Skreename, No, it was the easy-type version that was released in the U.S. for the Super Nintendo in 1991. MathOnNapkins, My favorite way required a turbo controller. Activate turbo and use some quarters or something to hold down the A button. You know before you fight Ultros for the first time you gotta go rafting? When you raft, set cursor memory to on, set all characters but Banon to fight, while setting Banon to health. Then, after saving, when you go for the second round of rafting, simply set turbo A on and leave it on for as long as you want. If you leave it on for a few days for example all your characters will be at level 99. It has to do with the way the question is asked on what direction you want to go. The first option will have you going in a circle. That way you can keep going and fighting battles for as long as you want, and you don't even have to be there! Banon's health technique will always be enough to keep your characters alive, and the amount healed increases every time he levels up! |

"But what, the fuck, is up with these new gen consoles that break after 3 minutes of game time? (sarcasm.)" Actually, that's exaggeration, not sarcasm. (edited by beneficii on 10-03-04 08:43 PM) |

I agree, Dancing Mad takes the cake. I love FFVI! Everything about that game is so unique from the other Final Fantasies! Dancing Mad is divided into four sections, the first three of which are Bach-style organ music and the fourth is a twisted rock song with organ, drums, and bass guitar! That's just the first part of the fourth section! The second part of the fourth section is a slow dance, which has the be the most beautiful thing I ever heard in Final Fantasy. Another thing unique about the game is its main villain. You notice that in every other Final Fantasy the main villain is very stoic and composed, and likes to use proper language and stuff. And though he kills a lot of people, he never seems to enjoy it? Kefka, the main villain of FFVI, is the complete opposite! Watch as he's giddy like a schoolgirl while he's poisoning Doma's water supply! He's jumping around, using vernacular, and just being a general, little bastard! He's a war criminal, but he likes what he does! I think he has ADHD, too. Anybody who has not listen to Kefka's theme and Dancing Mad and does not want to, or has but doesn't like it, is WRONG! |

I think you are all being quite alarmist. First off, if someone commits plagiarism, then that person will have to answer to this community and sometimes the law. Second, just about anybody with enough research and cracking abilities can get around FuSoYa's lock. One could simply log the ASM as an emulator executes the hack. Third, there are a lot of honest people on these boards, and they wouldn't rip graphics and try to pass them off as their own. Fourth, one would simply have to make a case that a person is committing plagiarism, and since the pace at which hacks would be developed would be not too much different than now, there would not be a heavy occurence of this. Believe it or not, people do like using their own stuff. Fifth, it would be stupid for someone to refuse to make hacks because of a threat of plagiarism that's existed from the start. Isn't it supposed to be a fun exercise? Sixth, last but not least, how are you guys going to stop something like this from coming out? Are you going to try to get a law passed banning it? Are you going to hack and mess up websites that put these up? The most you guys could do legally is a boycott of the sites that put the program, but that won't stop those who want and like the program from getting it. Of course, if someone plagiarizes a hack, then legal action could be taken.

Each Final Fantasy seems to have its own cultural/time setting. I'll list what I think they are: FF1: Medieval Japan/Europe FF2: Medieval Japan/Europe FF3: Medieval Japan/Europe FF4: Medieval Japan/Europe FF5: Medieval Japan/High Middle Ages Europe FF6: 19th Century Europe/America FF7: Near Future Japan/West FF8: Near Future Japan/West FF9: Europe During the Age of Discovery (ca. Turn of 17th Century) FF10: Southeast Asia (Time?) Of course certain towns/countries in each of the games may fall into a different cultural setting (The Veldt in FF6, Qu's Marsh in FF9), and the games may not match it perfectly. Nevertheless, this is the sort of atmosphere of those times that I get. In FF6, the World of Balance overworld theme sounds like something from an Old Western, a lot of the characters (the woman dancers, Edgar, Setzer, a lot of the townspeople) dress like they're from 19th Century Europe, and a lot of the towns look like they're from that particular time/place, and the music fits it (Opera, Spinach Rag, etc.). I wonder what other people's opinions of it are. |

Hiryuu, I don't see what's so bad about bumping old threads. If they're decent and somebody's got new input, it shouldn't be a problem. I think it's better than starting a new thread on a subject that's already got a thread covering it. That way all that content can stay in one place and be easily looked at. |

Whoa! I don't mean to troll on this board or anything. Perhaps the leadership here could change that rule a bit. I agree with you, those one line posts are annoying. They add nothing to the discussions here. Nevertheless, I will tread more carefully on this board from now on. Thanks for the tip! |

Ziffski, "To say that you can draw cultural parallels between these games and actual reality is a slight bit off, arguing from the stand-point of a pretentious humanities bastard, these are simply fantasy tales that as Northworp Frye would've put it...Draw on the herito-cultural movements at the time and relate to the antropological base of all literature." I covered that statement: "Of course certain towns/countries in each of the games may fall into a different cultural setting (The Veldt in FF6, Qu's Marsh in FF9), and the games may not match it perfectly. Nevertheless, this is the sort of atmosphere of those times that I get." Anyway, FF7 having obscure Protestant references and Norse mythos? I didn't get that at all. It seemed to me to have heavy Jewish themes more than anything else. After all, there's a chosen people (the Cetra aka the Ancients), a Promised Land, and Sephiroth (which is a reference to Jewish mysticism I believe, either way it's Hebrew in origin). As far as a specific culture, I couldn't get such in either 7 or 8. They just seem like near-futuristic worlds that enmesh cultures from all over the world. I agree with you about FF9. After all, the Age of Discovery does sorta equal the Renaissance. I remember Lord Avon's play I Want To Be Your Canary from that game, which is very Shakespearian. I picked Age of Discovery instead of the Renaissance, because you go exploring in that game. |

ChibiTaryn, Strange. I just watched the first two episodes last weekend. My friend came home from college for fall break with those DVDs in hand. Again, I watched the first two episodes, but couldn't passed them. I don't know what came over me; I just didn't like it that much. It just seemed so flippantly silly in parts and yet totally boring in others: I couldn't catch on. Perhaps when my friend comes home for Thanksgiving, I can bear a couple more episodes. EDIT: Oh yeah! The one other thing that got to me: The characters had thick southern accents! I thought this was supposed to take place in Japan. (edited by beneficii on 10-20-04 12:59 AM) |

Yeah! Cyberpunk! That was the other thing I was looking for too! No wonder FF7 became so popular! It came out just when the cyberpunk culture really started coming out!

It's this smilie right here: That smilie looks like some caricatures of George Bush I have seen! Believe me, I have seen quite a bit, but none that so closely matches that of the president.

Classic! http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html After I captures the hero's superweapon, I will not immediately disband my legions and relax my guard because I believe whoever holds the weapon is unstoppable. After all, the hero held the weapon and I took it from him. |
