Now that I've been learning more about ROM hacking, I've decided to give Final Fantasy 1 another shot. I got a story and a few graphical changes as of right now, I just started it. Sorry for the large size of the first pic... I don't know what I was thinking.

PICS:

The new classes.

Some of the new Town Tileset. Since this I've made new bridges, but I still need to make new trees and roof tiles.

This is what it looks like when the archer casts "Arrow"

STORY:
In the ancient world of Utauria a great evil threatens the world. Four heroes from four different towns all leave thier homes to find adventure all at once. The Fighter is from Mars, a town a warriors and wannabes. The Healer is from Tranquility, a peaceful town that is home of the last descendants of the first humans on Utaria. The Specialist is from the advanced town of Scholoran, where all of Utauria's technilogical advances come from. The Archer's home is the Mysterious Forest. The Mysterious Forest is a mystical place where only it's inhabitants hold the key to enter the inner city. They all head towards the center of the Utaurian continent, and all meet for the first time at the center town of Civilus. Civilus was the first town that fell victim to the darkness, and most of the inhabitants are dead, though some Merchants are still alive and open for any heroes that may come to save them. While fighting to save Civilus the darkness spreads out to the hometowns of the heroes, and they have to travel to thier homes and put an end to the darkness and destroy whatever is causing it.

Okay, so I know that people ask this question like all the time, but I forgot the answer. Does anyone know how to make predetermined names and classes in Final Fantasy? I know it possible, I just don't remember where to do it.

Allright, I figured out how to make default names and parties, but is there a way to keep people from selecting other names or parties?

Hey! I'm working on a FF hack and I've set default classes and names, but I can't figure out how to prevent them from being changed. I know it's possible, but I have no clue how to do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks! I'll check out where that piece of data is in relation to the default classes data, and compare it with the name data.

**EDIT**
To prevent people from changing character names:

$39D65 - Change 85 to A9
$39D77 - Change 20 to 10
$39D78 - Change 02 to 10

Yeah, I'm still woking on my hack, and I wanted to show of some more screenies, but I can't bump my old thread because I was the last person to respond... so I'm opening up and official thread here for screenshots, story, info on the specs of the rom and other such fun things. If you're nice I might even let ya' see some of the chatacter sketches.

The New town stuffs

The characters, you can no longer choose classes or names

Some of the castle gfx, they are outdated though, I've changed more stuff.

The short version of the story

**EDIT**
Almost forgot the logo that I'm going to put in the instruction manual (I don't know what format it's going to be yet though)

Yeah, the tilesets are very limited, I ended up wasting most of them on the water and dirt paths.

Nope, it's still all the original game no expansion or anything, I'm going to try to take non-ASM hacking to a new level with this... or something... I dunno lol

Here's some story stuff:

The Civilius Peace Bracelet

The town of Civilius is housed in the center of all of Utaria's trade routes. When travelers would go to Civilius, a popular item to bring home was the Civilius Peace Bracelet. The bracelet was a sympol of peace all over the land of Utaria. When the four heroes all put the braclets on thier arms hope spread all over Utaria.

No demos as of yet, I'm going to work through the graphics and classes. Each class is going to have a "Skill" (Skill replaces Magic) so the spells are going to be very class specific.

Leif the Fighter's skill is going to be Stat Enhancement
Cid the Specialist's skill is going to be Enemy Crippling (Causing slow, confusion, and others)
Nena the Healer's skill is going to be... uhhh... healing
Rahn the Archer's skill is going to be arrows which cause damage

I forogt to say, I'm trying to sign someone else on for this hack for music. There's a document describing the format, but my problem is that I'm a drummer lol I don't know anything about REAL music, so I was hoping someone else would be interested in being part of this hack, and providing some original compositions for it.

I was bored so I was cruising around Super Mario Bros. hacks and I realized that there are sooo many japanese SMB rom hack sites that have all this information on how to hack the game. I'd love to know the information on these sites. I even downloaded a huge document on SMB's music data, but it's all in japanese. If anyone out there can translate Japanese IM me.
My Screen name is Stallyns Rule

**EDIT**
I'm starting to translate some of it myself, I'm working on the locations of the instruments for each song.

No you're not Xkeeper... though... you did make me miss my Win95 machine with good ol' DOS *sniff*

Anyhoo, I listento music and talk on AIM. I usually listen to old school hip-hop and overclocked remixes (not the techno ones though, the ones that are more like orchestras)

Actually this is a pretty sweet walkthrough for anyone that is into GFX design. I'm starting to use other console's GFX and modifying it for NES roms. (Modifying as in changing it to 4 colors and modifying it to be wat I want for my hack.) I just grabbed up a FF1 Wonderswan Sprite sheet and made different classes for my FF1 NES hack. I might actually use this so I have better quality GFX for town/dungeon tilesets using ALTTP tiles.

I have stated hacking FF1 again in an attempt to actually make progress on Final Fantasy: The Crescent of Civilius! I'm going to put up all of the screens I got right now (Starting with the oldest and ending with the newest.)

Town GFX

Castle GFX (I'm using a darker grey for the pallete now)

The opening story

The Arrow shop

I replaced the orbs with the crescent of Civilius (Also the letters in the new font aren't "broken" anymore)

The new character sprites, a new enemy, and a new battle background.

INFO:
The biggest change that I'm the most proud of is that the character names/classes are already picked out and you can not change them. This way I will be able to have more of a story involving the characters and thier home towns falling under the plague of darkness.

Check this site out, apparently all the levels in the SNES version of SMW are in the NES Pirate version. http://www.bripro.com/low/obscure/index.php?page=hko_smw

I've tried changing the hex values and it works. We should try to put a team together to try to complete the game, maybe even someone really good with ASM to try to make Bowser do something other then float around.
