Well, I'm back on the SMW hacking "scene"...most of you probably don't remember me, but after working too much on Zelda Classic I decided to drop by here again...I started fooling around with LM and what do you know--I made a basic overworld! So, I'm going to reuse some old levels of mine, make a bunch more new levels...and tada!

Anyway, enough about LM...Yeah, I guess I'm new again. Hiya, again.

For the sprite problem, move Mario's start sprite one or two "clicks" above where you want him to appear. Apparently, the ROM saves his position lower than you place it...

Ok, I finished the demo...didn't get the secret exit but I think I know how (just don't want to replay the line grind. ) Graphics are very good (love the Iggy's Line Grind enemies), while not detracting from the gameplay. Difficulty/gameplay is fine, although starting with the standard 5 lives would have helped me a little (I couldn't find any 1ups besides the Yoshi coins.)

Cons:
Iggy's castle left a little to be desired.
The bonus room in level 1 requires you to use the P-switch effectively. Yeah, it's easy, but if you screw it up, you have to kill yourself by running out the time. Try not to do these if there's a HUGE penalty for failing.
You can't see the line guides on the black background, although that may be intentional.

Overall, excellent hack! Better than 75% of what I've seen, easily. Just don't get too bogged down in graphics.

But... when I open up the original SMW, I press the Overworld Editor in LM and it shows the overworld I was just editing, not the original SMW overworld! I have to exit LM in order to change the overworld. Could this be fixed?


Just hit the "Reload Overworld and Discard Unsaved Changes" button (the first one.)

From what I've seen from Mario Adventure (which uses multiple Boombooms in the same room) I would expect that as soon as you kill one of the Big Boo Bosses, you instantly clear the level. Probably not the desired effect, but at least it adds some challenge.

Ok, I played most of it, and it's generally good...it just seems like there's something missing. I opened the levels up in LM to try to explain myself, and here's what I found:

-Secret exits were way too easy. I didn't find one in Water Secret 1, but I don't think there is one yet.
-Don't use note blocks in castles; they create glitched graphics when bounced on.
-Level 4 was quite boring. Who wants to swim through water when the only obstacles are blocks in a row and fish?
-The "Show Level Message 1" at the start of the level is annoying after I've died multiple times already. Make it a message block.
-Some levels are a great length (intro level) while others are really short (102, 9)
-The brown blocks that "might be walkable, might not" are also annoying.

It's a fine hack already, but fix those and you've got yourself a great hack.
