naw, I wouldn't worry about the quality. I'm sure you know that you can do better if it were some big project, thus it looks fine for being thrown together.

another yoshi question:

the only word that yoshi can seem to say nowadays is "yoshi". But, in SMW yoshi seemed to have a lot to say to mario when they first met. Is this proof of the devolution of the yoshi race?

I'd like to see somebody make a graphics hack of Tiny Toons 1.

A SMB make over would work great.
buster=Mario
plucky=luigi
furball=toad
dizzy=princess ( be creative on the spin attack)
and
purple mouse guys=purple dinos from SMW

I'd do it, bit I suck at hacking. period. SO, if anybody is bored or wants to brush up on tile hacking skills, have at it!

tile molestor? that's a new one to me. i'll give that one a shot maybe. I think one major thing that hinders me is that the tile editor's palletes cannot show the in game sprite color.

wait, what? how. fceu is my favorite nes emu that shows the most accurrate color, plus i just dont like nesticle, but if i can edit using original color schemes, then I am all for it. Can tile layer pro do that too?

EDIT: HOLY CRAP! I can understand the tile layout for SMB2, but tiny toons is a nightmare in comparison. It doesn't make sense. things are all in odd places. btw, couldn't get nesticle to open roms, so I went with tile layer pro. there doesn't seem to be an "original color" option. yeah sure I can tell it to be certain colors, but that does no good when it turns everything the same color scheme.

okay, so what we've got so far is that yoshi always says yoshi, aside from a few other non-real words, and that it was a letter that mario encountered in SMW when he he first rescued Yoshi. And lemmy's land is pure fanfiction.

oh, but there is just one more thing. in SMW, after mario defeats a koopling and topples the fortress, the rescued yoshi egg bounces while exclaiming, "Thank you!". a dialouge balloon indicates that it is indeed the yoshi embreo responsible for the message. hmm.

I like goombas the best. Their illustrative interpretation looks cool.

this poll is focusing on SMB1, thus the chioces given. and Koopa troopas go back even further with mario when they were called shell creepers in the original Mario Bros.

AND (but this is trecthing it a bit) the fire guys from the original Donky Kong could be constrewed as a type of Fryguy or Podaboo. bogus? well, maybe a little

When I downloaded Tile Molester, I get an error which first states:

"no language files found
please check your installation"

followed by

"error reading language file
cant find bundle for base name language/languages, locale en_US"

I downloaded this from different sources (the TM website, Zophar.net, etc.) and i come up with the same problem.
If it is referring to the language_en_US.properties filethat it comes with, am I not placing it in the right file? I have it in the same file directory as the tm.jar file.

btw, i downloaded the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4.2 as was instructed already.

p.s.
wasn't sure if this should go in on the programming or software boards. I figured this topic still counts to rom hacking

I always figured SMB3 was going to have a bear suit in it. when i discovered the tanooki suit, I figured it was close enough. but the bear suit would allow mario to swipe/punch at enemies instead.

Ever notice in the insect kingdom how the leader is almost always a queen, and in the mammal kingdom it's the alhpa male?

But where does this put the yoshi's? are they a pack or a hive? Or either? off the top of my head I cannot not think of any lizards that work together in a group, nor amphibians for that matter.

although no real attachment is involved owning a TI-83 calculator, I still dropped 80 or more bucks on it back in high school.

years later back in college, I had just filled up our five gallon water jug at the grocery store (necessary when living in Arizona) and placed it in the back seat of my car. my book bag was in the passanger seat up front containing the calculator.

well, stupid me took a sharp turning forcing the water jug to spill in the back seat. this freaked me out and thus I slammed on the breaks. this, however, made the bookbag slide forward off the seat and onto the floor where inturn the flooding back seat water also decided to go.

ruined calculator

several days later in anger, I slammed it on the ground. picked it up and turned it on.

fixed calculator

I can't remember if it's in the game, the manual or both, but somewhere it says that Bowser trapped Yoshi's friends in eggs. They're not "yet to be born" Yoshies.

Well played my friend, you are correct. I believe bowser did encase them in eggs. the ending shows the eggs "hatching" to reveal the freed baby yoshies. and throughout the game, mario comes across yoshies also "hatching" out of eggs.

are all eggs a result of Bowser tampering? plus, they are never full grown right out of the egg, they either need to grow after hatching or after eating. can bowser only capture baby yoshies?

It was touched upon in the Zelda thread, But I'd like to bring up the topic of Emulation Ethics (unless there's a thread already for it )

The question is, how do you feel about emulating consoles new or old? Downloading roms while not owning the cart? etc.

yeah, but if a person does not know the first thing about Rom Hacking, how does he/she know what to search for in the first place? Rom hacking is a pretty wide categorey and each topic can get pretty in depth. It's tough starting out not knowing anything. Besides, alot of research time gets wasted by reading through the bullshit you really didn't need to know, but read it anyway.

I haven't tryed a DS yet, but it seems to me that the DS emu's touch screen/mouse function would be awkward during gameplay.

then again perhaps not

I forgot there was a general emulation thread, if anybody want's to move it (or can at all), then feel free.

In the Meantime,

my reasons for emu:

NES: to relive memories and to finally try all those games that were unattainable in my childhood. That and SMB3 is my favorite NES game

GB: See NES. That and Link's Awakening is my favorite GB game.

SNES: See Gameboy. That and Yoshi's Island is my favorite SNES game.

GBA: Once, to try Wario, but then played Wario. But then beat Wario. Then realized I no longer needed to purchase a GBA.

PSX: Own the system, just wanted to try the emulator. There are no real games on the net for it anyhow.

MAME: Play historic games such as pac-man. PLay old, but not too old games such as Simpsons. Play not quite new games such as Marvel vs Capcom. also, how the hell is it possible to own these machine in the first place without being filthy rich?

I dont bother with PS2, Xbox, or Game Cube. I own game cube for one, and I dont think an emulator of that scale would work well on my computer anyway.

Ever notice how the second game of a Video Game series is unique?

here are a couple of examples, please add to the list:

SMB2
Castelvania 2
Double dragon 2 (not so much different as it is better)
Ninja Gaiden 2 (same as DD2)
TMNT2 (not fair to say. the third installment is a rip off of the second, thus not different. But it is seen as the more popular of the tmnt games for the NES. In it's time at any rate. TMNT 1 gets more attention nowadays if at all.)
Mortal Kombat 2 (although I prefer MK3)
Street fighter 2 (not fair to list as there are a dozen SF2 editions)
Zelda 2

Well, I suppose I should reword myself there. Instead of being "better" it could also be seen as "more popular", as in, this particular game overshadowed the other games of that series. This overshadow means it can still be referred to as the black sheep in that there doesn't seem to be a reason why it's so much more popular.
