castle. For a fire stage...which do you think looks better? Note that if I use the first, the ugly black dots in the background have been fixed, the shot is a little old. |

I've got a two-world demo of my first hack IPS'd and ready to go, but I need somewhere to upload it. Can anyone give me a good free site to use? Or if anyone else would be willing to host it for a while, that'd be appreciated, too. |
