i think this is expected--i saw an earthquake special for my region last night (SF Bay Area) and it said back in the 1700's or 1800's having magnitude 7+ was common As a result, I'm curious about the earthquake history of the area and wonder whether all this activity has been long overdue...

Yeah, let's hope that the tectonic stress that is in the region has subdued...one good thing is no tsunami too--so, it must have been very deep in the ground

What are you afraid of? I'm not quite sure why exactly. One positive thing I see is you are a reservist, which means you will not see immediate action if you get in, right? Also, it'll take even more training before you are deployed... so, i guess, as long as your reasons for signing up in the first place were good, then i don't see anything to worry about...

it's the concepts that give C that stigma--VB lets you get away from certain concepts (or plays it down) while C you meet them head on; plus VB allows GUIs to be laid out much faster than in C which gives it a head start off the bat...

If you think about easier to read code (or maybe just reducing probability of bugs), it makes sense to have bool since you limit it's domain of values to be either "true" or "false". As a result, during compling you never run into the situation of giving a value that isn't "true" or "false" and possible create bugs that way by giving it some fuzzy value.

But, you have a point implementation-wise, it's a waste of bits

I also do find it funny that it took one firm about 10 years to realize their technology was "stolen." My question is how can montetary losses be repaid? I mean, suppose Sony did license the technology to begin with? I would think Sony would given them a lump sum far less than $90 million and that's it. In addition, it could also be the case the Sony developed the technology independently, which I think will be more of the case.

also, I wonder how Immersion Corp is doing--i think they are desperate...

Read in the paper today that there are two theories about the tsunami.

1) the plates slid past each other, means not much water displacement and thus no tsunami (the other earthquake was subduction and equals a LOT of displaced water)

2) a tsunami did occur, but it headed for Antartica

Reports say at least 1000 dead so it's bad but not as bad as earthquakes happening in areas where clay is the choice of material...

Disch: boolean is there to help type checking and to ensure more programs will run correctly as intended. it's true that you can do the same stuff with int but int has a whole lot of more uses than boolean--that flexibility you do not want, so a boolean is nice. So, it seems boolean is there more for enterprise programming and programming for yourself.

every time it gets fixed, it slips back again...it's off 5 minutes now--so, there is something up with the server clock... maybe a daemon needs to be run on the server so it's time could be compared with one of the authorities on time

That's probably it--it's very high level. After I posted, I realized that in the end, boolean in memory is no different than int in memory--since in the end, it's all the same to a CPU.

as for prevent tripping over their own code, it does seem useless to someone coding for his/her own self but it makes a big difference when you are coding in projects. It's almost impossible to know the entire code down to each character as well as one person be in control of everything. Thus, the restrictions that are in place provide a mechanism for consistency and ensure code runs to specification (which is big thing) since it is easier to translate logic to boolean than it is to int because how would you explain to a customer why you are using int to do logic... all of this is important in enterprise programming--something never considered in certain convention debates...

so yeah--use int if it floats your boat, no one is stopping you and people don't care unless you need to explain stuff to non-programming person

I can't think of any large company NOT doing what Microsoft did. Ethically, it's probably wrong but business operates differently than how we interact with each other. What Microsoft did was smart since there was practially no publicity over it and the other dealings. If you can give me one company that won't pay people off when something bad is going to happen, then you win...

Answer: It doesn't matter when designing a car, this isn't on the list of high priorities. Therefore, it could go either way--you just have to pick. Thus the purpose of this question is could you defend and/or justify why you made that decision (which in reality is a meaningless decision). Many people would answer this question via ergonomics and that's alright but you earn points with microsoft if you can talk a lot on this...

so...the person with the best answer is...Jagori, because it halfway to being out of the box like the answer.

Next Question: A train leaves LA for NY (Train F) at 15mph and a train leaves NY for LA (Train Q) at 10mph. Suppose there is only one set of railroad tracks between LA and NY, thus eventually, both trains will collide. Now, suppose a bird flies 15 mph route that matches the path of the railroad tracks and it leaves initially from LA. When it reaches Train Q, it immediately reverses direction it was flying and it files towards Train F. Once it meets Train F, it reverses direction until it sees Train Q, and reverses again and continues to do this until the trains collide. The question is, "How far as the bird travelled?"
