I found a bunch of ASCII porn. It's somehow more disturbing than regular porn.

This was due to prompting from an IRC conversation.

Just goes to show that IRC kills babies.

EditPad Pro has some very nice features that EditPlus lacks, such as highlighting corresponding parentheses, braces, etc (very useful) and full support for heredoc syntax, as well as a more helpful regex find (and replace) interface. However, I have a couple of problems with it which prevent me from switching to it. One, the various options in the menus don't have any form of checkmarks or anything that say whether they're active or not. Some of these have equivalents on the toolbar that are look like pressed buttons when they're active, but some don't, and it's inconvenient to have to experiment to find out whether or not they're on. Two, the "view in browser" option doesn't do anything at all. I checked the manual, and it said something along the lines of "if this doesn't work, your browser is configured incorrectly" which is not at all fucking helpful. (Actually, it seems to work with .html files, which open in my default browser. PHP files, it does nothing with. I don't know how to fix this. It certainly doesn't go by file associations, because it opens .txt files in notepad.) Speaking of preview in browser, EditPlus has a nice option where if a file is in a certain directory, it can replace that with something I specify, such as replacing G:\Apache2\htdocs\whatever with http://127.0.0.1/whatever so I can preview my PHP shit easily. I couldn't find any such option in EditPad Pro, which seems odd because it covers so many other bases and that seems like a really good one. Also, I can't easily customize the syntax coloring (or if I can, it's not readily apparent how), so I can't change the text to light-on-dark as opposed to the eyeball-boiling dark-on-light it is now. Oh, also it doesn't integrate into the Windows context menus like EditPlus very handily does. Still, aside from these things EditPad Pro >= EditPlus in every regard.

Yeah, unless you have some kind of disorder that makes you ride roller coasters all the time. Which is kind of what I think of when you say the dangers of a roller coaster are "natural."

Yeah, that happens. It destroyed two modems before I thought to get a surge protector with a phone line in/out. 'Course, it doesn't matter since I'm not a filthy unwashed modem user anymore.

That goes for EVERYONE, with ANY stylesheet changes. If you don't specify that it's only for your layout your style applies to everything.

Oh, except you should use class="whatever" instead of id="whatever" and use dot (.) instead of pound (#). That's because an element with a certain ID is only supposed to occur once per page, which isn't the case if you post more than once in the same page of a thread. Browser behavior in that case is undefined. So use dots and classes instead of pounds and ids.

Yes, thank you. I know how PHP works. What I'm saying is the "view in browser" option does not open my browser when I have a PHP file open in the editor. Naturally it would also need to go through my local server as I was saying EditPlus has the ability to do automatically. I was figuring that if EditPad Pro had a "view in browser" option available for PHP files, it might have some configuration available which would make that option useful. I'll try the tools thing for that as Jesper suggested.

Probably not. Chances are, anything that would get past a simple board filter would also get past the school's filter. I doubt it would catch anything much more complicated than spacing out the letters.

As I understand it, the issue is preventing the board from getting stopped by other filters, rather than avoiding offending poeple. Nobody except jews and canadians want to avoid offending people.

I'd like to add something, even though Jesper already rocked everyone's face off:

To everyone who said the w3c "shoves their standards down your throat" or something (Elric mostly, wtf dude), look at what you do to make links change colors when you mouse over them.
Did all the major browsers simultaneously implement CSS capability on a whim?
No, the W3C made CSS the standard and then browsers started implementing it. That's how it works. The browsers are built around the standard. The problem is, most HTML is built around the browsers, not the standard, and the browsers are lenient in their interpretation because user-friendly is the thing to be.

The web is, and always has been, about accessibility. Right now the major browsers are, apparently, IE and Mozilla (and, just to appease Xkeeper, Opera). Everyone can access it (ostensibly) and everyone can add to it (ideally). That means not everyone's going to do things the same way, and that's fine. However, if you want the maximum amount of people to visit a site, it helps a lot if it's accessible by everyone. The reason there's a standard is that poeple are supposed to be able to access the web through more than just the selection of browsers created by large companies. Anyone can see how to write proper HTML, and anyone can write a user agent (browser) that can interpret it. If there wasn't a standard, then right now html usage would be dictated by IE alone. Any other browser would be more like a clone attempt than a true alternative.

Now, many of you might say that if someone wasn't using a major browser and wanted to access the board, they could just go fuck themselves.

Okay, the board code works in the major browsers. And most poeple use the major browsers. And most poeple won't care if poeple who don't use the major browsers can't access the site. I'll grant that. After a lot of tweaking and bugfixing, the board's messy code works for most people. That's true. No denying it.
I'll just stop there, I lost my train of thought.

Also: a broken link is not a syntax error. The standard does NOT specify that XHTML should no longer be parsed after a broken link; after all, most of the use of an image's alt attribute is when the image fails to load.

I'm not sure, but I believe the file system on a CD gives the files no intrinsic order. Have you tried it in another player? Maybe your DVD player is set on shuffle mode for some reason.

A couple of Talking Heads songs are okay.
Although I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan anymore, I still enjoy a whole lot of their songs. (Have a Cigar is one I've been blasting repeatedly.)
