I never got to play the first Wizards and Warriors, but I always wanted to. Ironsword looked so cool in Nintendo Power, but then I rented it and got annoyed pretty quickly because, as I recall, the sword was pretty much useless and you had to somehow jump into enemies to kill them. I remember that I at least got to the cloud level, though. Maybe I ought to give it another shot.

I love this movie, partially because I am a frustrated office worker. My job could be a lot worse, but I'm significantly underpaid and sick of busting my ass with nothing to show for it but more work to do and a $1/hour raise that took effect after the end of that godforsaken year. To make matters even more fun, the company is getting more organized because we want to pull in bigger customers and evidently they need to be confident in our abilities or something. For some unknown reason, in my group, that entails keeping logs of exactly what we did and how many hours we spent on each individual thing. Now, keeping track of hours per project makes sense because it's important for billing. Making a list of what you got done or worked on is fine as well because it lets management see what you're up to. What I'm talking about is "Fixed the map page - 1 hr. Worked on the admin panel - 2.5 hr." and so on and so forth. It's complete micromanagement horseshit. How does this relate to the thread? My office mate called the one he made last week a Time-Productivity Summary Report...and the person we have to send them to liked the joke. Somehow, I don't think the format of these things was his idea.

Jizzy - Very well said.

Yiffy Kitten - I don't see you as a burden. For your sake, it might be best for you to take a break from the board until the dust settles and you get a chance to calm down, but I like having you around, and I would be disappointed to see you leave entirely.

dan makes a great point that I hadn't even considered. People and businesses who build computers for others might very well install illegal copies of Windows on them. In fact, a local computer store recently got busted for this (and they had even been previously warned by Microsoft to knock it off...talk about a bunch of greedy nimrods...the store, I mean, not Microsoft ). Joe Sixpack probably doesn't even know what an operating system is, let alone comprehends that Windows is commercial software that must be licensed. Average people seem to see Windows as some nebulous part of the computer ("My Windows isn't working") assuming they even pay much attention to its existence at all.

I forgot to mention that one of the managers at work actually has a red Swingline stapler. His wife got it for him because he likes the movie. We've been sending our TPS reports by email, but we might start printing them out just so we'll have an excuse to use that stapler on them. This particular manager would be amused.

I've never tried any MMORPG's, but I just know that they wouldn't be my thing. I have to be able to play games for short amounts of time and put them down when I want to. Rando likes to play FFXI, and sometimes he gets stuck because he'll be partying with people and everyone has to help everyone else level up or get the item they need or whatever. That's fair and understandable, but it also means that you're committed to a significant block of time.

A bunch of our friends are on FFXI and all play together, and it's fun to sit by the computer and read the chat, but I wouldn't want to get into the game just for that. I just have Rando say hi to everybody for me.

I got Kirby, which amuses me because he's my character of choice. I never figured out how to get back on the platform very well with anybody else. I know how to do the midair jump, but it only seems to work once and if I'm too far away, I croak. With Kirby, I can get back on unless I was smashed off or something. I never figured out how to do the smash attacks, either. I'm such a button masher...

Yoshi Dude, it's tough to say what the best approach is for your mom without knowing how well she likes her current plan. If she's eating plenty of lean protein, not going overboard on the saturated fat, and making sure to get enough vegetables, and she feels good and is able to work out like she wants to, then I'd say it's a good plan for her. The CKD (see link above for an explanation) is great for me because I feel fine on both my dieting and my carb load days, I'm losing stubborn bodyfat, and I'm able to continue lifting heavy so I won't lose muscle along with it. If I felt crappy, I would pick a different diet.

I've been running Debian unstable for a while, and I prefer to install software using apt whenever possible. (It makes my life easier, and I'm lazy, too. ) FCEU and Visual Boy Advance have been packaged for Debian, and they're great emulators, so I'd suggest going with them. I can't help you with Genesis emulators, though...I don't even know which ones are good because I haven't played with any in years.

I just need some more vegan recipies.. because I freaking lovee fresh, vegitables.

Do you like Japanese food? I adapted a random soup recipe that I found online into the following recipe, and I loved the way it turned out.

Basic Japanese-ish Soup

8 cups mushroom broth
3/4 pound daikon radish, peeled and chopped into small chunks
2 cups bok choy, chopped up
1 pound firm tofu, sliced
About a tablespoon of fresh ginger, minced
2 eggs, beaten
Green onions, chopped (just use however much you like as a garnish)
Sesame oil
Soy sauce

Bring the broth, daikon, and ginger to a boil and then simmer for 20 minutes or until the daikon is tender. While the daikon cooks, stir-fry the tofu over medium heat in the soy sauce and sesame oil. After it's done, bring the soup back to a boil, add the bok choy, and boil for 5 minutes. At some point while the soup is still boiling, drizzle in the beaten egg and add the tofu. Serve with green onions sprinkled on top.

This recipe makes about six hearty bowls. The soup can be refrigerated and reheated (and it tastes great as leftovers...I just had the last of this batch earlier tonight).

Notes

According to my estimates, each bowl has about 130 calories and 14 grams of protein. (This varies depending on the broth, tofu, and eggs you use. It's best to get a very firm tofu with lots of protein and little fat.) The vegetables are very low-cal, and they contain a decent amount of fiber and certain vitamins.

To make this soup vegan, simply omit the egg. Trust me, there's plenty of good stuff in there without it. Conversely, those who prefer meat can cook up some chicken or whatnot instead of tofu. I made this with mushroom broth because I don't eat meat, I didn't want to take the time to prepare my own broth (and the grocery store has a very good selection of premade soup bases in cartons), and traditional Japanese soup stock gets most of its flavor from shiitake mushrooms, so I figured it was the best choice. If you don't like the flavor of mushrooms, use a more generic vegetable broth. A meat-based broth would work as well.

Be aware that the soup is subtly flavored. Those who only like strong tastes will probably find it bland.

What sort of info are you looking for? For FAQs and reviews, I just go to GameFAQs. It does have ads, but Firefox + AdBlock kills 'em off. As far as the boards go, they vary very widely in quality. The extremely popular game boards tend to move fast and have assloads of dumb people, but there's still good information to be found, and the quieter game boards (at least for the games I like) are usually decent to great. You just have to try to ignore the stupidity when it appears.
