Check it out: The U.S. Census Bureau seems to have a record of a woman (?) named Celestin Chere from 1900: link You can also search for a description of the Chere family here: http://www.infokey.com/ "The Chere family traces their ancestral roots back to Anglo Saxon origin, and first appeared in ancient medieval records in Surrey." FF6's characters have a lot of European style surnames, so those surnames can be found on sites like these. Does anybody have info on other surnames? (BTW, Mod, can you go ahead and put the Palazzo thread under this? Thanks! ) (edited by Anya on 10-28-04 07:23 PM) |

Emptyeye, On the NSF, what track number has "Castle Pandemonium"? I think that FF2j has the best music on the old Nintendo. Its battle theme is only behind FF7's and FF9's battle themes. I like the trilling 32nd notes near the end of it, before it loops back. I also like FF2j's overworld theme. It's the first Final Fantasy with the chocobo theme, too! |

QUESTIONS: I'm thinking of making a hack, but I want to make sure some of my bases are covered first. Two big questions: 1. How do I coordinate the dialogue with the new characters on my FAQ (prefereably without doing ASM hacking)? 2. How do I coordinate events? Not just those between the Light and Dark World, but also those in dungeons. For example, in Level 2: Water Palace, pushing a switch will cause the water to be released in the dungeon. If I were to wipe the ROM and make a dungeon with that, how would I do it? Thanks if you could answer those questions! Alright. I guess this could be called: Zelda: Link's Sex Change Or something to that effect. Anyway, here are some screenshots (everything is in good taste!): Alright, here's the link: http://www.geocities.com/beneficii/altpgirl.zip Have fun! (edited by beneficii on 11-26-04 09:11 PM) |

Uchiha Itachi, Hi. Thanks for trying it out! Yes, I'm planning to make a hack with her as the main character. The plot so far is that the Bolsheviks led by Agahnim take over Hyrule. I'm going to have the beginning part use almost the same maps that the beginning, but as I go over time the map will be more and more original (as I get more comfortable editing maps), and the Dark World will probably be almost completely original (excepting probably the Pyramid and the area around Ganon's Tower because of event concerns). (But I'm gonna hack the inside of Ganon's Tower!) I'll also probably keep the bosses as they are. At the start, your character has to go into a cave east of Hyrule Castle's moat. The cave uses room 105, which was in the original game unused. But I'm having some problems with it. I set entrance 7D to it, but I can't seem to control the scrolling. The character comes into it fine, and the room has a cool misty effect. But if the character walks back out of the room the same way she came in, she warps to some weird unused room, and she can't get out. I'm using layout 1 for the room, with the room divided into two vertically long rooms side by side. This is the problem with the scrolling: My character starts coming out of the lower right door. When my character walks to the left edge of the half-room, you can see the other half-room. In the original game's maps, that never happened. I have scrolling for that entrance set only to vertical scroll, but it makes little difference. There is both vertical and horizontal scrolling. Also, the X Scroll is an issue. I read about that in your FAQ, too (which has been very helpful btw!). But the screen starts fine for entrance 7D as I modified it. Also, my character doesn't "walk" into the room, she appears out of nowhere into it. PM me if you want me to send a copy of my ROM for you to check out. Thanks! In the SNES version, I recall accessing the Chris Houlihan room from the hole that's one screen east of the graveyard (Light World). I only did that once, and sadly I don't have a save state for it, because I was playing the game on the console. That was the only time I accessed the Chris Houlihan room. This is a ROM I've been working on off and on. The first world is finished, which is called Communist Island. Essentially, the Communists take over the Mushroom Kingdom and you as Mario gotta stop them. Tell me what you think! Here it is. I FIXED IT AND TESTED IT! Apply the patch to an original, unexpanded version of the American Super Mario World: http://www.freewebs.com/beneficii/commiew.ips (edited by beneficii on 11-28-04 03:27 PM) (edited by beneficii on 11-28-04 03:48 PM) (edited by beneficii on 11-28-04 05:09 PM) (edited by beneficii on 11-28-04 05:51 PM) |

I fixed the Geocities problem. It seems there's a transfer limit for it, so I got a new hosting service. It is now downloadable again! Check the first post! BTW! In the game, you're fighting against the Communists! You're not fighting for them! It's more like Super Black Bros. 2 than Super KKK Bros. 2! Alright! It's been fixed! Check the link in the initial post! Just apply it to an original, unexpanded version of the ROM now! |

Kratos Aurion, Those are trees, but this won't be the final overworld. I'm going to have to look at how the original game does them. Thanks for pointing them out! Karadur, Thanks for your views! Ja, after I get done with the levels, I'm going to go in there and redo the whole overworld! I think I went too far ahead with the overworld, violating one of the points mentioned on the tips and hints thread: Do overworld with levels, or just do levels first, but don't jump ahead and do overworld first. Communist Island 1: I see what you're talking about. That was a problem with the mountains that I saw. I wonder how Super Mario World resolved it? I wanna try not to modify gfx as much as possible. About that platform, I can fix it in a jiffy. Thanks for pointing it out! Communist Island 2: Done. Communist Island 3: Good idea. I always forget the coins. They tend to come last, and they're a bit of work putting in. #1 Igor's Castle: Done. Eastern Island: I did this level somewhat sloppily. I think it can use an improvement. I wondered what caused the water to do that. Also, adding hills is something I can and should do. Other comments: Well, it was Communist Island, and red is often associated with communism. So I thought it appropriate, and at least not that much of an eyesore. Overworld: I can touch up that island. I actually wanted to see the varying elevations there. Editing maps with tiles is pretty difficult, because you gotta know where each tile has got to go where. It gets pretty tiring if you do too much at once, and that's pretty much what I did. Hosting: Freewebs is working better now and the link works. I think that's what I'm gonna use, at least until I find something else or if an issue comes up. When I posted the hack, the transfer rate was too much for my Geocities account. |
