Yeah, we could make a competition, but finding a good prize is harder. And I don't think a lot of people will be happy with just a title.

Hmm, yeah, we can't really start a competition without any rules.

And the winning GFX would also get a note on the ExGFX Workshop page. So people'll know this one won the competition. We'll also need a jury, of course, jury members may not participate in the competition for this could lead to unfair things. (And no, I'm not accusing anyone of anything. ) And I like the idea of how you'd have to release an IPS patch with your graphics, the level should not be great gameplay-wise but it should show how to use the graphics correctly et cetera.

And yes, once the competition has started, a date will be set on wich all sets have to be in, every user can only submit one file, if you decide to submit a new one you may only exchange with the old one. Once it has started no more competitors will be accepted.

Yeah, there should be more people like Bouche, that would seriously help the music hacking industry, because, come on, how many people actually know how to edit SPCs in a hex editor, how to find them, how to switch them around et cetera? Not many if I recall correctly.

Say, would you mind releasing a small example VBP? Not exactly for this editor maybe, but for some other small game, so people can learn how to make LEVEL editors, because, boy, I can't figure that one out. Or maybe a tutorial?

You can use the tools that come with EliteMap for sprite editing and such. I think it even support text editing. (Pretty sure it did.)

But if you really want to go oldschool then get a hex editor that support table files, a table file is a file that has the hex values for each character used in the game. If you load the ROM and then load the table file you'll be able to edit all the in-game text, unless it's compressed that is.

There's NO WAY IN HELL I'm allowing JPG screens, but otherwise I'm with you on this.

I agree, JPGs ruin the whole screenshot if one does not know how to make them correctly. But you can't really forbid people making JPGs, not everyone is able to make PNGs, ya know.

If you mean Visual Basic (I've not seen it abbreviated as VBP before), my first suggestion is to avoid it like the plague. Its woefully inadequate in all of its various versions. Learn VC++ (MFC) or C# (.NET) instead.

I think it would be great if someone could design a "universal" editor that uses template files to define how a game's level data is stored.

Oye flippin' vay. That would require so much work it'd be ludicrous to even imagine such an editor. It'd basically be 145,649 editors shoved into an itty bitty living space. Bleh.

We might as well write one editor and modify all of the ROMs so that they conform to its spec. It'd be about the same effect.

Yeah, VBP stands for Visual Basic Project, it's the project file.
I would like to use VC++ but seeing how I know nothing about C/C++ I can't really do anything, I don't even have a clue on how to get started. :O

I can't find a copy, I've lost the link to this French site with each and every single ROM on there (SNES ROMs), you could only download one ROM every 300 seconds though.

NOTE: This is a subtle hint for if anyone knows what page I'm talking about, you know what to do.
