This thread got violent in a hurry. O.o I'd also like to say that if you just take a cursory glance at it, it's reminiscent of one of those "I want 2 mak an rpg wut do i dew" posts on the Game Programming board at GameFAQs. And as you know, those people are usually being dead serious. It's scary stuff. |

Yeah, but watch what happens to the damage the Sworms do to you as you gain levels. It actually INCREASES. Or at least it did in the original, they may have fixed that in the GBA. Of course, if fixing that came at the price of the "OOPS u saved at the rong tiem SAY BYE 2 UR HOURS OF WERK LOLOLOL!1!!1" glitch being introduced...I'll take the armor quirk any day. And I'll just throw out that DW was my first RPG. I played it at age....6, I think it was. With a lot of help from the family, of course, but still. |

Well, you can get Ys I on both NES and the Master System, and Ys II on NES, (Fan translations) which will give you a basic idea of the gameplay...you should really find the Turbo CD version to get the full effect, though. Not that they're not fun games without all the enhancements the T-CD provides, but honestly, it's a cosmetics (And I include sound in this) that elevates them from "Good-to-great game" to masterpieces. ALSO: Nightshade on NES is another great game that no one has heard of. |

I'm curious as to whether this font--the one used in the staus windows and the like-- is one of the Windows standard fonts. It seems to be used in a lot of NES games besides Dragon Warrior (Just look at it sometime and you'll see what I mean). I've found a custom-made font, but I'm thinking of making a modification to my layout here, and so I'd like it if someone besides me had the font.

There is. The "target" attribute specifies which window you want the link to open in (Hence "target=blank" will open it in a new window). "Top" is whatever happens to be the top window at the time, so it's telling it to open the link in the current window. |

I've mentioned this in a couple of places, but I'm eventually going to attempt a text-based RPG wherein you're an Angel of God, and your basic goal is to go into Hell and destroy Satan. In other words, the opposite of the "Kill God BUT IT'S NOT REALLY GOD IT'S A SYMBOL!!!!" motif Square has used in every game they've made for the past seven years.

Glad to hear that it went well for you. I myself just got a job for the summer as well. Hooray for having money.

Yeah, I have to agree that the black-and-white didn't really work for Clerks. I would've prefered it in color (Note that Pi--one of my favorite movies of all-time, is black-and-white, so it's not just a case of "lol blak an wite is OLD get with teh TIMEZ LOLOL"), I think. By the way, Slient Bob says "No ticket!" in Dogma, at the very least. |

Yeah...it was a very strange way of calculating damage, though, either way. In any event: I made it to Dracolord in the GBC version today. His first form is a lot harder than on the NES ("That 115 damage Critical Hit on the second round didn't kill him? What the...HEALMORE?!"). Then his second form flamed me to death before I ever got a spell off. I was level 18. Oh well. |

I think the better lesson to be learned here is "Don't drink alcohol at age 13", but that's just me.

Yeah, our house is at basically the highest point in Waterbury, so we're good as far as major flooding goes. We DO get water in our basement, but as that's nothing more than a glorified storage area, it's all good. |

Funny thing...I think I actually joined the board before I knew what it was all about...all I knew was that Kiwibonga based his boards off of Acmlmboard. Yay for me. In any event, welcome. Have fun and the like. |

I've heard that Konami is supposed to eventually port it to the US, but we'll see what happens. Last I knew, GameFAQs had a 10/01/04 release date, while Gamespot just said TBA. Wanderers of Ys really has little to do with he rest of the series, particularly in gameplay terms. You can easily compare it to, say, Castlevania II in relation to the rest of the CV series in that regard. |

That's what I thought too, Adamant. Apparently Enix changed their philosophy on that between 1989 and 2000 (The GBC release). It was actually hard enough that I was like "Geez, maybe I won't have to fight the second form....nope, there he is. Oh look, he's attacking first...so much for that Healmore." And PS2 and 3 save fine; it's just PS1 that has the problem. |

I have to agree with Spike. I mean, c'mon, he pukes up a huge spiked ball and then tosses it at you! It doesn't get any cooler than that! |

I believe there's a 3-post per day limit in the ACS thread ONLY, the logic (As I heard it) being that there's really not THAT much to talk about there. Everything else is still fair game, from my understanding. |

Yeah, you can check Zophar's, though I highly doubt that any desktop computer today would be powerful enough to run one, even if it were fully operational. And as Neko said, good luck finding games to download for it. Unless you already have them, in which case buying a PS2 would be MUCH simpler. |

For some reason, I always loved the Mario 3 battle. Getting him to fall down a hole because of his own massive size is instant hilarity.

I wonder if it would be called suffering, though. My great-grandmother is 94, and she has basically complete memory loss. My mom and her cousin visited her not long ago, and from what they described, it was as if she were a small child. They'd send her down the hall in her wheelchair and she'd go "whee!" So I wonder if it's basically a return to that childlike naivety, for lack of a better word. In any event, RIP Ronald Reagan. For the public to love you that much after 2 terms in office, you obviously did something right. |
