| Okay, so I got an external TV tuner for Christmas, so I could back up tapes of me playing video games and whatnot. The problem is that I can't get video to display on my screen...audio works fine. Here's more detail: I have found that I am unable to view video from a VHS tape when hooked to the card through composite A/V cables (Audio works fine). When hooked to the S-video cable, video displays fine; however, the unit in question is a DVD/VCR, and only the DVD portion supports S-Video (The reason I received the card in the first place was to convert VHS tapes to DVDs). When attempting to record to a file, nothing at all--video or audio--is actually stored in the file. I tried hooking the VCR up to a TV using the same cables, and it played fine, so the cables are not the problem. Likewise, I updated both the UltraMedia TV software and the drivers for my video card; both failed to help. Lastly, on a whim, I set my graphics card's hardware acceleration to None. This, too, did not solve the problem. (Additional information: The hardware acceleration was done because I looked up the knowledge base of the company--AVerMedia (The card is an AVerMedia UltraTV USB 300)--and it said that the display locked up with a certain NVidia video card. It wasn't mine, but I figured I'd try it anyway. Also, it isn't just the software provided with the card; I tried VirtualDub and was basically unable to get anything--video or audio--out of it) Anyone? A problem which may or may not be related: Despite the fact that this computer is roughly 6 months old, going to Control Panel and System gives seemingly random numbers for my processor speed. The most common number is 398MHz, which I know is far slower than the actual processor speed (If I recall correctly, the actual speed should be 1.6Ghz, about the equivilant of a 3GHz Pentium 4). Could the problem be that the program thinks my computer is slower than it really is, and if so, can I fix this? |
