memory parity error? sounds like in exchanging the sound card you might have bumped something to damage the memory. i don't think it is a software thing but it just could be age that has caused memory problems. dust is also another factor.

wow...we haven't seen parity like this in a few weeks--not sure if this will continue; it's like...it doesn't take much to place anymore

I agree with kawa's perspective. Program languages are just tools. It's your choice to say which tool you want to use to accomplish your task. For example, there are two ways to nail stuff in the world, to use a hammer or a nail gun. If you are nailing one thing, then a hammer should be just fine. But if you are going to build a deck, then maybe a nail gun would be better. Programming languages are just the same. There are certain things that make VB easier to use than C and vice versa. However, if you can use C to do what VB or any other language gives you, then good for you because I don't care. But yeah, if people ask for help for a language, give them help in that language. You can suggest that another language can make it easier for the person but it is in the end up to the person you asked for help to decided whether to try that route. If they choose not to go with your suggestion, then shut up and either help the person with the way they want to be helped or move on.

actually, if you have the right pressure, then it depends on whether it melts or not. Sure the material may actually combust first before melting but it depends on the pressure whether it liquefies.

I've learned them--I haven't used them yet in my software engineering career. I know they help you generate a general solution to your problem but I haven't really applied it to any other class. I have yet to start working so I dunno how much it is used there.

Well, I know some program is conflicting with the service pack 2. So anyone have any programs to suggest to remove the conflictin programs? cause removing the service pack aint gonna happen. I ran Registry Mechanic. But that didnt get it. But I'll try anything else. I'm tired of this shutting off on me.
Here is the list put out by microsoft: Programs that are known to lose functionality

As for SP2, I never tried upgrading the system to SP2 a non-virgin installation of XP. So, maybe you can just reinstall the OS, upgrade to SP2, and then reinstall all your programs. After all, XP can be reinstalled WITHOUT formatting your computer.

giving memory directly? no you can. but you can help the situation by closing any program you are not using. that way, more of active memory can be devoted to the program you running.

wow...very surreal

well, problem with eisenhower's statement is all three things need to happen.. I know bush is going to mess with social security but I'm not sure about those other two things. If bush is really messing with all three...then eisenhower just predicted the downfall of his own party

Are you home schooled?

If not, then what is the ethic make up of your school? i don't think it matters that much. At my school, there was no majority ethnicity--as a result, getting top grades was fair game although the honors level were dominated by asians... so yeah, i dunno, it seems that it is futile to say that american born individuals can't be productive in their lives. doing well all depends on your ability to deal with the system and make the most of it. it is sad that education is not uniform but it is every student's responsiblity to do well regardless of what they are given

Posted on 05-24-05 07:02 AM, in Bitorrent/torrents download help Link
(1) how many seeders are there? if there are none, then that reduces your chances of downloading 100%

(2) how many complete copies are there? if it says 1 + the percentage you have, then there are no complete copies out there. anything not that means you have a chance.

(3) what client are you using? some clients give you better picture of what is going on.

(4) how old was the torrent you d/l? the data at the time you d/l the torrent may have incorrectly showed who was on.

I'd try using another client to see if you get better results. There are some trackers that reject certain clients and those trackers are the ones with access to other peers that may have the data you need.

At the same time, the seeds you do see may not be connectable. This is a new insight I have just learned. There are various reasons why they are not connectable. These reasons range from the peer running out of connections or are just too far away to be able to connect.

Another thing could be is that you are still downloading but at a very slow rate that isn't registered by the client. I'm not sure how to help you other than to ask a friend for a little assistance. They may have an internet connection that will allow them to grab the pieces you need to complete your download.

having more RAM can slow down your system because there is more overhead involved in managing more RAM. But in general, it helps because more of memory of the running program can fit. Howver, since you state you have a Duron, it infers that you may have an older hard drive interface protocol. Which means getting a faster HD will not help in your case too much. Getting a faster HD will offset the RAM management overhead when you get more RAM.

In short, if money is not an issue, I'd recommend getting a new computer. But if you can get a new computer, then more RAM will help your programs in addition to turning off any program that is non-essential

you can try taking out one stick and check performance, but you are probably just better off leaving all 650MB of RAM and trying to reduce how many different programs are running at once.

dosbox is the way to go. I believe there is support for descent, as well. An alternative to use is bochs, but its setup is not very user friendly
