As I recall, you were one of those "defy authority and question everything for its own sake" types. I remember disagreeing with the way you got banned, but only because you had gotten so many chances (Believe it or not, it WASN'T just Hiryuu that wanted you gone) that we could've just waited for you to shoot yourself in the foot and you would have done it eventually. |
And the fact that it took you less than five posts to start shit completely unprovoked doesn't exactly cause me to have a lot of faith in you. Though as I've ALSO said more than once, I'd love for you to prove me wrong. (edited by Emptyeye on 05-07-05 09:03 AM)

Horn is a great producer, no doubt about that. I never realized how much stuff he did behind the board until I stumbled upon something about a Produced by Trevor Horn compilation. A wider variety of work than I would have imagined. |
Looking at that (Admittedly not the most official of sources), it appears he actually co-wrote "All The Things She Said", though I don't know how big his contribution actually was. He's a fine musician, too...Drama is the black sheep of the pre-90125 Yes catalog, mainly because Jon Anderson doesn't sing on it. Sad, because it's one of my favorite Yes albums. And of course he gets major pop culture points for "Video Killed the Radio Star". Yeah, Trevor Horn is the man.  (restricted) |

The core of it was this: His perma came out of nowhere and was based on his past behavior (Which it took him less than five posts to regress to). I disagreed with this, but only on the grounds that we could have simply waited for him to make a post like what I linked to and gotten him then, rather than doing it proactively. And there was the whole IRC thing...suffice to say I knew exactly how that was going to play out, and it did.

That Manda thing is interesting. As far as I understand what led up to that, she was all happy-go-lucky at one point, then went utterly postal at some point which led to her getting banned. For some reason, I don't remember this new chapter in the legacy...roughly when was it? (restricted) |

Like I've said, maybe he'll prove me wrong and he's actually changed his ways. If so, great, though I think you'll understand when I say he has a reputation that precedes him, and he's going to have to work damn hard to erase that in my eyes. |
That, and pretty much all of the people he thought were "conspiring" against him are off staff now, so if he messes it up, he has no one to blame but himself.

 Knuck said something about how he was banned was not saying bless you when Hiryuu sneezed...obviously he wasn't being serious, but the implication was that Hiryuu had it in for him and he (Knuck) was the victim of some administrative persecution. I know precisely what Drama is. It's a 1980 Yes album with Trevor Horn on Vocals, Geoff Downes on Keyboard, Chris Squire on Bass, Steve Howe on Guitar, and Alan White on Drums. One of their best and most underrated albums. |
No, but seriously, the problem isn't so much that the serious issues AREN'T drama per se, but rather that they erupt into such and almost invariably devolve into personal attacks as two sides each attack the other. As far as the comparison to GameFAQs goes, you're right in that this is a much smaller community, and is thus of a more personal nature in terms of staff interaction with regular posters. But my point was that the staff of GameFAQs gives more "last chances" than the United Nations gave Saddam Hussein. Regardless of whether the bans in question were just or not--and I've already given my opinions on that based on what I know--a so-called "perma-ban" is slowly starting to have less and less meaning here, and I'd rather not the perception of staff be a bunch of spineless jellyfish who are afraid to stick to their guns when it comes to bans (A la GameFAQs). This is, admittedly, a somewhat seperate issue from whether said bans are just or not, but it's another one that I feel should be addressed.
